It's up to 20 million users already: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424053111904233404576460394032418286.html And here's a great explanation of why it's so much better than Facebook. Some of these arguments may have been presented previously in the thread. http://blog.mises.org/17814/more-on-whats-wrong-with-facebook-and-whats-right-with-g
I wanna be part of the TiB circle! I actually kind of like it. I don't have a whole lot of people on it yet, but am liking the idea of the circles, not that I necessarily have anything to hide but I know which of my FB friends are going to care about which of the things I post. I feel good not sharing my little meaningless tidbits with the people who won't care about them .
It's funny, I never even used my full real name on facebook. I repped you, but in case you dont' read it I can send you an invite.
I still have invites so anyone looking for one can just PM me. Also, I'm not a freak/stalker so your PM will get trashed immediately after sending the invite - promise.
Am I the only person here who doesn't have a reason for wanting Google+? I have relatives who are barely internet savvy enough to keep up with Facebook - the only reason I have the thing in the first place, mostly because the phone charges for calling overseas from South Africa are astronomical (S.A. has the most costly-to-use phone system in the world currently). Communicating with other people is a secondary concern. I have no reason to get Google+, so, unless Facebook disappears, I won't be getting it. In addition, I currently have a Blackberry 8520, which is not compatible with Google+, while Facebook is - I think this Google+ mobile service is targeted at those people with a higher disposable income, since you seem to have to have either an iPhone or a phone powered by Android to use it. Also, I'm lazy and not particularly social. I make about 4 visits to Facebook per week and spend more internet time reading soccer websites and this place.
A self-admitted lazy and un-social person with no interest in women doesn't want to be part of a social network? Shocking, I tell you.
Do we all know each other well enough to *gasp* share real email addresses? I'm game if anybody else is. Internet security be damned.
I'm on it but I don't know why. Whenever I log into it, I just read the same updates (or whatever they're called on G+) that my friends posted on FB.
I definitely think this sort of mindset is one of the reasons G+ is great. With Facebook I don't want to "friend" anyone I don't know. I hate Pages because it seems less like an interaction, but advertising drivel. Maybe G+ will become too populated for me reasonably find new interesting things through there, but for now I'm really enjoying it. People I'd suggest following: Randall Munroe: Author of xkcd. His post about privacy and gender was nearly instantly listened to by Google and they revised their privacy features. Tom Anderson: the Myspace guy. Smart guy that seems to simply enjoy new technology and has enough background to make it interesting. Jens Lumm: a photographer. I love G+'s image viewing and it makes good photographers easy to find.
How accurate would it be to say it's a combination of the ability to "follow" people that Twitter has, and the way Facebook enables conversations, while outdoing both in terms of privacy controls? I've finally got a chance to play around with it and, while I wasn't really too into it before, I do like what I see. Google has a knack of taking old territory and innovating so that it becomes fresh again.
