I'd recommend putting these on anything with empty rails: They're low profile, easy on the hands and keep your rails from getting banged up. I use them on my AR and they work very well.
I was thinking about getting some as soon as I picked up the rifle with the finished rails bolted on and thought "Hmmm those sharp edges could get old in a hurry." Thanks for the suggestion. This also gives me an opportunity to shop for Cheaper than Dirt's excellent selection of machetes and tactical bags. Awesome.
I've been working on finishing some up some stocks I almost had done a year ago. While testing one I discovered an error that needed to be fixed in all four and class and work held me back from getting them done. Well, this is what happens when I am inbetween jobs. Some more finishing work and a fresh bedding job in each and they'll be done. Not in the photo are swivel studs and grip caps.
There's a 1" dowel running through the inletting. I'm gonna figure out how to suspend them with fishing line and just mess with you from now on.
Are you sure you didn't photoshop the dowel in there? Spoiler I thought that was the railing on the deck. It still looks like they're hovering, though.
Interesting thread on removing a dent out of a shotgun. I'd never seen it done before, thought some others might be interested. <a class="postlink" href="http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/622923-shotgun-barrel-dent-removal.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topi ... moval.html</a> Uses something called a "tightenable anvil" that basically pushed out from inside the barrel. Finished (pre-re-blueing) More pics of the other steps in the thread.
The Secret History of Guns By Adam Winkler This was an interesting read about the history of gun control in the United States. For example I didn't know that in the '60's California's gun control laws were in direct response to the Black Panthers (who thought it was a good idea to march into the state capitol armed to the teeth in the opposition to the law) or that the Founding Fathers passed a federal law mandating individuals own guns for a citizen militia. *edit I feel like I need to add that the author doesn't take a position, but merely points out interesting ironies and contradictions on both sides of the debate.
One project ends and another begins. An after/before photo of the AK and the sun hitting the block of wood that will become a new stock for an ancient J. Stevens 12 gauge. I'm going old school again (and I like diversity).
I'm looking for some insight into the more subtle differences between 9x19 and 9x21 types of 9mm ammo. I understand that the case for the 21 is 2mm longer, meaning more charge, bigger explosion, etc? I guess I want to know what guns the 21 is designed for, and how to tell if an existing model can withstand what I assume to be added pressures. I just got a Luger 9mm, and my sister gave me a box of 9x21 an ex bf left behind. For now I'm not touching it, but can I?
While the overall cartridge length is similar, the two ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE. The 9x21 case is 2mm longer, but the bullet is more deeply set into the case than with 9x19. Do not put 9x21 in a 9x19/9mm Luger/9mm Parabellum. 9mm Parabellum is very common and not that expensive, so pick some up at a gun shop or show, and maybe you can trade the box of 9x21 in as part of the deal. The 9x21 was designed by IMI for countries where military service cartridges are banned from civilian use. It is designed to exactly duplicate the ballistics of 9x19 Parabellum; it is not more powerful. What's the story on your Luger?
I'm assuming that wildly shooting from the hip with a Barrett .50 cal is how Brock Lesnar always hunts Prarie Dogs. Dunno why, but the YouTube tags aren't working. Here's the link: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=E5SjD-KcSkE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 5SjD-KcSkE</a>
Nothing like chopping on Jimmy Johns and beef jerky after major stomach surgery. It's fucking nuts how the Barret looks normal sized in his fucking hands. Genetic freaks all of em'. Did make me want to go out ground hog hunting though.
It's just nitpicking, but those are prairie dogs, not ground hogs. One of them lives on the prairies, has a complex social structure, and absolutely ravages farmland. The other predicts the weather for the next 6 weeks.
Thankfully you blow up them up with a fast hollowpoint too. Prairie dog shooting has always looked like fun... definitely on my bucket list.
Does anyone here have experience with the Smith & Wesson M&P series? Specifically the compact 9mm model. I'm trying to decide on my first handgun that will eventually be used as a concealed carry. I've narrowed it down to the 9c and a Glock 26 and I've handled both in various stores. The Glocks, even the gen 4's with the reduced grip, feel like a piece of chunky plastic to me. I was pretty turned off to the 26 immediately because my pinky finger sits below the grip and rests in the gap between the grip and the magazine. I can't imagine that being comfortable for an extended period of time and have heard of lots of problems with pinching caused by Glock's bad ergonomics. I've shot 19's and 17's and was never impressed by how they feel in my hands. The 9c felt much better in my smaller than average hands. I can get 3 fingers on the grip because it's about 1/2" longer (without the extension),and the mag release was in a great spot. It just seemed like it would be a very comfortable gun to shoot. The only reason I'm on the fence is because Glock's proven track record is so appealing to me. I want a gun that I can keep for decades and have it go bang when I need it to. Smith and Wesson is a newer design. Any thoughts?
