Unfortunately, I don't think the WayBack machine can archive threads/sites that require a username and password to have access to them.
Fast forward 2 years to October 2009. The Movie Review Thread, in all its glory. <a class="postlink" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20091004144123/http://messageboard.tuckermax.com/showthread.php?t=21503&page=20" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://web.archive.org/web/200910041441 ... 03&page=20</a>
I just read through the RedHighHeels callout thread. Maybe my sense of humor has matured, or maybe the funny was just lost in context and history, but that was painful to read until the actual advice started. I got nothing out of KungFuMike's cancer jabs, mostly because they were purely shock value. The only one who wasn't cyberbullying this chick was DCH, and he was still very condescending. I mean, I get that it wasn't really an advice thread, but I think we gloss over how rough around the edges that place really was. Obviously the traffic was nice and it was hilarious at times, but it was nearly always hostile and volatile. I think our nostalgia bias is akin to a soldier looking back at boot camp with endearment. On to the rest of the Idiot Board section. Hopefully that thread was the exception.
THis is a perfect example of how delusional TMax was towards the end: Steam? What fucking steam? The movie never even got up to a low boil. Clearly Phil and another poster (whose name I forget), who showed extensive knowledge of the film industry and predicted that IHTSBIH would not do very well in some earlier pre-release threads, knew what they were talking about. Tucker mentions several times that he would write an analysis of how things went sour with his film, but if you read between the lines, it is obvious he still thinks that sales (tickets or eventually DVDs) would pick up, and it would be unnecessary to write such an analysis. Actually, I think Tucker missed a golden opportunity in not following up on an earlier hint that he might write a book about the process of making his movie. His threads on that process were some of the best stuff on the board. They were informative, gave an inside look at the industry, and were well written. If he had followed through with a book, I honeslty think it would have been well received.
Is it sad that my heart actually skipped a beat when I clicked on the link and saw the familiar Rudius Media colors and emblem? Reading through some of that stuff reminded me why I liked it so much and kept coming back. Despite the overwhelming depravity and childish stupidity there was A LOT of great advice, insight and wisdom there. It's really a shame it's not all available. I'm really glad there's at least as much as there is. I'm going to be very busy reading for a while.
I think the majority of us just wanted it to be a success, and to see what would follow if it had become one.
I think this is the last captured date of the board, 10/09/2009. The wheels starting to come off the wagon. <a class="postlink" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20091009084324/http://messageboard.tuckermax.com/showthread.php?t=21503&page=22" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://web.archive.org/web/200910090843 ... 03&page=22</a>
I remember coming back from Cuba and seeing that about thirty thousand members were banned over the week. The next day, the gates were closed. Sad, but gone. Some of those people who asked advice REALLY didn't know who they were asking did they? Hello illegallyblonde.
I would say we've all matured, I was a fucking man-child on the old board. But ridicule is hilarious and awesome when people deserved it, and that stupid bitch deserved it. Find her earlier posts if you can.
If I could dig up one thread it would be the new year's eve ghetto liquor tasting. That thread was fucking hilarious.
Does anyone follow what Ryan Holiday has been up to? I read his book, only because I majored in journalism at one point so it was pretty interesting at one point, but now that he gotten into all this stoicism stuff (which his next book will be about, apparently) I believe the dude is truly becoming insane. It's just weird to me, because we all basically saw him grow up on the RMMB, from HS student interviewing Tucker, to first year college student, to dropout so he could tag along with Tucker, to running that whole media aspect of the movie and stuff.

I know I don't even want to look. I've discovered drunken facebook chats and PMs that I didn't know were saved from six seven years ago. God I wince in embarrassment reading them.
I am currently in my second hour of re-reading some of those. The All Star Thread is still pretty awesome.
