What's more impressive is that the Lee-Enfield only has a 10-round box magazine, meaning you have to use stripper clips (yes, actual 'clips') to reload and those stripper clips (called 'chargers' by the Brits) only hold 5 rounds. You get 10 shots before you have to reload the first time and then 5 shots before you have to reload after that. The Brit soldiers actually used to use their middle finger on the trigger so they could keep their thumb and forefinger on the bolt. As a proud Lee-Enfield SMLE owner and shooter, I can tell you 15 hits in a minute is no small feat. 38 hits in a minute is fucking unreal.
If there is any doubt that the people trying to pass these bills have no idea what they are talking about and are just lashing out on pure emotion one only needs to watch the Senate hearing on the new AWB. Diane Feinstein continually rambles on about thumb hole stocks being invented to circumvent the last AWB and somehow the pistol grip spraying from the hip makes a gun more high velocity. Also, they just did the worst mythbusters test Ive ever seen and showed a video of a .22 round fired from a hand gun and a hollow point .223 fired from an AR15 to show how "assault bullets (actual words used) explode in the body, which might be needed in war but serve no purpose in civilian life." The derp is strong in them.
She couldn't tell a thumbhole apart from a horse's ass. Listening to her makes my head hurt, which is on par with the people that actually believe in that sort of shit. We have to be steadfast about educating people (voters) on the real facts surrounding guns and the meaningless AWB.
The equivalent analogy isn't recording per se, it'd be something like intentionally tinting your windows to 64% when 65%+ was illegal, just to see if you could get cops to act like an asshole on camera.
Speaking of education as the best defense against the stupidity of our legislators, I found this on Facebook and it was really really informative. It's a great interactive "lesson" on the history of what "assault weapons" are, where that term originated, and what the original AWB was all about. It's the kind of thing you could direct others to and it's really simple and straight forward without any hype. I actually learned a few things myself. http://www.assaultweapon.info/
Ignorance runs rampant when it comes to passing bills and laws. These are politicians, not actual people with human-level consciences or morality. 95 % of them are simply soulless cash whores who do not actually give a fuck about anybody but themselves and how they look up on their soapbox. Impulse will always rule over logical rationale. And it won't get better, it will just get worse. Bank on it.
In light of the new AWB discussions, this seems dumb even for Joe Biden. (Not that he's trying to promote the ban or speak out against having an AR-15 - that's his right, of course.) That he would try and use a personal example like that to get his point across emphasizes how out of touch he really is. The rest of us that live in secluded areas don't have an around-the-clock Secret Service detail to cover us while we reload the double barrel like he an his wife do.
He should teach self-defense classes. Step 1: Put yourself in full view of your attacker. Step 2: Dispose of your ammunition by firing it in the air. Step 3: ? Step 4: Profit.
Greasy Joe's home security system consists of banana peels scattered around his sidewalk to trip up burglars and a pile of seed right next to the sign that reads "free bird seed" beneath a precariously hanging anvil to catch all of those pesky road runners. If they get through those two barriers, they get either the shotgun through the door or the shotgun blast in the air to send them running for the hills.
I'd still say a compact shotgun DOES make a better home defence weapon in many respects than a handgun, but Biden's clueless enough that he fails to get his point across. It's true enough that a double-barrel is basically the most idiot-proof firearm out there: Easy to aim, easy to load, easy to assemble/disassemble and clean, and jamming's virtually impossible. A compact pump is only slightly more complex, and unless you've loaded it with sabots (and let's face it, why would you), you've got a significantly greater chance of hitting what you shoot at, as well as a highly decreased likelihood of your round punching through what you don't want it punching through.
Field and Stream recently did an interview with Joe Biden and asked a lot of questions pertinent to this thread. http://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/ ... -interview Spoiler It doesn't help convince me he is grounded with reality. At all.
My favorite part of that interview is where he says you don't need that sort of weapon to protect yourself, while also harping on this fallacious idea that cops are being "out-gunned." The only thing I remember about the coverage of the Newtown shooting was how many cops were running around with M16s and M4s.
