Just a note: Remember that Tucker didn't instruct you or anyone to pirate his movie. He vaguely supports piracy as a tool to spread art/information. Asshole or not, we are all on this messageboard because of Tucker Max and if you're skimping out on the 5$ to rent the movie (which ultimately goes toward encouraging independent movies, and not trite studio garbage like Couple's Retreat) you shouldn't brag about it. It reflects poorly on you. And for God's sake, if you liked it or found it enjoyable: TELL YOUR FRIENDS.

I watched this movie last night courtesy of a link provided somewhere. I thought it was hilarious. Not the best movie ever but pretty fricking funny. Just a few observations- 1. There were sound problems. A lot of the lines in the bar I couldn't hear what was said. 2. Tucker said there would be no hijinx in this movie. I thought the bit with Paul Wall was fairly hijinxy. But I also found it hilarious. 3. The poo scene went way to far. It was funny, but then became disgusting. 4. Tucker's speech was terrible. No one, and I mean no one talks at a wedding like that. He could of been sincere without being so grossly retarded. Other than that I loved the movie. The imagination scenes and flashbacks were awesome. I can't wait to buy it, and give him more of my hard earned money.
I just finished watching it. I found it OK, but a lot of it seemed forced and contrived. Most things I find funny can almost be real situations. There is no way some of the stuff in this movie could have happened. I didn't believe a lot of it. Spoiler Why did Dan's fiance get so mad that they went to another city? They were planning on going out in Richmond, but planned to go out in Salem instead...what's the difference? Dan could have gone to jail in Richmond just as easily. They were planning on being home at the same time anyway. Spoiler Some of the dialogue didn't work. A lot of Drew's lines seemed forced as well. I will kiss your ass if any guy goes out and talks to groups of random girls in bars like these guys did and still have the girls follow them around. I didn't believe that part either. With that, it's worth seeing. The movie is filled with whore, dick, and fart jokes, and there is lots of hot nudity and beautiful women. It's hard to mess that up. Like someone said before, I'll probably buy the DVD as a way of saying thanks for the memories.
and some more of Tucker's thoughts on the issue: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.ihopetheyservebeerinhell.com/dvd-comes-out-january-26th-my-thoughts-on-the-dvd/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.ihopetheyservebeerinhell.com ... n-the-dvd/</a>
Notice that he says "If you live outside the US"? My point is that he should be supported if possible, are you really arguing against it?
Ummm, not really. This was one of the things that surprised me the most. After reading the blog, Tucker made it sound like there was going to be wall to wall nudity, but in reality, it was fairly fleeting. There was a poorly lit opening scene, and then in the strip club there was some, but most of the close shots, the girls were in lingerie or whore outfits. Really, there was no more nudity in this than there was in the American Pie movies.
Any idea when the theatrical release in the UK is? tt was supposed to be 1st Jan but it hasn't come out yet...
Seems to me that it's up to the individual to decide whether or not he wants to support Tucker or not. $0.02 (CDN)
Watched it yesterday. Meh. The delivery from the Drew character was very forced and weak in my opinion. Some of the scenes were hilarious but I thought the story was weak. The best acting in the whole movie was the Mexican maid crying a tear when she looked at Tucker when she saw what she was going to have to clean up.
I have to disagree with everyone who is saying the Drew character seemed forced. I would say that sort of delivery is totally fitting with the type of guy that is being portrayed. If anything, Tuckers dialog seemed more forced and unnatural. Drew saved this film.
I have to agree. I thought Drew was what made the movie enjoyable. Tucker's arrogance was nothing I could relate to. While it was mildly entertaining, like his arrogance in real life, it was nothing I could get behind. The only person I could relate to and wanted to succeed was Drew. It seemed like Drew actually progressed as a person from the beginning to end. Tucker learned one and one thing only, Don't be a dick to your best friends. Being a complete douche to everyone else is OK. Overall I enjoyed the movie. I had quiet a few good laughs. I don't think 10 years from now I will be talking about and quoting this movie with other comedy's from 10 years ago but I was entertained for almost two hours. More than a lot of movies I have seen can say. I torrented it for now but sometime in the future I'm sure I will be buying it.
Pretty much all of my thoughts have been articulated here already, except for one thought I had upon seeing it for the second time. Anyone else reminded of James Spader, especially in Boston Legal, during Tucker's speech at the end? Just the way Czuchry talked in semi-soft way and his motions reminded me alot of it. Just my thought.
