Shooting down into the ground that close to you is fucking dangerous as hell. That guy is an idiot. Taking your eyes off what you're shooting with your finger on the trigger? If you did that where I work, you would get a butt-stroke to the head, followed by a beating that would remove 4-5 teeth.
I know that it's all for show, but I despise his attitude. There is a very, very big difference between being familiar and having fun with firearms and treating them like toys. When I go out plinking, I'm having fun with my guns. I might make a couple stupid remarks, quote a couple movies, etc. But when there's actual lead going downrange, that's the first thing on my mind. It takes less than a second for circumstances to change and become unsafe to shoot. If you're sitting there headbanging into the camera while lead is flying downrange, there is no way in hell that you can respond to that. Odds are that he won't hurt anyone. Still, I don't like it. Oh, and like BrianH said, shooting into the ground like that is just asking for a ricochet. Hi, I'm shooting .50 cal rounds, and I'm not quite sure where exactly they're going to go! Yeaaah...
To reply without being a dick, I should have seen how stupid what he was doing is. Thankfully I'm more aware when I've got a gun (or gun parts, for that matter) in my hands than when I'm drinking beer on the couch, but regardless gun safety should be considered any time. I'll make up for it with some gun porn. Custom made matched 1911s. Spoiler Spoilered for size.
Speaking of old WWII era rifles, I finally get to put a few rounds through my SMLE this weekend. I'm pretty excited.
Look what I just bought. I fell in love with these guns the first time I ever laid eyes on them. Savage 24 S series (single shot) 20 gauge/22LR O/U
I recently acquired a Stoeger Cougar 8000 in 9mm. I've put nearly 1000 rounds through it so far. This weekend, I had a problem with it double feeding. I was using the Winchester white box and it was double feeding about once every other magazine. It's getting pretty frustrating. I put 250 rounds of Wolf through it last weekend and was fine until my last 100 rounds when it started double feeding quite a bit. I cleaned the hell out of it immediately afterward, but something tells me the problems this weekend might have been caused by the Wolf last weekend. Anyone else have these problems?
I've had double feeding issues with similar laquered steel cases in an AK. I wouldn't have bought them but the difference between it and brass cased ammunition at the time was stupid. I have read that once you get a gun hot, the laquer can get soft and cause trouble and I think that is what may be happening. Have you cleaned the chamber at all? I have a question of my own too. Both me and my brother shot several times at one goose from a good distance (40-50 yards) this weekend and when I cleaned it, it was hardly damaged. We were using fast BB size steel shot. Because I don't go waterfowling that much, I'm thinking it may be worth it just to swallow the cost and get some heavy non-toxic loads because I've hardly touched the box of 25 steel loads I bought a couple years ago. Does anyone hunt much with them? Price vs. performance and patterning are what's on my mind. I've got the standard IC-M-F Remchokes for my shotgun and wouldn't be opposed to buying a special choke tube for using the nontoxic shot, but only if it would really make a difference.
Yep. I use a toothbrush and solvent in the chamber. Most of the guys who use tungsten swear by it. It has just as much knock down power as lead without the toxicity. It is mighty expensive, though.
Visual inspection seemed fine. Someone on another forum mentioned that they've had issues with the Beretta mag springs in the past, but I don't see why that would cause a failure to eject. I found this on another forum and I'm guessing it was the steel casings on that goddamn commie ammo that caused the problem. "The brass will form itself to your chamber when firing. Steel, not as malleable as brass, will not form this seal and will allow fouling to build in your chamber. So if you fire a bunch of steel ammo followed by brass, your brass expands into the fouling, and can lead to a stuck case."
Gun porn: a .300 Winchester Magnum built for 1000 yard prone competition. It is built off of a rare FN single shot (solid-bottomed) Mauser action by the Marine Marksmanship Unit. I used to think I was innovative by gluing walnut together, and then I saw stuff like this.
I had a helluva Saturday. Did a bunch of shooting with a buddy and between us, we had a pile of rifles and ammo to shoot up. I haven't shot my Suhl prone style for a long time so I dusted off the prone gear and had a lot of fun. It amazes me how precisely you can shoot with a good .22 and good aperture sights. Then I took the chunk of claro walnut I got for the old 12 gauge project to a bandsaw. The value of the wood combined with the time I'd spent figuring out what portion to use made a mundane task exhilarating. It's gonna look even better when it's been sanded and it's not covered in sharpie lines. Life is too short to have boring guns.
So I'm graduating from a law enforcement academy in then next few months. I'm looking for a concealed carry holster. I know nothing about them, whats the best brand/etc. An help would be appreciated. Thanks.
