...and I just picked up a Tarsus Judge Magnum in stainless with the fiber optic sight. With tax it was around $550. Now I need to find ammo for it. At least I now have a hand cannon.
I moved beyond that a few guns back. I was able to find a decent deal on some .45 Long Colt (.73 a round), but finding anything that isn't bird shot in .410 seems to be problematic. Even having the Judge Magnum which will take 3" shells hasn't eased the difficulty.
Oh. Is this a competition? Because I have a collection of about 30 lever action rifles alone that I inherited from my dad and grandfather. Never mind shotguns and other rifles. 3 gun safes full. I just haven’t bought a rifle since I was 16, or a handgun in 10 years... just keep updating optics. I have to make a point of dusting them off this winter and do some shooting, but some of the ammo is getting hard to find any more.
I don’t know shit about guns but a handgun that fires shotgun shells seems like a pretty good home defense weapon.
It can be tough to find anything other than birdshot in .410 rounds. Also, muzzle velocities for 000 buck out of such a short barrel can leave a lot to be desired. This is a hand cannon: S&W 329
I was able to pick up a few rounds of 3" #6, but yeah watching videos it's not exactly accurate with .410 loads, even slugs. I just like a good kick and I'm sure it'll have that even with .45 LC, which is much more accurate then the .410 loads. I was thinking this would be the end of my little gun buying spree, but then I discovered that Taurus also makes a Raging Judge model which added .454 Casull to it's repertoire. Now I want one. This is a hand cannon:
I think if I were to go hand cannon, woods gun route I’d get a 10 mm. Both glock and sig make some awesome 10 mm semis. I’ve stuck to NATO rounds with everything I own, but I’d make an exception for something like a P220 or a G40
Ooops. I just ordered another 150 rounds of .45 LC, that was labelled as "Cowboy Action." It was cheap enough at .74 a round instead of the usual $1.40 a round that seems to be the going rate. From the reviews, apparently "Cowboy Action" means it throws smoke. A lot of it. EDIT: Never mind. I had a horrible impression from reviews that it was like shooting black powder, apparently it isn't. I can live with this: Is it just me or does the dude's aim get worse with every shot? Or maybe he was trying to hit the dirt instead of the target?
I did the paperwork on my Micro 9 and Judge yesterday and got to see them side by side first hand. Oh dear... The Kimber is almost comically small and The Judge is an enormous "Fuck You" meme gun. The difference between the two is hilarious. If I feel ambitious tomorrow I'll drive across town to get them and post a picture of the two together.
Here they are: While I was picking them up they got a shipment of Federal 9mm in, talk about a feeding frenzy. I bought my limit of 250 rounds...with tax $77. That's so much better.
This picture really put's the Kimber Micro 9's size into perspective; This is it with a Glock 23, a Beretta APX, and the Judge. That is a tiny 9mm.
Boy I really really should have taken advantage of Wal marts fire sales last year on ammo. Shooting is going to be a family budget decision for a while I suspect.
No shit, and it's only going to get worse. Our new president has some interesting ideas to combat gun violence, mainly punishing law abiding owners. But I digress... I just bought 120 rounds for my Judge (60 Hornady Critical Defense .410 loads, and 60 Sig V Crown .45 LC)....total was just over $160. Ouch. The Sig rounds are jacketed hollow points and the Critical Defense rounds were develop specifically for The Judge and Governor. Either will completely fuck up someone's day.
Any bullet will kill. That is what they were designed for. Just by a full metal jacket round for both target shooting and your defense round. All a hollow point does is hopefully not exit the victim's body and hit someone else. That is all they were designed to do. I am just glad that right now I have sufficient rounds to not need to buy any target rounds for a year or so. Once 9mm drops to 25 cents a round or 45acp is below 50 cents a round, I will start buying again. There is not going to be any Federal gun legislation. Any talk is designed to spur panic buying.
I got an IWB holster for my Micro 9. I'm not so sure about it. In jeans and a t-shirt it doesn't imprint at all, but by the time I pull it out and rack the slide I'd probably be shot/stabbed/raped. I mean I could have a round chambered and the hammer cocked while carrying, but the only place the holster fits is at 1 o'clock and I don't want that thing pointed directly at my pecker. I'm thinking I may go with an OWB and bigger t-shirts. I also got a holster for the Judge, obviously OWB. It even has straps to tie the bottom of the holster to my leg, I'm not sure that's really necessary, but oh well...its more for carrying when I'm stomping around out in the desert or in the woods.
Reason #1 why I will never carry a single action handgun. Also, the tang on the micro 9 is more likely to hook clothing material when drawn in a hurry. Also why I prefer a bobbed or concealed hammer