I'll one up all you fuckers saying you're going to "buy it" - I just rented it off Amazon for $7, AND I'm gonna buy it. Superfan #1. I watched it just now. Something I realized a few days ago, last fall I was hanging out with a group of people in DC and the girl in this video (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1922184" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1922184</a>) was with us. That's Veronika Dominczyk, Marika's sister (and yes, she's that hot in real life). She had some model boyfriend she was hanging all over all night so I didn't talk to her much, but Jesus, small world. As far as the movie goes, I still love it. I'll even stand by what I said right after seeing it the first time, that I thought it started slow and had a hard time finding a beginning, and that Drew took too long to deliver some of his lines, even if that puts me in a minority, but I still loved it. After my second viewing, though, I'll add that this movie would have been nothing, absolutely nothing without the solid core of the writing. Say what you want about the style of the movie or the lack of a slick production budget, if anything this is a sharp movie with some sharp dialogue. The acting, not always; the flow or the editing was fine at times, but Tucker was right when he said this movie will do nothing if not put the story first. It ended up being the only trait that truly stood out, but it made up for almost every other shortcoming. That's pretty much all I have to say, but having followed it since the very beginning (I still remember sitting at my desk during my internship when I read that he was starting a movie, in like, February 2008), I have a ton of memories that correlate to this process. I remember reading the script in September 2008 at the library at Michigan State and drawing glares from people, I was laughing so hard. I was at the premiere in College Park in late August and got to meet Ben Corman and Nils and everyone else. The whole thing, as separate from my real life as it's been, has just been an awesome ride and a really cool thing to have followed since day one (especially when Biscuits imparted his wisdom). I'm still interested to see where it goes, it having failed at the box office notwithstanding.
Wait, it seriously costs 7 fucking dollars to rent a movie off Amazon when the cost of the DVD is $15? Yet Hollywood wonders why it is struggling to counteract piracy.
I watched it the other night. I thought it was.... meh. I didn't find the Tucker character likable nor really funny- I just thought he was a dick. I get that his entire attitude is based around a "if they can't take a joke- fuck 'em" mentality, but the problem is that his "jokes" just weren't that funny to me. Maybe its because I have read the stories already and knew what to expect, but there was only one scene in the entire movie where I laughed out loud: Spoiler When Tucker was picking up Drew the next day from the stripper's house and sees Drew cuddled up with the stripper, Drew says something like "Well, what did you expect to happen". Cut to dream sequence where Drew is strangling the stripper like a mad man, with the little kid jumping around in bear slippers (I think) in the background. Then BAM- kick to the stomach of the kid by Drew. I don't know why, but that part was hilarious to me. I don't find looking at massive piles of poo funny, so if that is what he was banking on to be the iconic scene of the film, well alright, whatever man.
Finally got to watch it tonight. It wasn't amazing, but it was still pretty funny. After all the horrible reviews, I was expecting way worse. Maybe it's my warped sense of humor (I am here, after all), but I was giggling throughout, there were so many great one-liners. I've skimmed the book and found it entertaining, so I knew what I was getting myself into. I for one don't understand the criticism about the lighting. I thought the cinematography was fine, some of the editing/shots were a little amateur, and the acting was decent, too, except for the chick who played Kristy (not the best written character, but with a better actress might have been less irritating). Bradford and Czuchry are so fucking adorable, too, just gotta say. Matt's got a cute butt when it's not covered in shit. Overall, it was still better than a large percentage of the crap mainstream Hollywood markets to the masses. It really is a shame it didn't get the proper publicity, but that's been said. I also think the problem was that the humor is so dark a lot of time, the audience doesn't always know how to react. God, though, that shot of the maid standing in the lobby as Tucker comes out of the bathroom was as perfect as it gets. Also, props to Real Tucker for making me laugh out loud doing his awful best man speech.
I've seen IHTSBIH twice. The first time I saw it was the premiere tour back in August. I remember laughing a lot the first time through. I thought it was hilarious and I appreciated the dialogue and characters. In retrospect, I think it was because I was several shots past sober and ended up meeting up with two cute chicks who go to my university for undergrad that made it so much more enjoyable. Or maybe it was the 'tour experience' that made it so much fun, but as time went on, I found myself not really recalling any particular scene or any particular character as being particularly funny. The movie wasn't very quotable, either. I watched IHTSBIH again yesterday. The majority of the lines and jokes fell flat for me. The characters were unlikable and Drew's quips seemed forced, to the point that I grimaced at times. Tucker's character came off as a dick without any redeeming qualities that are present in the book. I chuckled once at Dan's character, but I can't recall the scene. I am probably not going to buy the DVD because I don't get the feeling that it's going to get funnier over time, or even maintain the same level of laughs over time. IHTSBIH was mediocre. Had I not been invested in the film by reading the book, the production blog, and the RMMB, I probably would have rated it lower. I really wanted to like IHTSBIH more then I did.
