Tonight's hearing is riveting. Really something to hear our elite security professionals start to fear for their lives and making their peace with God as the mob moved in. But in all that, some levity:

I keep seeing how ridiculous and horrifying this stuff is, and I keep thinking about the people who believe Trump won the election. Specifically, how they aren't going to change their minds with facts, evidence, or well-established proof of events is what keeps me wondering: what is the fucking point here? I know no one has definitively asked in a coherent nationwide poll, and I'm concerned the statistic of "40% of Republicans believe Joe Biden is an illegitimate president" is either trolling, based on abysmal stats/polling techniques, or worse case scenario: precisely real.

One potential outcome of this is a lot of the "key" officials in the Trump administration get jammed up in a "loyalty or legality" pickle. They either testify honestly, and can't be trusted by Trump to cover for him, or they spurn the committee hearings and face charges, thus limiting them for the 2024 operation.

My personal opinion is the best case scenario is more or less where we are now: Trump is neutered, muted, and increasingly, a political non-factor. Ultimately Merick Garland will make history one way or another with the decision to prosecute or not. I can't pretend to believe that decision will be politically neutral, based on Trump's 2024 announcement.

I know the SC has thrown a lot of uncertainty over the mid-terms, and I think these hearings are poorly timed political theatre. I'd greatly prefer Congress to be doing their fucking jobs, and letting DOJ do theirs. I'd also prefer the political coverage to be unpacking the seemingly jaw-dropping "debates" on contraception, interracial marriage, gay marriage, etc.

As egregious as all of this is, the spectacle of it all seems to be pointless. I don't see this changing anyone's mind about Trump, or January 6th. I don't see this impacting mid-term elections. I don't see this helping untangle the monstrous cluster-fuck that is the abortion rights issue. I do see everyone ignoring the fact that this chaos only benefits a handful of people who seem to believe that their job is to usher in the era described in the book of "Revelations", which is truly frightening.

The entire room cracked up at what a hypocritical chickenshit that stunt-queen is. Finally, he’s the utter laughingstock he deserved to be all along.

Hard disagree. "Theater" was the GOP grilling Hillary for 11 hours over some Benghazi bullshit, or jumping on "but her emails!" but keeping mum when their own guy does exponentially worse.
This here, this is a statement of facts, an investigation into criminal words and deeds that really happened and put our entire system of government at risk. It is absolutely imperative that we air ALL this shit out, lay it out for the country to see. Americans are too fucking fickle, can't wait to "just get over it" and move on to the next outrage. I'd rather they *didn't* go on break until September, but I understand the need to hold something back until it's closer to midterms day, remind people of this near-catastrophe from not even 2 years ago.

As to DOJ doing their jobs, that'd be the secondary effect of the hearings; light a fire under Garland's ass so he starts prosecuting the guilty. It's not his job to be diplomatic, it's his job to be a fucking COP and start chasing perps.

That's kind of my point: it's theatre when one side does it but justice on the other? Nah, son, that's not going to work. That just continues back and forth, and it only benefits the people who are counting on destabilizing it.

Garland will make that call, Congress isn't doing shit that will result in a prosecution or an arrest. They aren't changing anyone's minds, unless I'm missing something. Fuck, Fox News isn't even covering it. It can be factual and still be theatre.

    Meanwhile, Congress:

Bannon is guilty of contempt and will face mandatory jail time for it. As much as dime people think this is a sideshow, there’s repercussions for the assholes involved who also think that way. Hawley should be in jail too. Plenty of them need to be.

He should have gone to jail 25 years ago for beating the shit out of his wife.

He should have been put in quarantine a long time ago just because there's no way whatever is happening to his face isn't contagious.

What IS that? Is it some sort of psoriasis that spawned from spent fuel rods?

He is quite possibly the most awful-looking man alive. He can’t even consume oxygen, he simply breathes in atomized mayonnaise.

He's going to end up looking like Pizza the Hutt from Spaceballs.

Sentencing in October...I wonder what'll happen between now and then. Bannon strikes me as the type who'd rat and he's got two whole months to think about it....

I think you substantially underestimate the volume of bitch in that man, that whole group and the 'patriots' who stormed the Capitol in general.

He'll snitch. It'll probably be in coordination with DJT to throw Mark Meadows under the bus, but....he'll snitch.

Also, I don't think white collar resort is what it used to be. He goes down for contempt of Congress, his ability to work in politics is legitimately hampered. Folks can get their balls sued off or be barred from certain activities by having him on their campaign.

You underestimate how much the Republican Party is essentially a criminal organization these days. They will not care for one second that he's a felon. He'll wear it as a badge of honor and fundraise off it. If Trump is reelected he'll be given a pardon and a job in the administration.

Has ANYTHING substantial happened to ANYONE in the Trump circle?

For real, @downndirty, have ANY of those crooked pieces of shit faced consequences for their actions?
Yeah, I know that Bannon and Stone got sent to country club prison. Boo hoo.
    They got released.

My take from all of this: I got sent to a shithole prison for speeding after I had too many beers.
These ass-fucks try to undermine US democracy (the whole Trump crew), and they're still walking around.

    Where is justice ?

EDIT: WHY ISN'T NANCY PELOSI'S HUSBAND SITTING IN A JAIL CELL RIGHT NOW?

    He got arrested for DWI.

While we're talking about that dried-up cunt, why isn't she rotting in a prison cell for insider-trading?

It’s so blatantly corrupt. Right before the initial reports of how bad COVID really was we’re released, a bunch of senators started dumping stock, both Rs and Ds. Expecting officials to pass a law banning themselves from unfairly getting rich is a tall order. It’s one of the few truly bipartisan issues that everyone should demand action on.

I keep wishing for an index fund that tracks the trades of the Senate. I'd never put money in anything else.

I wonder if the dude who made the flight tracker for the private jets of the rich and famous could make a tracker that shows the investments of members of Congress.

    Is that even possible?

There was a Pelosi-specific stock tracker that was summarily banned on Twitter (I think).

    Edit: Maybe not.

Interesting. It seems it’s more about just showing clips of her right now. And drawing attention to various dates when she bought stock.

But a real time “here’s what she owns and how it’s doing” would be interesting. I’m sure there’s some sort of privacy problem with it though.
