A shooter in North Carolina just shattered some 600 yard benchrest records with an UNBELIEVABLE .349" 5-shot group. The previous IBS Light Gun record was .699". <a class="postlink" href="http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2013/05/amazing-wagner-shoots-0-349-50-2x-group-at-600-yards/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/201 ... 600-yards/</a> .349" at 600 yards is .055 MOA. Ridiculous. Also, these are looking pretty damn sharp if I may say so myself... just mineral spirits swabbed to simulate a finished look. Spoiler
I've decided my challenge for this fall/winter will be making a stock similar to this for my Winchester 70 .270. We'll call it a modern English style rifle, or just gun porn. I'll start work on it in September during a gunsmithing seminar, with a machine-inletted blank so I can finish the inletting and shape the stock by hand. That rifle in particular is a custom .223 Mini-Mauser by James Anderson, and it is truly a work of art.
Want to hunt deer a mile out? Stripped PSA Lower - 35 bucks, no papers or background check, 'Merica What would you consider a good buy for a complete LPK? For a complete upper? I got an email from PSA today and they have Blackhawk complete kits for $699, I don't have 7 bills laying around anyway but that seems pretty pricy to me.
Went to the range on the weekend for a 700 yard F-class shoot. Shot like shit the first set (50.1) but did way better for my second with a 56.4. I know its not world class or anything but im pretty happy with it for a beginner. So damn satisfying to put 12 rounds in a spot no larger than the span of my hand at that distance. Has anyone got any personal experience with the CZ-750? A guy at the club is selling his off for $2k, its only had a couple hundred rounds through it. Its right at the top of my budget but if i can get him to knock a couple hundred off id be very interested. Ive checked a couple reviews online and they seem quite positive, just keen to hear any first hand thoughts on it.
Leupold & Stevens is awesome. When I drove down to Nebraska to do some rimfire benchrest shooting a few weeks ago, my Leupold 36x (1979 mfg date) went down before I could fire one shot at a test range. I started boresighting the scope and noticed the windage was clicking funny, then went to adjust the elevation and nothing happened. Click-click-click and the crosshairs didn't move. Hmmm... shit. I sent the scope to Leupold the next week and got a voicemail from them this past Friday. According to the customer service rep, the erector lense had separated and they were going to replace the scope under warranty due to a lack of parts for that model. I spoke with another rep today to discuss options and they will be sending me a 40x45mm Competition Model scope with a fine crosshair reticle in return, at no cost to me. The phone call took less than 5 minutes too. I liked that 36x a lot, but have zero complaints about a new 40x. I wish all Mondays started off this well!
PSA has some 5.56 in stock for a decent price. <a class="postlink" href="http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ammunition/rifle-ammunition/223-5-56/prvi-partizan-5-56-m193-200rd.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.ph ... 200rd.html</a> Granted, it's not pre-2013 cheap, but who knows if we'll ever see those prices again.
A decent LPK is gonna run you $65 or $70. For a complete upper, $600 and up depending on what it includes. If it's a kit with LPK, buffer, tube and stock in addition to the complete upper then $700 is good right now.
Finally got myself a rifle! Remington 700 VSF with a McMillan A5 stock: Second hand but only had a couple hundred rounds of factory ammo through it. Pretty happy with the price i got as well. Now i just have to work my way through the backwards ass application process we have in Australia for my firearms licence. I've paid my money and I legally own the rifle but i will not legally be allowed to possess it for at least another 60 days (30 day cooling off period, then the application process can take another 30+ days). I should be allowed to shoot it under supervision of the dealer who has it under their licence though, so that's something... i guess.
Anybody familiar with California gun laws?? Moving out there next year and basically need to know what I need to do in order to make my stuff legal.
If the new laws they have winding through the state legislature passes I believe you'll have to summit to cavity searches before you can apply for a permit to purchase the privilege of shopping for ammo.
Yeah, you might as well just ship everything to me for safe keeping. I know that if you have an AR, you need to modify the mag release. It's called a bullet button. I also believe it's illegal in Kalifornia to have "one of those shoulder things that flips up."
What, pray tell, is the "bullet button loophole?" Those fucking things seem about as unloopholey as you can get.
Short story: Lawmakers in California think removeable and/or high capacity magazines turn semi-automatic rifles into deady assault weapon baby killers. Long story: The "bullet button" prevents magazines from being dropped by using your finger but allows small tools like the tip of a bullet to do the job. With the "bullet button" installed you can make an AR-15 legal for California because the laws then treat it like a fixed magazine rifle. Spoiler From Wikipedia: More of the Cali legislation: I'm fucking glad I don't live there, that's for certain.
Loophole as in crafty gun owners engineered a way around a poorly written stupid law. But from the sounds of it Cali wants to move to undetachable magazines only for semi autos. Im guessing, if it already hasn't happened some crafty gun owner will build a top loading AR that can receive stripper clips* which would make it quicker reloading than the bullet button solution . Then the state government will only want bolt actions/lever/pump guns legal. Sales of SKS should be way up if these new laws go into effect. *(you know without having to crack the gun in half)
My plan is to just buy a California-legal lower and put it together with the upper I already have. This would make my gun legal and would allow me to keep the regular lower I already have unregistered in a free state. I'll only be there for about a year and a half, so when I leave I can sell the lower and hopefully get most of my money back. Or should I just say "fuck it" and get a shotgun?? I also understand that service members are exempt from having to register handguns, which is nice (I assume it would still take an act of God to actually get a concealed carry permit), and that standard capacity mags can be brought into the state as long as they're disassembled....but I'm not really familiar with these new laws that just got passed.
CA is a "may issue" state. It all depends on how seriously the local sheriff takes his oath to defend the constitution. <a class="postlink" href="http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/california.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/california.pdf</a>
Inlays are a bitch. This little ebony diamond will be like an escutcheon around the front takedown screw (for a CZ 452 stock) and will also hide a 1/2" steel pillar. My first attempt resulted in a shattered piece of ebony- the second go was more successful. No power tools necessary.
This is ridiculous. First shot hit at 1000 yards, shooting offhand with a Barret .50. Skip to 1:20 for the shot.
