Maybe he means 700 pesos. Despite his lack of spelling ability, he did get one thing right: Hi-Point does offer a lifetime limited warranty.

"Custom" and "walmart" should never go together.

Oh c'mon guys, it's compatition ready. I'm helious already.

What will be competition ready in a few weeks, once I'm done with some chopping to shape and laminating with carbon fiber, is this sweet sweet Oregon claro walnut lumber:

After my work, it'll first head to Pennsylvania to be carved into a stock for a new .22 target rifle and then be shipped to the client in New Zealand. Fun stuff.

Finding non Glock/M&P .40 threaded barrels is turning out to be a pain in the ass.

Hkparts.net has links for VP40 threaded barrels, but they're not yet in stock (so who knows how long).

Ah well, I'll just keep shooting 9mm.

After months and months, this stock for a KIDD Classic .22 is about finished. It has simply been a pain in the ass to complete because the clear lacquer finish, while being very attractive, is equally brittle and took many hours of drop-filling and painstaking sanding to repair. It was awful while I was checkering:

See the big chip in the finish along the single line? Yeah fuck that.

To fix all the chips along the checkering, I had to slowly build up finish drop by drop with a tiny bit of lacquer applied with a toothpick and level it with the rest of the finish with 1500 grit sandpaper. Then I wet sanded with 2000 and 3000 to even it out and then buffed out the entire stock finish a few times with rottenstone and water for a satiny glow. It is slightly glossy in direct sunlight but looks softer indoors. After a lot of extra work, I actually like it now:

Just waiting on a barrel now. Shilen has taken forever to replace the 22" varmint taper barrel for this rifle after I sent it back for the second time and it has been months. Disappointing, but it is what it is.

While I'm at it, I'm nearly done with the fine shaping work on the 40X stock and it is partially sanded. Still not sure about the shape of the cheekpiece, but it is coming along:

Starting the finishing process on this 40X stock now. It'll be ready for test firing this weekend.

Hey, do any of you own a Glock 42 or 43 for your CCW? Thoughts?

I'm considering one of these, and I know I need to shoot them before I make my choice, but I really am comfortable with Glock. My favorite handgun that I own is my Glock 22 and I really like the idea of a smaller piece having the same trigger pull.

For a smaller Glock, I like my 26. Do you want the 42 to have a single stack? I've got a Mustang 380 that I like for that, and I hear a lot of folks talk about preferring the Keltec PF9 over the Glock 42.

Actually, I'm leaning toward the 43 because it's a 9mm and it's small enough for a pocket carry. I guess to answer your question directly, yes, the idea of the single stack making it a slimmer piece is why I am considering them. How do you carry your 26?

Thanks for your recommendations though, I will check both of those out.

For what it's worth, I held the glock and ended up getting a M&P Bodyguard 380 that I pocket carry in a Desantis Nemesis holster. Just felt better in my hand and is a great little gun. Worth checking out if you're not totally married to 9mm.

I also looked at the Diamondback, Keltec, Ruger, and a few others.

Well hornady for the past week or so have been saying stay tuned until October 27, 2015. First half the the 20minute youtube video is there announcement for a brand new bullet that is supposed to be leaps and bounds better then anything out there.

These always makes me laugh, maybe it is what they say it is, or just the normal marketing stuff we will have to wait and see.

My favorite commentary on it so far is "Hornady 2016: Just the Tip." This is standard new product hype. Even if the bullets have slightly improved BCs it won't mean anything for the vast majority of shooters. I've shot a couple of deer with Hornady 130 grain bullets that dropped dead on the spot and thought they were good enough already. It's just a question of how much more they'll cost now.

Any good hunter I know doesn't give a shit about the latest/greatest bullet "technology", because for the type of hunting we're doing, it doesn't matter. You're not making that 400 yard shot where super-high precision is required.

Hell, even Nosler Partitions (which were all the rage way back when) were never that effective for simple deer hunting. 180 grain soft points are still the go-to for just about everyone I know, and for good reason.

Hell, I barely go through 4-6 shots a season (a few to ensure rifle is still sighted, and a couple kill shots), and still have boxes of the same batch of ammo from 10 years ago that I'm using.

I can't speak for rifle bullet tech, but the new(ish) Remington Accutip shotgun slugs make a huge difference over the classic rifled slugs. They fly super flat and do serious damage. There are guys setting their zero at 100 with a shotgun, with only a 1-2" drop at 150--which is unreal.

The best hunting technology is between the shooter's ears.

If you need some super-fragmenting bullet to get an animal on the ground, it means you need a lot more practice shooting and probably at a much lower caliber first. Surgical bullet accuracy is great, but it's about 20th on the list of things you can do to upgrade your rifle (never mind, what's that word again... oh, PRACTICE) to better improve performance. It might make the difference between first and second in some high-level national competition (if all the bullets aren't standardized there anyway), but when you're talking about a deer or a hog or a bear with a dozen or so different areas and angles to hit it from and make an effective "kill shot," the only difference some technologically-advanced bullet is gonna make is in your wallet.

The best designed bullet in the world, in the hands of an amateur, can't hold a candle to the guy who grew up plinking soup cans with a Daisy Red Ryder and still hunts deer with his .223.

In the process of buy this gun (minus scope). Remington 700 SS 5r milspec, with harris bipod. Very lightly used, guy says less then 50 rounds done the pipe. Haven't gone on that firearms site in years, don't know what made me go on, but I am getting that for just under 1100 shipped. Gun right now is 1500 plus tax, the bipod depending on which one it is 100-150 plus tax. So I am saving a bunch of money.
