Only very slightly intriguing. I don't see last night's episode going anywhere even though they built up Barney's dad waaay too much to have it just be that. Also it was pretty boring until they started bashing on each other's funny habits...but didn't they already do that with the "but..." episode a while back? Lilly's aim thing was kind of funny though, and Barney trying to "unscrew" the basketball hoop. Meh, another filler.
I disagree about it being a filler. I'm now convinced they're building to Barney's wedding. Barney has knocked up Nora. When Nora tells Barney, he struggles with it, then remembers how he felt when his dad was gone, and how 'every kid should have a basketball hoop," and he'll remember how he is falling in love with Nora, and they'll end up getting married. This episode is building towards that, as it is a major character change for Barney, so it can't just happen over night. In fact, I feel like they've build and developed Barney as a character SO much more than Ted has been built and developed, which is kind of weird. I'm half-expecting there to be some kind of switcharoo at the end where somehow, it has been Barney telling the story all along to his kids with Nora.
Just re-watched the St. Patrick's day episode from season 3. He quickly bumps into a girl that he apologizes to, but she's never mentioned again. I'm sure that if the show had only lasted a few seasons, that would have been the mother. Any chance they bring things back round full-circle at the end of the series?
Maybe I'm thinking too much into it but Spoiler The other four main characters are all called Uncle and Aunt. I'm thinking that might mean its Barney and Robin. It seems weird that Ted wouldn't have mentioned Nora as Aunt Nora if she ended up married to Barney. It seems to me that they are still close during whatever time frame it is when Ted is talking to his kids.
Is there video online anywhere of the little Abbot & Costello run they did at the beginning? If it weren't for Archer spouting one-liners while being chased by KGB, I'd say their conversation about what club to go to is the funniest thing I've seen on TV this season.
Spoiler That's a good point. You think she would be refered to as Aunt Nora but I could see them not calling her Aunt Nora to not ruin things for future episodes. I think that's more likely than it being Robin. If it was Robin you think they would have done something this season to show that they still have feelings for each other.
Spoiler True, but Robin spent the whole episode talking about her relationship with Ted and her crush on that other guy.
Read: The writers didn't think of 7 seasons in, vis a vis they had no "Aunt Nora" character written in. And if they did, it would have removed all the tension of the "will he/ won't he." Whether he ends up with her or doesn't, you're still overthinking this. They'd never do that if it was a major plot point, just as if they wouldn't if we had already met the "mother."
Seriously. That episode was horrible, but it was worth it for the end result to get that spoiled little princess out of the picture.
Word, y'all. I didn't like Zooey. She was obnoxious, but so is Ted, so maybe they're perfect for each other.
