Re: Re: Guns and Ammo Thread I see on Gunbroker now a case of Remington Thunderbolts going for $660, and the auction ain't over yet. That's $66/brick for some of the worst .22lr ammo out there on the market. *The price jumped to $705 before I could finish the post. I hope they enjoy that crappy stuff for what I buy bricks of mid-level match ammo at (well, if I can find it now). Unfortunately this will severely curtail my shooting habit this summer. Only my benchrest rifles will be fed- the others will have to wait.
In the 12 minutes since Gunbot.net alerted me to 50 rounds of 9mm for 24.99, it's been sold out. Gotta get this auto fill working on the phone.
Re: Re: Guns and Ammo Thread There was a local store that had 500 rounds of 9mm for $339. Not even good shit. One of the employees asked me if I found everything I needed and it took every ounce of restraint not to act a fool. I'm NEVER going back to that store. You hear that Cheaper Than Dirt? FUCK YOU! Oh and the best part, they had rifles lining the walls but nobody buying. I saw a WASR 10 AK which normally runs $500 for $1300!!! I saw literally the same rifle ten minutes prior at Cabelas for $559.
Re: Re: Guns and Ammo Thread Yes- they have been some of the worst on price gouging. $150 for a brick of Armscor .22lr ammo. I've bought some stuff from them previously but the bastards will never get any of my money after this. I was at a Cabela's last night and they had some pistol rounds in stock but no .22 ammo in sight and very little .223. Cheap plastic AR mags are back in stock.
Re: Re: Guns and Ammo Thread They also jacked up government-issue 30 round mags to $99 for a week or so after Sandy Hook (not before announcing they would temporarily halt online firearms sales, of course). Fuck that place and their user-unfriendly website. I didn't realize they had a brick and mortar store.
Anyone know what the regulations are for foreigners residing in the US purchasing firearms? I might come live in the States and lecture in College for a year or two once I finish my PhD, was thinking of picking up a pistol and a couple rifles (the pistol to sell on when I move, the rifles hopefully to take home).
According to the 4473 (US gun background check form) Nonimmigrant Aliens can purchase a firearm if the alien is in possession of a hunting license or permit lawfully issued by the Federal Government, a State or local government, or an Indian tribe federally recognized by the BIA, which is valid and unexpired. So, you could get a hunting license and purchase a gun or get your state residency and apply for a concealed-carry permit. Shipping guns overseas is a monumental pain in the ass. ETA- The gun folks have a handout. If you live here for a few years, you will meet the necessary requirements. http://www.atf.gov/publications/download/p/atf-p-5300-18.pdf
I have no idea how the Indian tribe thing would work, but based on ethnic stereotyping I'm guessing that would be your best bet, although it might involve a manila envelope with some small unmarked bills inside.
The start of a new benchrest stock. This thing will have eight seams in the blank and requires a lot more work to laminate together. I'm pretty happy with the lumber I selected. Spoiler
Re: Re: Guns and Ammo Thread If you want some .22 we have plenty in my neck of the woods for cheap. PM me and I can ship some to you.
This weekend is shaping up nicely. Sunny and almost 60 on Saturday and this just came in: Bad news is supply is low so won't be shooting much of it.
Katokoch: its all the same lot, 03355. I split a brick with my shooting partner, along with the brick of Sk. Whichever shoots better I guess we'll trade out to each other. I really don't want to spend more money than I have been lately, but we were talking about getting a second brick. I can't wait to shoot this stuff.
If the Eley isn't the best lot # for your rifle it may not do much better than the SK but if it's a good match... you're in for some fun. I shot some #3 machine stuff last year and it was some of the ammo I had all year (3330 was a killer lot). I highly recommend you make some simple wind flags if you don't use any already. They are critical for getting the most out of your .22 and that good ammo.
Most people make fun of "preppers", but we aren't all a bunch of backwoods hicks. I already started stocking some waaaayyyy before December hit in the event I ever needed to use ammo as a commodity to barter. Even before all this went down and prices were normal, forget magazines, I have several thousand dollars worth of just ammunition alone sitting in the closet. I was trading guns, magazines, and all sorts of shit for my ammunition after Sandy Hook.
Heyya gun folks. I have a buddy who just inherited a Romanian AK and doesn't want to keep it. And I want an AK, but know nothing about them. Anyone know what a fair price would be for it? He's a friend, and the gun has sentimental value - so I want to be super squared away on the value. I've included pics, and we fed a couple hundred rounds through it with no problem. Trigger pull is a little mushy, but action is super clean. Nothing after-market. Minimal superficial scrapes/damage. Also, it does something really weird: About three times while we were shooting, it fired a two-round burst. Fooooor... no reason. (Definitely doesn't have a full-auto setting on the selector switch, and the lever was all the way down on those shots). Is that an AK thing? Corgi added for perspective.
