I'd say that this kind of attitude smacked of a certain insecurity, but, well, I know what your response would be.

In any case, everyone already hates where I'm from because the hockey team sucks and other half-assed reasons that vary from "they speak English!" to "they don't speak enough English!" depending on where you're from.

Well, Ballsack (not exactly the pinnacle of discourse here, I admit) would say nasty things about me being a coastal elite snob if I lived anywhere near a coast. More things have been written and said about the city/country divide outside of this thread and they pop up on TV and the internet and other corners from time to time. I can think of more than a few Canadians who are outraged that there are street signs in Toronto in languages other than English, as if they would have the slightest interest in walking through Chinatown if there weren't. There are people from small towns who think it's a-okay to make fun of people from big cities because there are more small towns than big cities in Canada (nevermind the percentage of people who live in those small towns). If you're not hearing any disparaging of city folk in national discourse, you're not listening to phrases like "the heartland" or "Real America" and so forth. Christopher Hitchens had a good riposte to this nonsense: the majority of Americans live in cities, and it's been the demographic trend for generations of people to move from small towns and rural areas to move to cities.

Then again, like I said, the unity of Canada pretty much depends on everyone hating where I'm from, so I hear it a lot.

 

I don't have many reasons to hate Toronto, with a large exception to the drivers there.

"Courtesy" does not exist on a Toronto road. It's no wonder it has the longest average work commute in North America. They are the pushiest, most ignorant drivers always on the offence and never letting you in. That aside, I like Toronto.

I hate all that "Heartland" Americana Chevy commercial bullshit. I've never figured out why movies and TV try to make it seem like rural areas look like Middle America in the 1940's. Anyone who uses those phrases is a fucking moron.

That is true, but a lot of them also come back after they've finished their education and have seen some of the world. The population is shrinking out here, simply because technology allows us to farm more land with less people, but there are still tons of opportunities to make money in rural areas. This shit isn't for everyone though, so quite a few of the kids born here end up staying in the city.

 

I seriously hate everyone and everything right now.

I was looking for dogs up for adoption around here yesterday and apparently my roommate changed his mind about dogs. No doggies in our house, he says. This makes me sad.

 

My colleague posted him on facebook, and I started girl squealing at The Husband, which led to The Husband texting my colleague and saying "The FUCk dude?" so now he's trying to convince The Husband that a dog would be good for me since I need something to protect me from crazy people (true statement).

Nope, absolutely nothing to do with race. There are far more white people on welfare and "disablility" than any minority group. I have a neighbor on SSI disability who has no problem maintaining 12 acres but somehow finds work too painful. I'm tired of supporting people like him. More people went on disability in 2012 than found jobs.
