Yay! I was so tired of not having my normal "Idiot Board time". Looking forward to the new board with the same people that made the old one so fantastic. So....hey, ya'll!! Same old Pinkcup as the old board, but with a new avatar. Oh, and for the record--since we're all chiming in here about what we did/did not like about the old board-- I liked it. Period. All of it. The mods, banning, wide variety of topics, the posters that brought some serious funny, and the intellectual debates that opened my mind to new avenues of thought that I wouldn't have found elsewhere. I hope that this place retains all of those great qualities, but minus the fanboys...and I'll do my best to contribute to that. Besides, who hasn't wanted BlueDog to be a moderator? Let the drunk modding from his free boat begin!
Posted at the old board, under the same. Mainly lurked, occasionally posted. Just to reiterate what many said, posting at the old board seemed completely intimidating. However, this one has a more friendly feel so I'm looking forward to contributing more!
Hi, y'all. Couple of the old users tipped me off to the new board, told me that it was an improvement over the clusterfuck of stupid that RMMB had become. Some of you may know me by trouble88 or the legs avatar. Thanks for creating this board.
Luke Two Seventeen here. And there. I guess I lurked over there, but it didn't feel like it. When I had something to say, I said it. I'll be doing the same here. Chater, I like what you've done with the place.
Am I the only fucking person who mainly lurked on the RMMB who thought the level of moderation was a welcome change from the avalanche of stupid that 99% of internet forums are? I don't know, because this thread is long and I've got to go fire off some knuckle-children and therefore don't have time to read it, but I quite enjoyed pausing to think before I hit 'submit', even though that meant I normally ended up not hitting 'submit' at all.
Nope, me too. Even reddit, which does a pretty decent job with self-moderating users, is very hard to read. You need to wade trough 30 unfunny jokes and a pun thread before you can find something even approaching a sensible comment. I've made something like 150 posts in the three years I had an account at he RMMB. But I kept coming back to read the funny threads and (somewhat) intelligent discussions. That said, I'll try to add some funny on here more than I did at the RMMB.
Nope. I always thought the capricious moderation is what kept the level of discourse so high. I know that I self-edited a lot, because I didn't want to get busted by a mod that was having a shitty day and it really improved the quality of my posting. I found that it carries over to other boards now as well, because I want to make sure that I really am trying to add value, funny or otherwise, to the topic before responding.
What you and Old Man Mr. Incredible wrote aren't mutually exclusive. He's not suggesting that the moderation here won't be as efficient, just that it won't be done maliciously or with some kind of agenda. That seems to be what many of you think was the old mods' M.O. Ideally, with the exception of 3 or 4 of the RMMB moderators (whose names aren't necessary here), I'd like to see the moderation level stay about the same. Thus far, the ones we have now have done a great job at that.* * Except for shegirl. EVERYONE POINT AND LAUGH AT SHEGIRL!
Not much on introductions over the internet, and that's not why I'm here anyway. This is a new forum with new leadership and a new way of doing things. One of the things that you've decided to do is have a discussion regarding the level of moderation on the old forum. I have no problem with that, despite the fact that I do not think most of you have enough information to state an informed opinion about it one way or the other. What I do have a problem with is people making things up. For example, I would venture to say that none of you know what happened in 2004-2005 when I decided to delete my account and the section of the board bearing my user name. That's because I never discussed it with anyone here. Similarly, there are very few people here who have knowledge of how or why the previous forum was moderated the way it was, and if there was the level of uniformity on decisions that you seem to assume existed. Most of the assumptions and so-called statements I have read here regarding why the moderators acted in the manner they did either are untrue or only apply to certain moderators and decisions, not to all. While I am not in charge of anything on this board, I do ask that you all not try to pass off your speculations as fact. Obviously, I am most concerned with those opinions that involve me and my supposed actions and motives, but I also think it is a good principle for you all going forward. Good luck with your new toy.
Do you actually know what capricious means? I always thought we were fairly consistent in not tolerating stupidity.
I may not know much about the space program, but I'm pretty sure that it was made clear that we are not here to discuss the poopyhead level of past mods. Next person to go down this route gets to be my official first ban of the week! Yay!
Only if you don't really care about that glass house in which you're chunking stones. I don't even know why you'd bother to build a glass house in Chalmette. That shit couldn't even stand up to a Cat 1!
Or 7 words and a sound effect in Da Pahrish: "Cooooo, dey be havin' dem meth labs, yeah." Don't be afraid to embrace your heritage here!
Now you're just being silly. If you truly knew The Parish that sentence would have had at least 5 more words. And all of them would have been "Dawlin' ".
I'm not going to lie, I thought the way the old board was moderated was part of what made that place so fucking funny. The problem is that too many people take things way too seriously, which leads to way too much crying. But hey - maybe if on this board we all get into a circle and sing Kumbaya together - it'll be a huge success.
AceDecade here otherwise known as the same name from the RMMB. I'm going to miss that place, but hopefully this will be a grand opportunity for a revitalization of the Member's Boobie and Booty threads.
