Im sure dealers love the bill for the transaction fee they get to charge. Unless you get busted in a sting I see absolutely now way they could determine if a gun was sold pre law or not. They'll connect it to some fuzzy crime statistics in a few years and continue to claim they are on the leading edge of saving the chillens.
I'd just parrot Dewercs comment here. Know what's way better than that legislation in Washington? This... The reason why those Olympic rifles look so weird is so they can be fitted super precisely to the shooter's skeleton, like in the video. Also, Jessi Duff is hot and could outshoot all of us put together.
Recently got into reloading and used my first batch of rounds in my rifle club championships on Sunday. Came in second for my division in the 800 yard and 900 yard category, so im pretty happy with that! Especially as im shooting off a bipod and sandbag combo rather than the full benchrest style setup most of the other competitors were using. Rifle is a Remington 700 in .308, in a McMillan A5 stock. Glass is a Vortex Viper 6-24x50 FFP. Dont have a nice pic of the rifle handy but Ive posted it before. Loads are 43.6 grains of ADI 2206H and projectiles are 155.5 grain Bergers Shot a 57.3 @ 800 Yards (the 4 and 5 are from a big change in the wind i didn't pick up on and adjust for) and a 59.3 @ 900 yards I also just recently took possession of my new plinker/bunny buster, a little lever action .22 Magnum Winchester 9422 XTR and im very happy with it. Super fun to shoot and shoots a pretty tight group @ 50 yards. For reference on how much worse your gun laws can get it took me 3 months total to purchase that rifle: - I had to pay for it up front before i could even lodge an application for it to be added to my licence (if the license is rejected you forfeit the rifle) - It then needed to be stored at a licensed dealers (usually involving a fee... luckily i have a friend from my rifle club that acted as my dealer) while i sat through a 28 business day cooling off period - I had to pay a $175 fee to the licensing office and fill in 5 pages of forms and supply supporting documentation proving my identity and 'genuine need' for a firearm (keep in mind i am already licensed for what is essentially a high powered sniper rifle) - It took them 2 full months after the cooling off period to process the application (and that is considered fast)
I had not gotten on the EOtech wagon yet but jumped in yesterday when a guy who does some kind of training for law enforcement and wannabe mercenaries sold me a couple for cheap. Going to site them in today just in time to slaughter some hogs next week in Texas.
Palmetto State Armory has the DPMS AP4 .308 rifles on sale for $699.99, if anyone is interested. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/18703/s/dpms-16-308-carbine/
Gun porn... color case hardening on a Steyr M1912 Mauser by gunmaker Dave Norin. It's a process that works best on the old Mausers because of the iron used then, a far cry from our modern steels. Note the unmolested receiver rings... no scope for that badass Mauser.
Thought you guys might find this interesting. A buddy of mine has a couple of Mosin-Nagants that he has been messing around with. They are insanely cheap- you can buy a case of these rifles for about $2,100. You can even turn the case into a lovely coffee table (first pic). He bought one, then bought a couple of stocks to play with. He is working on one of them now. He stripped the finish, bleached it, then used a leather dye to get a nice dark tone to it. Now he is oiling it, I think with boiled Linseed oil. It is very dark, but you can see the wood grain, and it actually looks like it has depth. This thing is going to look great when he is done. Hopefully the pictures give you a good idea of what it looks like.
Any opinions on the HK VP9? A buddy of mine has one and I like the feel though I haven't gotten the chance to shoot it yet. All I currently own is a Glock 23. And I'm also in the market for a 1911, I have my eye on a Sig Tacops. Any suggestions or recommendations?
In addition to how it feels in your hands is there anything specific about the VP9 you like or are looking for? I'm a fan of HK's. They're very accurate out of the box. I have a full size USP .45 and while it's the size of a boat anchor, it fits my hands better than a few smaller handguns I have and weighs about the same fully loaded as well. If I was in the market for another handgun, my short list would consist of compact HK's. Are you buying a 1911 as an antique or as something you may depend on to defend your life with? If the plan is to find an antique collectable, carry on...if not; take the money you'll end up spending on a decent Accurized 1911 replica and use it to buy on of HK's fine products chambered in .45, extra mags, holster, etc & a couple hundred rounds. The 1911 is a classic handgun, but remember; a 1911 was cutting edge technology 103yrs ago.
I've been considering getting a 9 for a while as an easy to use / clean every day gun. Ive read a bunch about them and consider HK one of the top brands for handguns out there. As for the 1911, I'm not too particular about them as I've fired a good number, i just like the feel of Sigs. I'm not looking for any kind of antique or anything and the inherent complexity in 1911's is a buzzkill. I want a. 45 basically to round out my handgun collection right now and not a Glock.
Got 20 minutes? This is amazing: Holland and Holland is a name that has been in fine gunmaking since the mid-19th century, and to this day they are backing that name up with the ridiculous craftsmanship you see above.
If you buy a Sig, make sure you replace the factory mags. Every person I have ever spoken with said they are shit and I can personally attest to this as I had a Scorpion TB. I got rid of mine because I did not have the confidence to make this a daily carry gun. Before I replaced one of the mags with a Wilson Combat, the slide would fail to lock back on the last round. Not a critical malfunction, but still a malfunction nevertheless and one which should not be present on a $1k+ pistol.
1911s are somewhat finicky with mags, period. I have a box of different mags specifically if a customer's gun is acting up. I'll send them three or four brands to see if one works better than the others. Kimber magazines tend to work well. My old man's Colt needs Wilson mags to work. My Springfield needs newer mags to run 100%, but isn't particular all that much with ball ammo. It gets finicky with JHPs and runs best with Hornady Critical Defense. 1911s aren't dead-dumb-easy and there are a number of platforms that are more reliable. However, they're a lot of fun to shoot, carry well and have a historical background. I would say they're one of my favorites.
I love the 1911 platform because they are easy to shoot, point very well and are a damn FINE looking pistol. I intend on getting a few again once I'm in my long term home, but I personally won't carry one for strictly defense purposes just because of they are so finicky with mags and ammo. I'm not a Glock fan boy by any means, but I carry a model 19 because it goes bang every time and will shoot anything.
A local gun shop around here is having a Black Friday sale. I usually try to stay away from Black Friday sales. He's selling these two AR-15's for $559. The best prices I had seen before for one in this "value" class was around $679. - Smith & Wesson Sport - DPMS Oracle
I would take the DPMS over the Smith, just a personal preference I have both, ask him to waive the tax if you pay him cash and you have a good deal. Here is one on Gun Broker but you need to pay 25 for shipping and 25 for the ffl transfer but there is a rebate. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=455079795
I went with the M & P Sport. I misheard the price on the radio ad. It was $569, but I asked about a cash discount - walked out the door with it for $590. Merry Christmas to me!
