Sheesh. "The Fairview Caseyville Township Fire Protection District posted on Facebook that their ladder truck was cut off by a van tonight. The people in the car yelled, sorry, we are chasing Pokémon." It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
It sounds kinda fun and everything, but going out to a park for hours? In this heat? Forget that. It's hot as balls. I like to hop from one air conditioned place to another.
Wait, wait...two Marine vets playing Pokemon caught a man wanted for attempted murder and who was actively molesting children. So, it's not all bad. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/07/13/marines-playing-pokemon-go-catch-attempted-murder-suspect.html .
My son and my boyfriend play. That's what happens when you rob the cradle. Pokemon holds no appeal for me but I can't talk too much shit about obsessively playing a game. My crack is Words with Friends. It doesn't have me wandering across the city and I can sit in the AC while I dominate.
We took a walk around the neighborhood last night to go hunting. My husband didn't get it, but I was delighted when we came across a Pokemon. I get a walk in and get to act like a kid for a little bit. Harmless. Now I am not about to go into the Holocaust Museum to catch Pokemon like I've read some dumbasses have done.
I know that it's cool how it's getting the suicidies outside, but like it says above people are ignoring the very real reality in a very dangerous way. We already knew looking away for a second to text was dangerous, now people are putting lives at risk. Cutting off a fire truck? Dude. It's a cool technology. Very cool. And most people seem to be be having harmless fun. But people are already getting hurt and killed because of their own idiocy while playing this. People are paddling way the fuck out into Lake Huron to get them. Does anybody else smell an incoming of lawsuits from the families of idiots unless they establish some sort of borders or boundary for this app? Let's not forget that not long ago people had died from Planking. Never underestimate the lack of effort the human brain can produce.
Quite predictably the news feeds are full of stories already....one guy fell in pond, another crashed his car straight into a tree playing while he was driving. I've seen dozens of stories today. It's just a matter of time before someone dies. People are already so engrossed with their phones they can't go even a few minutes without looking at them....just check out the other drivers when you're stopped at a light sometime, over half of them will have their phone in their hand.
I like how everything was fine when you were texting while driving, but now it's the end of the world when they are playing pokemon.
The biggest thing for me here is how is this bad for the Museum? I just looked; it requires tickets or passes to get inside. Unless people were just outside and it was a Pokéstop, I don't see anything to get salty about on their end of things. Like no one texted or picked up their phone in the Holocaust museum?
I'm not saying it isn't in poor taste. I'm just saying comparison-wise, it makes no sense. You are walking through literally one of the worst events of the 20th Century recorded for humankind to remember and learn from, and you could pick up your phone and loudly tell your aunt Caroline "How the fuck are ya?!" or just text inane things to your significant other.
I never got into pokemon because where I went to school kids got the crap beat out of them for playing that game. Since I didn't wanna get my ass kicked and called names like *gasp* "gay" and "fag," I decided that it was against my best interests to know too much about it and instead pick on those who did. Joined the crowd for no reason other than to blend in and not be noticed. It amazes me how far we've come as a society with some of that crap, and yet how far we still have to go in other areas.
My friend and fellow Pokémon Trainers in Spokane. This is amazing to me. Just all these people coming together.
I work in mobile gaming, so obviously this game has been a big deal around the office. I am honestly saddened to say, the game itself is shit. It's living on the back of it's incredibly powerful IP and the geo-location mechanic (which honestly is an idea everyone on the internet has had for years), but that momentum won't carry them much longer. They totally abandoned the regular pokemon mechanic of how pokemon are caught, leveled up and utilized in favor of some generic midcore mobile bullshit, their servers can't handle a fraction of the load their getting, and the UI design is downright garish.
Honestly, I'd short that stock if you can. There is zero chance this game is worth the 7.5 billion the company's market cap jumped. All of Supercell is barely worth that.
Or you just make the county courthouse a hot spot and let them come to you: http://wreg.com/2016/07/14/sex-offender-caught-playing-pokemon-go-with-boy-outside-courthouse/
