Re: Great Moments in RMMB History I just managed to find this quote from More Cowbell's signature in a cached page--can anyone find the thread where this meltdown occurred (something about how the internet had changed things)? I remember a hilarious rant about rotary telephones and ketchup:
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History I might not be recalling this correctly, but I thought that one had a bunch of replies from Tucker on the order of "let me get back to you," then the thread disappeared. Not that I ever expected anything different.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History Dude, there were so many horrific posts in those threads. The good ones were few and far between. Why does everyone have such a hardon for those threads? Edit: I see we have them here too. They are off to a good start. Carry on.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History Did the Opie and Anthony incident ever get explained and why none of the mods stepped up but instead banned people for questioning it?
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History Yeah, that was weird. At first I thought that he was being awesome for putting himself out in the spotlight like that, but it kinda fizzled out. To be fair to Tucker, everyone seemed to want to know about BC Woods rather than anything important, so both sides sucked.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History ^ Mainly, because it was Tucker's board. The dude couldn't explain it. He got butchered on O&A .. and instead of fessing up and admitting to having made shit up, he pretended that it never happened. His strategy was denial of facts. It's not like you need a PhD to figure it out. Since it was Tucker's board he made the rules. He didn't want to be called out and embarrassed .. his whole shtick was built on "100% true stories, trust me". And anyway, being exposed as a liar isn't very cool when you say you're all about calling out poseurs and fakers .. Why do you ask questions that you know the answers to? It's silly. Everyone on the board knew Tucker's stories weren't all true .. come on .. no one just said it. I liked the RMMB because of the silent tension ... it was hilarious. I liked the idiot board humor too .. but the denial of facts and the quasi-gestapo -style moderation and forbidden subjects thing made it almost erotic. The culmination of the IHTSHB -orgasm followed by the snuffing of RMMB .. it was like killing a hooker after blowing your load in its ass. Awesome.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History Overall, I felt like the best part of the RMMB was that it always attracted a group of well-adjusted and sane individuals.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History The really funny/scary thing is that a large number of members would 100% agree with you on that point, and mod that post "+1 insightful"
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History Funny. I read the book, enjoyed it, came to the TM site and was banned very early on several years back (4+, I think). I think I got in less than 5 posts. And I remember the topic because it happened so quickly and I thought the response by the mod was so bizarre. Paraphrasing, Tucker had suggested that he might be willing to marry or have a long-term girlfriend if he could screw around. But he acknowledged that he'd have a problem with her screwing around. I called BS on this and basically said that only a hypocrite with enormous insecurities would have a problem with his wife or girlfriend fucking other dudes, while he was out screwing other women. I guess the shoe fit because there was no reply, my posts were deleted and I was banned within the hour. Discussion over. So, I figured out how things worked pretty quickly. I didn't return until a couple of months ago when I heard the movie was coming out but I didn't re-join the site, I just read some of the posts. One thing that I find interesting about Tucker is that when he's posting on his own he can be self-deprecating and offer up some less-than-flattering self appraisals. In this setting, he appears to be very comfortable with himself, warts and all. But when he's responding to folks he disagrees with (on a message board, for example), he tends to be overly caustic and defensive (in my opinion). He often comes off as insecure and bitter. But such are the contradictions of earthlings, I suppose.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History It seems to me that we may have encountered the new Moderators first real test. It Looks like there are two fairly distinct types of posters on this thread ( and quite probably the board ) One group wants to reminisce about the great moments on the TMMB. The other group, suddenly free from the threat of overzealous moderation wants to talk frankly about the old board. Interesting to see how this plays out.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History And then there are the other 95% of members who want a place to share funny stories, talk about TV shows and movies, see boobies and generally dick around when they should be being productive and helping us get out of the recession. Guess which group we're going to gear this place towards?
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History Yes, that's more or less what happened. Although to Tucker's credit he did answer many of the questions asked and created the FAQ and put it on his website. He sort of explained the O&A situation but it mostly turned into him comparing them to Howard Stern and calling them pussies.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History [/quote] But if you saw the video (Was on Youtube, don't know if it still is) they were pussies about it. They never said anything directly while he was there and waited till he left to rip his book up and then say it was made up.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History ^^ The basket cases who want to bask in message board drama of the past? But you have to admit, that the whole Tucker-thing is worth a laugh or two. If the shit persists for more than a few days, then you should bring out the ban-stick and start pruning out those people who are way too emotionally invested in shit that doesn't matter.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History Actually, I don't see this as a test. What I see, for the most part, is rational, reasonable conversation that is still somewhat on-topic. It could even be interpreted as a kind of an implied anti-focus. While it may be unfunny, and not that entertaining, and a wee bit whiny and bitchy, it's acceptable and tolerable. What I (thankfully) don't see are fervent idiots coming in here frothing at the mouth blindly raging at Tucker like some religious zealot holding a "god hates fags" sign on the side of the road. So carry on.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History Well I'd argue that your percentages are off, but giving them the benefit of the doubt for a moment, I'd suggest who you gear this place towards doesn't matter, what matters is what you're going to do about that 5%.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History I don't care enough to do the searching, but if anyone wants to, the thread topic was things that were different in the pre-Internet era, and the poster in question was named either AChap or AndrewChap or something along those lines. Timesline was between 3 months to a year ago.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History What we do with all pests... shoo them away until they really piss us off and then squash them. And by "us", I'm referring to the vast majority of the users on the board. Now, we're on a new board, and there's a bit of a feeling out process going on with the moderation style, and some exploratory discussions on this stuff that doesn't really have a dedicated thread, but I really hope/suggest people get back on topic here soon.
Re: Great Moments in RMMB History Balloon + Sterno + tire iron + a single sunflower seed If you can figure out how that's going to work, you may just survive the Balloonocaust.
