Right now Panteao is has an awesome deal for their online subscription going on. It's no substitute for the real thing, but if you aren't able to spend thousands of dollars to take these classes in person $15/mo for essentially a "lecture only" class is a fucking steal. The Paul Howe, Pat Rogers, Travis Haley, and Matt Jacques videos are excellent. I've shot with all four and the videos are almost verbatim from their actual classes.

Paul Howe's first-hand story of the Black Hawk Down incident is also a must watch.

So I been on the hunt for holsters for my fnx 45 and I'm having trouble finding anything specifically made for it. Does anyone know of anything manufacturers that make a holster that will also hold a magazine or 2? I'd prefer canvas because leather runs a bit pricy.

I would go with leather. I have a canvas holster, that came with my revolver, and I look like Barney Phife trying to get the damn thing out of that holster. Have you looked at any of the kydex holsters?

Let me ask you this: what do you want to use it for? Both Safariland and Raven Concealment make excellent holsters for the FNX 45. Both are high quality and will last the lifetime of the gun. If you want something for every day carry, Raven is the best in the business. Safariland makes the best duty holsters if you want to carry it openly or on a war belt.

None of the high-quality manufacturers make holsters with spare mags on them anymore because it's a useless feature. You don't reload with your strong hand so why keep mags on your strong hand side? There are tons of awesome options for carrying extra magazines. Raven Concealment offers the two best options: kydex ammo carriers or pistol tacos from HSGI. I own both and it really depends what you want to do with them. The kydex ones are better for conceal carry, the taco pouches for when you just want a fuckton of ammo.

Leather and canvas are going the way of the dodo. They wear out over time and don't do the job half as well as kydex. Plus, chicks dig kydex shit.

Is gonna sound weird but I don't plan on open carrying. I mostly want it to just keep the gun in because I don't want to keep it in the case I bought it in. Its just too big. And something to keep it when I go to the range. I will look into kydex.

Honestly, the Raven holster would be perfect for that. You spent good money on the gun, spend the $80 for a good holster. CompTac makes ok holsters too and they are a bit cheaper if you aren't looking to break the bank. Stay away from Blackhawk. It's cheap garbage.

I didn't get anything from black hawk. Thanks for the help. I knew very little about kydex. I just figured leather was the way to go. But I don't particularly feel like caring for leather products either. I will buy a kydex holster.

I don't even think a 45-70 could take down an elephant. I mean you would really piss it off. And hurt it. But to kill it?

I'm sure it has been done. Many, many elephants were killed in the last century by 7x57 Mauser and .303 British rifles. Shot placement still matters most.

But... would I shoot an elephant with a .45? Sure, if you mean .450 Nitro Express. That would be a great excuse to build/buy a double rifle too.

PS Archer the New York Post might as well be a trashy tabloid sold in a supermarket checkout aisle. I love the "haul included military-grade machine guns with silencers as large as the weapons themselves" line.

That entire article is an exercise in stupidity and ignorance. It's like doing the word search in the Sunday paper, except you're looking for incorrect facts and just plain stupid shit.

    1. An SKS for $1100? Fuck me.
    2. An SKS is similar to the one used in Newtown? Other than being semi-auto, it's nothing like an AR. Might as well say that a 10/22 is the same as an AR.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg of stupidity.

I kinda wish the article had a comments section, just to see how other idiots react and watch the meltdown.

Yeah i kinda figured that out, whats particularly funny to me is I got to it from a reputable news site here in Australia that had latched onto the story. I just followed it to the source.

Unfortunately i bet a lot of people over here read that and didn't even bat an eyelid at the elephant thing, or the rest of the stupid. Our media is going a bit spastic over the shooting of that Australian guy on the baseball scholarship so any gun story is getting traction over here. An ex deputy prime minister has even called for a boycott of travel to the US, i shit you not.

I think maybe I got el husband pinned down on a firestick he wants for Christmas: .308 Savage rifle. I think he prefers the wooden stock. I am not sure that all Savage rifles come with that special Savage acu-trigger but he wants that as well. Should I just be shopping on gunbroker.com? I am not sure how much these things cost or what a deal looks like.

Is Savage a more expensive brand? Just scrolling through the Savage 308's they are looking pretty pricey, but other brands like Winchester are way lower in cost (or is that just a seller trying to dump a gun).

Did he mention a model that he likes? I have the Savage 112 BVSS and it has been a great rifle. I've killed critters out to 300 yards and hit a steel plate at 500 yards.

Try http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php, http://grabagun.com/ and http://www.slickguns.com/, when looking for a deal.

Savage makes a good rifle and I believe that most of them do come with the accu-trigger now. Generally, Savage is not a more expensive brand, but it also depends on the specific rifle you want. You can find a .308 rifle with a synthetic stock for less than $400 and you can find their top end rifles for around $1K--and everything in between. If he's looking for something like their American Classic with a wood stock, then you're most likely going to be above $600.

Keep an eye on the sites that gogators mentioned--especially Bud's and Slickguns. The other thing I'd recommend is to go to a local gun shop and talk to the owner there. There's a guy near me that if you walk in and say the word "cash", he knocks off 10-20% right away depending on what you want. If I stick around and shoot the shit for a little while, he'll sometimes throw in some ammo or a case for free as well. This is especially true for the guys who don't sell online.
