I'd say it's highly unlikely I get a class III, but y'know that wouldn't hurt. Having a firearm the government may never be aware of is more appealing to me, and in my mind there's nothing better than an AR to fill that slot...

Echoing flat_rate, I went Sunday and was almost appalled. The local show is usually the same people every time, but not this time. There were more people selling Ar's and magazines than I think I've ever seen in one place. One guy had a nice display of about 12 Colt bare bones fixed handle m4's....$1899 each, and that was probably the best deal in there. Ruger mini 14's were $1100 ea. Handguns weren't going too bad, but there was a bump in them also. Surplus mags were $37 ea. (these were about $6 a month ago). The sad thing is that you could see where the dealers just taped a new price over the old table sign. I guess all of the people hoarding since the 94 ban are finally coming out to make their money.

Given Flat_rates pricing down there, I guess Ohio isn't doing too bad.

I've recently acquired another rifle. I was updating my inventory list, and I realize it's been awhile since I updated the "Value" column. I have quite a few guns, so walking into Barnes & Noble to look up one value in a Blue Book isn't really an option. (I'd like a free online resource, but I'm not sure there is such a thing, like there is for cars.)

Years ago, I had a hard copy of a Blue Book that was fairly complete. I have a few that are somewhat valuable, but none that are rare. I was going to browse around something like gunsamerica.com to get ideas. Is that a good option? Can you see actual completed sale prices if you register? Or is gunbrokers.com a better option? For instance, I have this gun. It is listed for about $200 more than I thought, as are other similar ones. The shotguns I looked at seemed more inline with what I was expecting. Is everything jacked up right now, or just AR-15's?

I am trying to have a reasonable list of replacement values for my insurance policy. I'm not planning on actually selling any, although, I'm always interested in potential trades. So, I'd like to have a good idea of price ranges I could expect.

You can see the price after an item has sold on Gunbroker, at least I've bought a gun there.

I've been spending a lot of time checkering and this pattern is finally getting sharp.

Great, Chuck Woolery is going to really make the AR-15 demand go up.

I started work on a new grip pattern last night, inspired by the style of Darwin Hensley (with a little hook in the back and traditional point pattern front).

    An original Hensley job...

Side note- ain't that the prettiest little Mauser ever? I do wish the receiver was blued, but still. Damn.

Anyone have any experience with Black Powder? I have a .50cal T/C Hawken kit from the 70's. Trying to sight it in has been a struggle. It seems to shoot insanely low. Ive tried building up a load for just a regular round ball. The iron sight that came with it can be adjusted up and down but the turning screw for up and down holds the whole rear sight in. After a certain turn the whole rig loosens up. Different amounts of black powder don't seem to move it up or down too appreciably. Any suggestions?

Now we're close to making some real diamonds.

The stock is inletted/bedded for a .920" barrel but looks fine with a sporter taper barrel too.

Also, some interesting news from Winchester... a new .17 rimfire cartridge. This is the .17 Winchester Super Mag, based on their .27 nail gun cartridge.

    .22lr, .22 mag, .17 hmr, .17 wsm

Two loadings available with 20 gr. loads at 3000 and 25 gr. loads at 2600 fps. No idea who will be making rifles chambered for the .17 WSM. It'll be interesting to see how this develops!

I'd be surprised if Savage didn't have one in the works. Marlin, too.

Yep. Add CZ into the mix and you have some real competition. I'm wondering if this will require them to design a new rifle action from the ground up because of the much higher pressure in this cartridge as well as a different bolt face.

Check this out- there's a test rifle from Savage in the background of a pic: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.huntingclub.com/blogs/articletype/articleview/articleid/14679/new-raging-rimfire-17-winchester-super-magnum#.UOexSm9ln54" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.huntingclub.com/blogs/articl ... Are there going to be stability issues with a little 20 grain bullet zipping around at 3,000 fps? I liked my .17, but the smallest crosswind fucked it all up it seemed.

Well there's rimfires for ya. Shoot like lasers until the wind kicks up.

I ran some numbers through a ballistic calculator and it seems the 20 gr./3000 fps load has about half the wind drift of a standard .22 lr 40 gr./1200 fps load from 50-200 yards. Also the .17 WSM will push 20 gr. bullets 600 fps faster than the HMR, so even though higher speed means more drag on the bullet (more drift), it will still be an improvement (like 1.7" drift at 100 yards versus 2.4" with a 10 mph crosswind).

Fine gunmaking... building double rifles from scratch at the firm of L'Atelier Verney-Carron.

They may be French but damn they build some nice guns.

My favorite part of the whole video is him talking about the fishing lures. I cackled when I saw this.

Once this dies off there is going to be a huge influx of cheap rifles. Personally I put one on back order and I'm just going to wait until it ships out in another few months. Fuck paying 2k for a $800 rifle. I actually saw a WASR locally going for $1200+.

If you keep a close eye on PSA, you can build one for $700ish if you catch the sales. The only problem is that the parts only go up on the site while they have them in stock, so something could be on the site for just a few hours before they list it as 'out of stock'.

Any idea of what their stripped or 80% lowers are going for when they're available? I really want to build a 6.8 but I have about a dozen irons in the fire right now. I think I'll be okay if I can nail down a lower.
