Can't say I haven't looked forward to tonight for some time. I wonder when they'll drop that huge story twist when you find out Roose Bolton is really Keyser Soze.
Clegane sure knows how to pick a bar fight. Fuck me that was badass. As is Martell, he certainly is a more passionate character than usual, I think he's awesome so far. My favourite scene was between Sansa and the Fool, albeit is certainly was a sad scene, sold very well by the two actors. Is Shae ever not pissed off about something? Did she forget before Tyrion she was an army's fucktoy? It's getting tiresome watching her storm out of the room every. Single. Episode. Speaking of bitchiness, is somebody going to answer my prayers and drown Cersei in a puddle of diseased diarrhea? Lower the bar a little more, cunt. I see they have a different actor playing Handsome Dario Heartthrob now. Could the other dude not grow a beard or something? And the CGI of the dragons now is near movie-quality. The effects have improved in leaps and bounds since season 1.l Question: why was everything in The Vale on fire in the episode's final shot?
I haven't read the books but is always this pissed off? Or is it just for the show? What does she have to be so mad about?
Now, that was a kick ass season opener. It looks like we're going to be seeing a lot more from Oberyn this season than I expected. Of course this being Game of Thrones he's a frequenter of the brothels, which is an obvious excuse for the writers to squeeze more nudity into the show. The dragons looked great. Awhile back the creators said they couldn't increase the size of the dire wolves more than 50% without it getting insanely expensive, so as a book reader my natural reaction was 'How the fuck are they going to film the dragons as the seasons progress' but it's looking like that won't be an issue. Man, I can't say much more without wanting to jump into spoilers. They are laying the foundations perfectly and in a few episodes the powder kegs will start to blow. How brutal is Arya getting? The way she slid needle through that guy's throat and let him die drowning in his own blood was straight up sadistic. Crown - I think they were just showing the road from King's Landing (stretches through much of the realm) has been ravaged by war. It's not anything particularly significant.
The character is becoming quite divergent from the books, but come on guys, don't you remember the previous seasons? The way she was ready to die for Tyrion at the attack on King's landing, how upset she was when Tyrion married Sansa, all the promises he made when she came to court, the lengths Tyrion went to hide her because he was falling for her, etc etc etc. The show has been developing this since the first scene she was in. She's pissed because A. She can't have Tyrion to herself, and B. Now, that he's married she's basically become a concubine he has to hide indefinitely, which is the exact thing she was trying to avoid.
Great premiere episode... I don't remember the other seasons starting off with cold openings though, is this the first? Either way Im glad it wasnt too fragmented with jumping around to all characters in 1 hour. -I think the meeting between Sansa and Ser Dontos is more deliberate than just a random meeting. Maybe its an olive branch for him to have his house/honor back if the Starks ever rise again? Apparently all of House Hollard except for him was executed by the Mad King. Could be interested to see if his house and all of the other severely fractured/defeated houses form a secret alliance. -Hoping for more Jagen H'Ghar this season, what a bad ass character. I didnt read the books so I dont know how significant he is, but maybe Arya will be summon him at some point? -Oberyn Martell is cool as hell, and he has a slight touch of Inigo Montoya to his personality and looks. -Yeah noticed new Fabio/Daario as well. I guess the actor wanted more money or something and they replaced him. Good. He looked absolutely ridiculous and out of place. -Lots of great character dualities that are continuing on. Jaime/Cersei, Arya/Hound, Tyrion/Bron
That was precisely the point. Crazy hair, makeup, clothes, together with an assassin's skillset and the demeanor to drive Dany wild. New guy is just boring, should've stayed in the Treme. Speaking of David Simon: "Man's got to have a code".
Joffrey has to go. I don't know how much more bragging and sneering I can take from that little Girlie-boy. "I broke Stannis." From where, your panic room? Run into a knife already. Also great to see Bronn still has all the best lines. "I guess I killed all the right people!"
A couple things from a reader of the books since some of you asked. Daario is described in the books to look like this. On top of the fact people just thought the actor was flat out stiff and not in line with the character. This dude, who's most recent gig was on ABC's Nashville, is an upgrade, but still far away from what he's supposed to be. Everyone from Braavos is supposed to be colorful and crazy. Like Sallahdor Saan, (the guy with the boats that wanted kept talking about fucking the queen.) Spoiler Also, Shae wasn't Sansa's handmaiden for the longest time in the books. She was kept out in a house Tyrion had for her until he and Sansa gets married. But there is awhile when she is someone's maid after the Battle of the Blackwater before the marriage. So her anger and rage builds up. Also, she was a whore for the army, the soldiers weren't brutalizing their whores. They kept their whores pretty nicely, so its not like she had a bad life, so its not like Tyrion saved her for a terrible life of abuse.
The new Daario was great in Treme, but this character isn't all brooding and melancholy like that character was, so it should be interesting how he plays him. I kind of liked old Daario cause he looked like a member of Motley Crue stumbled onto the set. Anyone else thing Oberyn's lover was really attractive? Especially considering that mediocre prostitute they chose to fuck with. I've heard from everyone that has read the books that he is one of their favorite characters and I'm starting to see why. His way of speaking is measured and tinged with an interesting lilt. Love it. He reminds me of Floki from Vikings in a strange way. Can't wait to see him fuck and fight through the capital.
I thought the old Dario was a dead ringer for early Michael Bolton. And Martell's woman (Indira Varma) is nothing short of ravishing. Check out the movie Kama Sutra if you want to see a WHOLE lot of her. It's safe to say she's not a shy actress.
I'm confused by the brothel scene. I don't remember him being described as a "Ser Loras" type in the books. Did I miss something or is the show giving him a new twist?
Its a dusting detail on a character that is pretty meaningless in the bigger picture. I just don't remember it from the books at all. Which wiki did you cheat? The nerd/book version that looks like it was started on Angelfire or the newer updated TV version?
The ones with the character drawings that look like Magic: The Gathering cards. That site is cool because you can read about all the pre-history of the plot. Christ he could have wrote a prequel to Song Ice/Fire that could span at least a dozen books. Maybe somebody will.
The show was just renewed for two more seasons. No surprise. Usually shows only get renewed one season at a time so it shows you how huge it is. You can bet on a Star Trekkish cult to follow it when it concludes. I heard from both Producers and Martin say the show will "Probably be seven seasons long, possibly eight." They just spent two seasons on one book, and I hear the final two books are the longest. Soooooo.... How?
GRRM originally intended a several year gap after book 3. What if the producers just decide to skip most of books 4 & 5, which primarily take place during the same time, and finish the series after 6 or 7 seasons?
They have already said 7 seasons, 8 if they have some epiphany. The producers have an outline from George, of how everything ends. So if they keep up at this pace, they'll get to the same place, but probably take different routes there. Also books 4/5 happen at the same time with a TON of shit to chop out and and will actually probably be more interesting on TV than in the books. It just all lies in execution. So the next two books, will just translate into seasons. And yeah, they could have a sweet mini-series on the whole Mad King Aerys, the Battle at the Trident, etc. Who wouldn't watch that?
I think the sacking of King's Landing would count for some of the most unpleasant viewing in TV history. Yeesh. I was thinking year 1, when Aegon landed on what's now King's Landing with the dragons. I'd love to see the Field Of Fire and the Fall of Harrenhal.
