Aside from the fact that two narcissists working together towards a common goal is an anathema, the 12th Amendment makes this a terrible idea. Florida's electors can vote for a Floridian for one of President or Vice President, but not both. This means that they'd essentially forfeit two dozen electoral votes in the VP race for no gain whatsoever. Trump will pick some lackey, and they'll be worse than Pence this time around.
please god let this happen. Wouldn't surprise me if he tries forming his own party to run either. If he stays with the gop, the damage him and desantis do to each other will be glorious to watch. not that the dems are looking much better though...
Man, that "this is just returning the issue to the states" talking point didn't even last long enough to be protected by its own anti-abortion legislation: https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/705
Doesn't the whole Supreme Court ruling make this invalid? Ie: they specifically said that it's up to the states to decide their abortion policy? Also, when does this get voted on? It could get a lot of lazy non-Republicans to get off their asses and vote.
No, the Supreme Court ruled that Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided, and therefore there is no constitutional right to an abortion. This means that the issue is subject to the normal legislative process, which is that either the state or the feds can legislate it (with the feds overruling the state should they conflict, due to the Supremacy Clause). Probably won't get voted on this session because the Democrats hold a majority in the House, but if they lose the majority in the midterms, expect it to be voted on pretty quickly in the new session.
Then maybe legislators should cut the theatrics of protesting in the street and actually legislate. If it’s so critically important, what’s the hold up? Even if it dies in committee, wouldn’t that at least be something? The Democrats have done the infrastructure bill, a half-assed gun control bill and basically nothing else. They don’t have much to hang their hat on heading into the midterms.
Cut the theatrics? Bruh, this is the world's greatest reality tv show now. The winners of seasons 48/49/50 determine the viability of the human race: does Jesus come back, or does climate change kill us all? Will the star of seaon 46 come back, amid all the scandal? Are they gonna just like trash the main guy in 47 and let someone new in, or will he do a sort of reboot? No reality tv show would be complete without some version of Florida man without logic, reason, empathy or intelligence. Dude is basically like "kids won't have to hear about gays or wear a mask against COVID while they're getting shot at...... What? Teachers? That's still a thing? I thought that was like chimney sweeps or some shit? We don't got those in Florida anymore." I can't wait to see them get to the "Hunger Games" part in season 48. Legislate is what they did when this was a radio show.
I dunno what's wrong with him, but the ratings have fucking tanked, so everyone is pissed. I think that might actually be the issue: he hasn't done anything, similar to the last guy, but he hasn't started any shit either. The last dude did nothing but talk shit (literally), and so you've got someone with the same work ethic but lack of controversy, so it feels like something's wrong?
That's kind of my point: it's not obvious. I don't know, because I don't see him. His tweets are not hotly discussed. His rallies don't look like a Wal-Mart puked on a set of Juggalos, they don't exist. He's not out there making a shit show of democracy, day after day, week after week, in full view of the public. He's doing it, apparently behind closed doors, or through negligence. Maybe my news cycle addiction has moved onto stronger stuff, but I am not seeing this dude as front and center as the last few folks to sit in that chair.
Ostensibly? From what I remember reading on that one specifically, the open-ended text was more to put everyone on record about it rather than expecting it’s passage. if that’s true, that’s just a garbage way to legislate.
Essentially zero with the filibuster in the Senate. To bring it to a vote would require 60 votes, even though it would only require 51 to pass. It's fucked up.
Electing Republicans to the Senate is a garbage way to legislate, but here we are. You said the Democrats should propose a bill, even if it was doomed from the start. I was pointing out that they have.
Hell, the House just passed it again a few hours ago for 2022: https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/8296
Ok, but what are you proposing? The bill passed the House, and there aren't enough Democrats to overcome a filibuster in the Senate. Are you proposing they threaten to kill Manchin's dog until he agrees to eliminate the filibuster? Violently overthrow the Constitution and eliminate the Senate altogether? What exactly should they be doing that they're not already doing?
