I hit a point that anymore if I look at a new firearm, I assume I'll double the cost of the weapon for additional magazines, sights, holster, sling, etc. In addition to PMAG, I've been happy with Mec-Gar.
I just received 5 more 30 round AR mags, I figured buy 'em now just in case Biden's proposed $200 tax for high capacity mags somehow goes through. I finally got to go shooting with the new roomie today. I brought my Judge, Kimber 9mm and VR80. Damn is the Judge a blast to shoot, it actually had a bit more kick than I expected, which is always a good thing. In fact I got bit on the thumb by the hammer from the recoil. The little Kimber shot effortlessly outside of one FTE, but that's kind of to be expected with a new gun. And then I brought out the VR80 and went to load it. I immediately started WTF?ing when I placed the first shell in the mag. It didn't fit. I was sure it could hold 2 3/4" or 3" and what I was holding was not fitting. I looked at the box...3 1/2". Son. Of. A. Bitch. I was so caught up in the FPS when I bought them I failed to notice the shell length. Overall a fun day, even if we had to cut it a bit short because other folks' ricochets were coming a little to close for comfort. At least I now know where I can go shooting within 30 miles.
Picked up the AR today and was chatting with the guy behind the counter at Sportsman's Warehouse. I mentioned ammo horders and he said that last week when their ammo shipment came in there were 75 people lined up outside the door. Cleaned them out of everything within half an hour, even with limits on purchases. I don't think we'll be getting back to normal any time soon.
Pretty sure the only similarity is the ammo they use. That damn Kel Tec would be like an $80 mag dump, but it still looks amusing.
Looks like it is the 5.7 round. Semi p90 design. It looks like some low rent novelty gun like the Kel Tec ksg shotgun.
I got to put a few rounds through the AR today. I like it. Doing a mag dump was fun until I realized those few seconds of joy cost me $25. I think I'll save the mag dumps for the 10//22, at least for the near future.
Yeah, for practice with the AR during times like this, I load mags with only 3 rounds. 3 quick shots, fast mag change, 3 quick shots. Work on muscle memory and target acquisition, not simply putting holes in the middle.
The ammo situation is somehow getting worse. Ammoseek has 3 listings for .30-06, the cheapest being $2 per round. .410 is non existent. 5.56 is basically $1 a round, ,45 LC is $2.25 a round, and worst of all...the cheapest .22LR is .30 a round. I had to restock the 5.56 I shot off and I wasn't pleased. I may look into getting an AR Airsoft or pellet gun just for practice. I'm also seriously considering an AK if I can find a Zastava at a decent price. I would prefer wood furniture, but at this point it's not that important. What is important is that 7.62 is available at .49 per round, even if it is steel case. My ambitions for a Raging Judge have also been dashed by the fact that they're going for $1600+ on Gun Broker. I am not paying that.
if you want your jaw to drop take a look at reloading supplies. I don't reload -- don't shoot enough to, nor do I care to do it as a hobby -- but my relatives who do are freaking out about the costs of primers.
Yeah, I've talked to quite a few reloaders and they're all tearing their hair out. I went on ammoseek a little while ago and some company had 1000 rds of Federal .40 S&W for $149.00. It had been up 55 seconds, I clicked the link and....sold out. I didn't really need it, but damn it would've been nice to pay normal price.
If you don't have ammo, I'd say you're SOL for a while. This is the LOWEST prices available on ammoseek right now for #8 birdshot in 12ga: (And this is searching all shell sizes, 3 1/2" is about all that's available)
I was looking to possibly get a new rifle. I’ve wanted a mini14 for a long time but I’d also be happy with an AR again. Too bad everything is nearly gone and mini14’s are priced through the roof right now. With ammo essentially unavailable, what’s the point? Why the sudden run on gun stuff?
You're kidding, right? Pandemic, disrupted food supply chain, riots, racial divide, most contentious presidential election of our history, buffalo man storming the capital... any of that ringin a bell?
