Curious, what scenario are you thinking of where you're the one going through the door with the bad guy on the other side (as opposed to the bad guy coming through your door)? There something you not telling us about the life you're leading? Pretty sure he boar hunts in Italy and keeps his banned-in-the-UK weapons there.
SOT medic for a local agency. While the odds of me doing anything but getting dressed up to sit outside and sweat my balls off is low, I do get to play with the big boys twice a quarter.
So does the fact you were discussing painting your apparent duty weapon mean that you provide your own weapons for your job? If yes, is that expected or did you have the option of getting an agency furnished weapon but chose to use your own instead? I've actually wondered about this for both LE and military combat arms jobs. How much do those of you who work in such role get to determine what weapons you use? Are you allowed to use your own personal weapons or must you only use agency/military provided weapons? If you're allowed to use your own personal weapons on duty what guidelines do you have to adhere to?
Varies by department and the unit within the department. Usually, smaller agencies allow more flexibility than larger ones. In my case, we have issued weapons but are allowed to buy our own stuff as long as it is approved and we can qualify with it. SOT medics are still fire department employees, and there are only 6 of us in my department, so we have a lot of leeway in what gear we run, especially how we decide to carry med equipment. From what I gather, outside of the specialty units like SOT, narcotics, fugitive task force, etc, most patrol officers use what they are told to use.
Quick question: I forgot to ship a couple of empty Glock clips, can I put them in my carry on luggage?
Those scum bags have been gouging since December. I'm all for free markets, but fuck, these are the same guys charging $70 for a 50 round box of TulAmmo in 9mm. You sound surprised.
http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information ... ammunition Looks like they're banned from carry-on luggage but OK for checked bags. I'll bet you could sneak them through dissassembled. Also check if they are legal at your destination. Some states (Colorado and some NE states) have clamped down on evil plastic boxes with springs.
I am going to attempt a budget black rifle build, terrible time to do it I know but any of you know of a good source for a blemished stripped lower? I was just going to grab a Kel-Tec but I can't find one for a reasonable price.
PSA always has sales on everything. I got an ATI Omni stripped lower for $40. You just have to check back frequently until you find a sale.
Well, at least no one continues to politicize the Boston tragedies. You, know, like the Huffington Post pointing out the really important thing to focus on in the wake of the bombings: Since there was a significant gun battle during the attempts to apprehend the bombers, I think it's fair to point out in the article whether or not they had a license. But, as the lead headline? You've lost the ability to say you don't have an agenda in your news coverage at that point. Or, maybe I missed it when they ran a headline reading "Boston Bombing Suspects Did Not Have Bomb Licenses." Personally, I'd like to focus on stepping up the background checks for pressure cooker buyers.
Apparently the defeat of "sensible gun safety laws" is the fault not just of special interests (see, we're special, isn't that nice) but also that pesky US Constitution that lets rural states have two whole Senators. And theses "anti-cosmopolitan" votes, and no I'm not making that up, have turned this nation away from the one true path. Hear that, kids? We're all too busy fucking goats and eating mudpies to understand the "master plan" they have laid out for us. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-04-1 ... cmpid=view
Re: Re: Guns and Ammo Thread I don't check at all any more, since I'm not in the middle of a build. However, when I was building mine in December, I checked back 2 or 3 times a day. If it's a hot item, it will be gone in just a few hours so you have to get it while it's available. Everything there is first come, first served with no back orders.
I traveled to Nebraska this past weekend to do some .22 target shooting. I went to shoot in a private indoor testing range (a tractor shed with an extension) owned by a fellow target shooter on Saturday and then an ARA rimfire benchrest match on Sunday. Spoiler I brought my Suhl 150 with me but my Leupold 36x scope died, and we found out just before we were ready to shoot. The crosshairs are stuck elevation-wise. We put a Weaver T-36 scope on it but the rifle was still shooting erratically like it had been previously, so we decided I would shoot in the match with a rifle owned by the guy I was visiting. Thankfully I can send the scope back to Leupold to be refurbished and my options were pretty good as far as his guns were concerned. During the match winds were 20-25 mph and gusting to 35, so it wasn't a great day for high scores. The scope on the rifle is a March 10-60 and it is incredible. This was the view at about 45x. The targets were 50 yards away. We shot six targets with 25 bulls each during the match and somehow I held it together well enough to get 2nd place out of 14. I also had the highest target score for one round. The guy I was visiting won the match and I was pretty close to him but some little mistakes cost me. No complaints about bringing metal home!
I tried handgun metallic silhouette shooting for the first time on Sunday. It was lots of fun and unlike anything I've done before. Spoiler The range was handgun-only with sets of both centerfire and rimfire targets. Centerfire go out to 200 yards, rimfire 100 yards. Centerfire rifle silhouette goes out to 500 yards. The targets are steel plates cut into animal shapes- chickens, pigs, turkeys, and rams scaled to the class you're shooting in. I shot with both scoped and open sighted custom TC Contender .22s. Shilen barrels and very light triggers. This made it even more interesting... getting in the creedmoor position with my left arm supporting my head and right leg supporting the pistol. It seemed really goofy at first but you can hold rock solid once you get the hang of it.
Anybody every shoot these before? Jumping Targets The last show I went to, they were sold about $10 less than that - and no heavy shipping fee, either. Guy I talked to said they sell the refill stickers, but most people just spray paint them orange every now and then. Looks like fun.
If I had an open field to shoot in, I'd get one for sure. Fun news... Sen. Harry Reid recently introduced a bill requiring background checks for gunpowder purchases. Sen. Frank Lautenberg: Note to the shitheads in Washington... your fucking stupid bill wouldn't have prevented the Bostom Marathon bombings because the brothers bought fireworks to create the bombs, not gunpowder. Nor would it have stopped another terrorist attack like the Oklahoma City Bombing where fertilizer was used. Nothing like politicians using a tragedy to push their agendas with a bill that completely misses the mark...
