It's beyond pathetic. I heard it described like this: Imagine the entire budget was a 100 foot tape on the ground. The part that they are arguing over and causing all this shit about represents about 1/3 of an inch of that 100 feet. And yet they're focusing everyone's attention on that 1/3" and making it seem like it's the be-all-end-all. They deserve to be shot. Every one of them. $0.02 (CDN)
I would be embarrassed if I was a member of Congress and this happened on my watch. I don't understand how they can wage a political battle that puts people's paychecks in jeopardy.
Looks like the shutdown has been postponed until May 1. I have to wonder how long they're just going to keep pushing it back. Will we not have a budget for 2011 along with 2010? Retards.
My Annual training got canceled on Friday but I wonder if they're going to call me back in on Tuesday or not.
Has anyone here used the post 9/11 GI bill yet? If you have or if you are knowledgeable in the process can you PM me? I have some questions.
Actually, could you post the Q&As out here? I would like some general info about it. edit: I've been reading up on it a little, especially at this link: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.gibill.va.gov/post-911/post-911-gi-bill-summary/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.gibill.va.gov/post-911/post- ... l-summary/</a> However, a lot of links on the page are dead.
-I see how they define what the maximum that it will pay out is. Let's say you go to a cheaper school. Do you receive the difference? Does tuition money go straight to the school? -Do you receive a housing/living allowance while attending school? -What is the cap? Money or time? I read 36 months somewhere. If so, is this including summers? For instance, if you attend school only in the fall and spring, is it still counting as 12 months or is it more like 8 months real time? -I read about this: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.gibill.va.gov/post-911/montgomery-gi-bill/active-duty.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.gibill.va.gov/post-911/montg ... -duty.html</a> Can anyone clarify exactly what this program does? If the post 9/11 GI Bill is time based, then how does this extra money buy-up program factor in? -What if you want to go to law school, med school, vet school, etc? Are these kinds of programs covered or is the Bill just for undergrad or tech schools? I guess that's all I can think of for now. Thanks in advance for the replies!
Tuition goes straight to the school. Yeah, you get E-5 BAH based on the area code of your school. They just changed this so you will only get a percentage of the total BAH if you're not a full-time student. It's 36 months. If you don't go to summer school those months won't be counted as part of your total. I'm not exactly sure how they figure the half months you have at the beginning and end of semester though, I'm pretty sure they just get added as days. That is for the Montgomery GI Bill, totally different than the post 9/11. You will get to choose which one you want to use based on whatever your eligibility is for both when you get it setup at your school. I'm not sure about this one, but as long as the school is VA certified and you're in some kind of degree program they should pay the same benefits.
The post 9-11 GI Bill is the fucking shit, it's seriously awesome if your VA department at the school doesn't suck balls. I just register and go to classes and everything is magically paid for with money appearing in my account every month.
I'm a pogue, so it doesn't matter at all to me, but I found this to be completely hilarious. The SMaj of the Marine Corps, Sergeant Major Kent, was giving a speech to a bunch of Marines about the standard Oorah BS. His speeches are entertaining if you empty your mind of all rational thought and just enjoy the propaganda. Anyway, after the speech was over, he opened the floor up to questions. Normally, Q&A time is just as boring as the speeches; questions are approved by the command waaay in advance, and those who simply stand up and ask a question get screamed at later on. A certain woman didn't get the memo. Question: When will there be female grunts? Answer: Hehehe, that shit ain't NEVER gonna happen. Cue standing ovation and catcalling from the grunts, massive butthurt from every female in the room. I thought it was hilarious simply because he didn't mince words at all. He's getting out in a few months, and his Giving A Fuck level is probably lower than mine. Terminal Sgt Major, I guess. Either way, good on him for trolling.
What is the maximum amount of days you can have a break in school and still receive BAH? (ie: do i have to take summer classes to keep the BAH flowing?)
You don't get BAH unless you're enrolled and taking classes. For example, my semester ends mid-May, so I'll get paid in June a partial amount of my normal BAH for the part of May I was enrolled.
I know a ton about this so feel free to ask. I was our unit (Guard) Education NCO for a while. I'll address what already hasn't been. For the unit the post-911 is AWESOME. -What is the cap? Money or time? I read 36 months somewhere. If so, is this including summers? For instance, if you attend school only in the fall and spring, is it still counting as 12 months or is it more like 8 months real time? The cap is currently time. It is 36 months per chapter, but 48 total. If you are eligible for 1607, 1606 and/or REAP and expect to attend any type of Uni for more than 36 months I would use 12 of it first. If you convert you are stuck at 36. As far as the end months goes, it used to be you could get a full month for partial months, it is just that it counted for your total benefits. I think it was a choice, I vaguely remember filling something out. But I got a letter this year saying that only your actual time in school counts, so don't get burned in January. The other thing to remember is that if you hit 36 months and GI bill can't make tuition (it caps at instate TA, think private schools), there is the Yellow Ribbon Program that will make the difference. If you participated in the 1607 buy-in they will reimburse you, i think its at the end. -What if you want to go to law school, med school, vet school, etc? Are these kinds of programs covered or is the Bill just for undergrad or tech schools? Its good for most accredited schools the only stipulation is that it is only good for your first type of degree, i.e. can't go back for another B.A., but can go for an M.A. when you have a B.A. I guess that's all I can think of for now. Thanks in advance for the replies![/quote]
I addressed this in another approach, but the VA sent me a letter this spring saying that they are prorating all payments based on the amount of the month spent in school starting in August of this year. So there is no more getting all of Dec/May.
Is anyone familiar with the safety/security around the Waza Khwa district of Afghanistan and Paktika province as a whole? It's been two years since I've been to Afghanistan and I must admit I haven't really been keeping up on the security situation in different regions. I'd rather hear first hand rather than reading bullshit articles from Stars & Stripes. Thanks.
Alright, I have a question on how to handle certain situations regarding people of my own rank. I'm a maintainer in the AF and I just arrived at my first duty station about 3 months ago. As such I realize that I'm going to be the one doing bitch work. I have no problem with that, it's the same thing at any job. The problem I have are other A1Cs trying to boss me around and pawn things off on me while I'm preoccupied with other tasks. For example last week at the end of the day I was tagging and putting away components when another A1C tells me to take out the trash. I informed him that it would be at least 15 minutes before I finished what I was doing and politely suggested he take it out himself. He simply told me to just do it when I was done. He and another A1C then proceed to dick off and not do anything for 10 minutes until they got called over to help out finish up some maintenance. Part of me wants to tell these guys to fuck themselves. While I'm not worried about impressing them, I don't want to start drama being new and all. With maintenance related tasks I'm all ears to what they have to say, but I find shit like that to be... well... retarded. It's not like it has been a single occurence, several of the other A1Cs do the same thing, sometimes while I'm in the middle of being trained on a mechanical task. How would you suggest dealing with this?
Let me see if I am getting this right? an E3 is telling another E3 what to do? Unless he outranks you by position, tell him to get fucked. That being said, since you're the FNG, some people have more influence above their paygrade, have been there longer, etc. Until you've figured out the workplace politics, you may want to keep doing what you're doing. Above and beyond both of those options, like someone once told me "do what your rank can handle".
Back to the GI bill questions. I want to take summer classes at a local school as a non-degree seeking student while I wait to be enrolled full time at a different school int the fall. Will the GI bill cover this? If so, will I still be eligible for BAH as a non-matriculated student?
