Not sure if they do or not, but I just got them to do a custom reticle (crosshair) setup. (I wouldn't consider that to be a custom scope). They have some scopes that come with mildot reticles, which is what I was really comfortable shooting with. Looks like this: That VX-7L scope only had these options: I called them up and asked them if they could do one with a mildot reticle for me, and they said sure. Cost a couple hundred bucks extra, and took a few weeks, but they did it.
I'd pick something inbetween the .30/06 and .22 mag and that is probably a .243 if you're sticking to deer hunting. Maybe you would like an illuminated reticle, but definitely something better than the NcStar. I'm not too knowledgeable on which illuminated scopes are better than others, but I know the reticles pop right up and get you on target fast. Custom shop? Behold: https://customshop.leupold.com/custom_shop.php
I tell you, it's hard to beat this scope for a deer rifle: http://www.shopbushnell.com/detail/BSN+713959I It's a 50mm 3-9 with illuminated reticle. For under $200 I've had nothing but great experiences with them.
Not necessarily. They make some inexpensive scopes that are pretty simple, but they also make some very nice ones. The Elite 6500 line has a 6.5x zoom ratio, which means they have a 4.5-30x scope, which is ridiculous. One of the scopes on a farm gun my cousins have (and I have shot a ton with) is an older Bushnell 3-9x and it has withstood a lot of abuse and holds its zero like a vise.
Hey guys, I was hoping I could get some recommendations. Ive grown up with guns as my dads always had a bunch and has taken me shooting countless times, so I definitely know how to handle one. Now that Ive finally gotten my pistol permit, I want to get my own. I have about $1200 to spend on one and was wondering what others have gotten for their first pistol?
Are you looking for something to carry or just keep around the house? Edit: Are you more comfortable with revolvers or automatics?
A good .38 snub nose will do the job every time. Since you're probably thinking more rambo than practical you can go with an automatic. 1200 bucks is an awful lot to spend on a gun. I d say buy yourself a good Sig and spend the rest on bullets to practice with. Little more pricey, Ive shot and used my brothers HK USP .40 compact, and would use it as my concealed carry gun if I got one.
I've got a Bushnell Trophy XLT that I use on a 12 ga. shotgun for hunting deer. It's got great glass, holds zero despite the hard recoil, and only cost me about $130 (through a deal on Optics Planet). I'll also second (third?) that Bushnell is an awesome company to work with. The original scope I bought had some minor chromatic abberation, so I called to return it. The person I dealt with gave me her direct email and extension if I had any problems. I told them I'd need it rushed, if possible, since I was going on a hunting trip and would pay for the extra shipping. She shipped it to me at no charge and sent the new one out to me before they even received the one I had sent back so I'd have it in time. I'd go with Kubla's advice. Caliber choice aside, unless you want a serious 1911, an HK, [insert expensive custom gun], I'd put half of that into a decent gun (Sig, FN, CZ, et al.) and put the other half into ammo, range fees, and maybe a class if there's one around you. On a completely unrelated note, I got out to the range this weekend and dialed in my Marlin 25MN again. Here's how it shoots @50 yds. The two fliers to the left were from me still bringing it in. The 14 shots in the middle were from the next two reloads. The shots pulled to 1 and 2 o'clock were all me--the gun is capable of making one ragged hole. Gotta pull the trigger apart and do some work on it. Also got to shoot an AR for the first time. My buddy has a nice RRA with a free floated HBAR, so it's pretty accurate. With some 5.56 reloads and iron sights, I was able to routinely hit a 1.5" circle @ 50 yds. without problems.
I'm not going to be vauge and open-ended with this. Buy a Glock 19 (or Glock 23) for around $500 and spend the rest of the money on a decent pistol class (like Pat Rogers, Paul Howe, Magpull or Larry Vickers). Why Glock? Because it's simple, reliable, and you can't fuck it up. For $700 you should be able to purchase the gun, four to five extra mags, a decent holster and eye/ear-pro. Why take a class? Because there is no point in owning a Ferrari (or in this case, a nice 1911) if you haven't learned how to use it correctly. Edit: I'm trying to purchase an AR in the next couple of months (budget around $1200). Any suggestions on a good upper/lower? I have been looking at LMT, KAC, and Bravo Company, but I know there are other good shops out there. Also, does anyone know if I apply for a tax stamp on a lower for an SBR set up if I can still keep a 16" upper on it while I wait for the tax stamp to come back?
What about a nice 1911 and a .22 conversion kit? I'm thinking that is the route I will take once I buy a pistol.
My whole point is spend less money on the actual gun and put the cash where it matters: quality instruction.
Get a .22lr handgun. The .22 is the greatest bullet ever invented. It's cheap to shoot, has zero recoil, is chambered in hundreds of handguns and rifles, normal sized high cap mags, and will scare away, or even kill anything threatening you. Plus it doesn't hurt that almost all those factors make it fun. Ask any gun owner, and 90% of them will tell you they use or shoot a .22 more often than any other caliber. 9% are lying, and the last 1% are law enforcement and military.
Oh my god. I can build one of those in less than 2 hours. I even have 2 cheap crap machete's around my house. Thanks for posting this, I'll see you all in the emergency room.
