In gun porn, OLDER is always better. A pair of factory-engraved Colt Dragoon 3rd model percussion revolvers, .44 Cal. Spoiler
Those are super cool for a varmint/plinking gun. They are a bit bulky for other stuff, but I run one on my toy gun. That said, I got rid of my gangster grip on my work gun because it just got to be a pain in the ass, and was only really good for being able to use the rifle's light when I'm firing my pistol (which sucks, but makes the most sense).
I'm taking a pre-war single shot 12 gauge apart tonight. Lots of rust inside and there is no bluing left- it's all brown. It belongs to a family friend of my girlfriend's grandpa, so I cannot fuck it up. However, after I get it in working function it'll get exhibition grade walnut with a finish appropriate for the era to match the well used looking metal. I'll copy the factory design but will sharpen it up a bit. The stock will be worth way more than the actual gun at market value, but it'll stay in that family so it's priceless.
I just got back from some indoor shooting to test my benchrest rifles and about lost it at the range. Spoiler Mother. Fucker. The first four followed orders, but the 5th fell out of line. This was shot at 50 yards with the Marlin I've cobbled together over time... it gets personal when you build a rifle up from scratch. *I aim an inch or so away from what I'm aiming at so I don't punch out the target dot itself and try and aim at air.
Just saw the Mythbusters episode for this. AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS LEGIT. They recreated a spinning bullet.
What the hell? I want to see this. I got the shotgun blank laid out... think this works? The grain is the opposite of optimal for strength but I believe putting long pins in is a viable option.
It's starting to look like a gun. I still have to shape the lower handguard and make the two pieces tight together and cut vents, but for now it's perfectly usable and versatile. The wood screws will be replaced by 8x32 screws that will be mounted into 1/2"x3/8" threaded spacers epoxied into the wood. I think that will be more than strong enough.
That guy from FPSRussia was talking about these and I'll be damned if they aren't pretty cool: http://zombieindustries.com/
Can no one just enjoy seeing how tight they can make their shot groups anymore? I saw Zombie paper targets today stopping by the local gun store. Didn't have any sort of bullseye or crosshair marks. Just vivid blood and guts with cheesy zombie themed characters. Meh. Ill stick to the watermelons when my friends want something to blow up.
Want bloody reactive targets? Go hunting. They look cool and I'm sure they'd be fun but there's way better ways to spend $90 if you're looking to shoot shit. $90 = an old ass .22 or shotgun, a pile of ammunition (or one box of .338 lapua mag), range fees, licenses for a season, camo & calls, etc. I'd still enjoy taking one of the new Kel-Tec 15-round shotguns to one if the offer was on the table...
An (unconfirmed) world record small group was just recently shot- 100 yards, 5 rounds, .022". Less than half of the old .049" record. The guy was shooting a hot-rodded 6mm PPC. http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/201 ... sa-record/ I can't imagine how he could control his trigger finger after seeing four bullets jump through the same hole. Kills me every time.
Correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression that the world record for a 5 shot group at 100 yards was a .009" by Gale McMillan with a .222 Rem? Could be mistaken I forget where I read that, regardless .022" is insane.
