That, and on THE OLD BOARD (Dunn-dunn-DUNNNNN) you got loads of people posting because they wanted to impress Tucker and his buddies with how badass at drinking they were, and if they survived the inevitable reaming that they'd get, they tended to become either productive board members or hilariously vilified resident punching balls who were apparently impervious to all insult.

Lacking the whole magnetism of the "I really want this author I admire to read my stuff and maybe respond", it's quite difficult to attract new users to post, especially when we're being all cliquey. I'm sure a lot of people get a kick out of reading our stories, but I dunno how many feel inspired to contribute. I feel the fact that people also unhesitatingly tore each other apart at the drop of a hat might have made the braver people want to jump into the fray. The only flame war I can't think of here is when we had a go at 'Sack.

(not advocating wholesale flame wars, necessarily; they can easily tear a website apart, but holy hell can they be entertaining)

What you guys call the "Tucker Wannabes" were my least favourite thing about the old board. They completely stunk up the RMMB, but as a defence against them we had Boozy.

I did like having 70,000+ board members, though. That amount of high-humour traffic was hard to top.

I think a big barrier for people to overcome is the aspect of viewing as opposed to participating. More polls and such will help, as well as breaking down the fourth wall by asking for help.

    So, essentially, keep begging.

Re: Re: Is It Friday? Drink Posting Meeting Place.

I actually think the flame wars work in the opposite way. People see that they'll get flamed for every single little post, and they're reluctant to post. One of the reasons I liked this board so much was that there were virtually no outright flame wars (incredibly insulting neg reps not withstanding), and the no politics rule.

Really, I think a solution would be two fold (maybe three):

First, the mods can dedicate a non-mod person to finding decent suggestions in the suggestion thread and emailing it to them so they can bump it without having to deal with the spam. Second, maybe invite some more intelligent people here to get a few fresh voices. I'm sure people know intelligent people they talk to in real life; maybe tell them to show up here and post. Third, maybe add a new mod, someone who is fairly active on the board but wouldn't turn into a power-hungry dick that bans everyone that disagrees with them (another thing from the old board that most people hated). There are plenty of people that could be good mods.

    Hey everyone --

    Quick, nonjoking update.

As D26 guessed, once you log in as a mod, you get the thousands of pages of spam. One solution is for people to pm with interesting threads (ask lust4life, it actually works, especially if you're nice). Another (which I do sometimes), is for me to look up threads not logged in, then log in and search for them, then bump them. It's a little more tedious, which is why I'm less likely to do it. I'm lazy.

Personal life stuff -- I just started a new full time job, and I have two part time jobs, so the demands on my time are pretty steep. The new position is a bunch of stuff that I'm in no way qualified for, so a lot of my mental energy is divided. This board kinda gets the shaft sometimes.

None of these are really excuses, just some background into my (I'm sure) fascinating life. I actually have Tuesday nights free, so maybe when I get home I'll look for some interesting threads.

Feel free to pm me with suggestions. The more interesting they are/nice you are, the more likely they are to get bumped. Include a clickable link, like you would if it was porn. It probably is porn.

Re: Re: Is It Friday? Drink Posting Meeting Place.

I lurked on the old board, because I was sure I was too young and too dumb to contribute anything of significance, and did not want people to ruthlessly attack for something dumb I was bound to say/ask. (Now, of course, I have grown to be extremely wise and you should all listen to my valuable opinions.) I don't think people ruthlessly attack here (even in my reps, it's usually 50/50 green versus red, which is fine and expected given some of the topics), but a lot of the lurkers simply might not have that much to contribute. I rarely do.

Another reason might be that I am pretty moderate in my viewpoints. I do not have many strong convictions, so I am not really compelled to contribute to you guys arguing with each other. I'm much more likely to read what both sides are saying here, because most of you bring up valid points. I do sometimes take a stance, you know, for shits and giggles, or when I think I can perhaps contribute with a point that has not been brought up before. I mostly enjoy reading other people's opinions, because they can usually phrase things more succinctly and better than me anyway. But I almost always contribute to the polls, so that might be an idea.

And yet another reason is that people in my profession are expected to be well behaved members of society, aka not everyone can post all over the internet about how many drugs they took and how they woke up naked next to their best friend's mom (or something like that, am I doing it right?).

also, keep in mind, some of us don't English that well.

Congratulations on the job! Wait, what are all these jobs? Just the roles, and what not. I'm interested in what you do.

And that sucks, now the spam comments make sense. Well then, fuck, it is totally understandable. Well I linked that one Downndirty thread last page. If you could fire that one up. That thread invites participation, isn't political or religious, and definitely will pull a few lurkers out there.

I want a thread dedicated to my balls. My balls in different poses, wearing different costumes. Like dressed up as an Old West Gunslinger with leather chaps and two 6 shooters. The boys in a striped shirt with a beret and a fake Italian mustache. Maybe taken with nice angles, from the grundle, done in black and white. The boys in different locales. "Here's my balls in Rome!" "Here are my balls on holiday at the Mayan Ruins!" Or maybe a nice aquatint of my balls on a seaside cliff with a massive blonde mane flowing in the wind with colored leaves on the ground. Something really flattering and indicative of a lovely New England fall.

    Oh. PM. Right. Damn.

There's also the fact that pretty much everyone that has made their way to this site came because of the RMMB, without Tucker there's really nothing pushing people here. I mean how would anyone even stumble on this site?

I honestly don't know what I'm getting at since I agree with you...

Fulltime = Business Manager for a startup. Kind of a long story as to how I got the position, but basically it's a combination of HR/Office Management/Customer Service/Marketing with a bunch of other random stuff thrown in.

I run a basketball league (organizing, scorekeeping, writeups, trashtalking, playing in, etc).

I also host trivia (hosting, writing up, etc).

    The more you know!

I have a PM and I'm terrified to look at it.

Like, what if I'm not turned on by it? Does that mean CJ and I aren't ball buddies anymore? It's impossible that his balls can live up to the image I've made in my head, and yet I can't help but be drawn to them. I want to see them and don't want to see them all at once.

Question for the stoners. If you have a vaporizer, why would you smoke weed any other way? Isn't it the most efficient way to get the bang for your buck through getting high on less weed, being able to re-vape and/or using vaped weed for butter/baked goods? Plus it's easier on the lungs.

Am I missing something or are pot heads just shitty at math?

Dear drinkers... why would you drink anything other than everclear? It is cheap, and packs the most punch. Am I bad at math?

That's a ridiculous comparison, I didn't ask why they don't just smoke shitty cheap weed.

    A better question would be

Dear drinkers... If having your drink of choice from a glass got you drunk for half the price as having the same thing in a plastic cup why not always drink from a glass?

I haven't smoked weed in many years, since I've been working at medical device companies, but the act (and often the taste) of smoking was always enjoyable to me. It wasn't just about efficiency.

It'd be interesting to see how many new actual people were signing up for the board - I'm guessing almost all the new registrations (the newbies people see logged in) are spam bots... but without admin access to the board, the mods can't do much. If anyone gets admin access, they can PM me and I can lend a hand. I successfully cut down the spam registrations on my board from dozens a day to about 1 per day.

Vapourizers cost a good amount of cash (hundreds of dollars) and you need a place to plug them in. You can only own one if you live in a place where you also smoke pot inside, where you live. That eliminates a lot of potential owners, including myself. Usually most people get past smoking weed where they also live and do laundry after college.

Believe me: I would own one in half a heartbeat, but I don't smoke in my house and it would be a pain to hook it up outside each time (keeping nosey neighbours in mind) and weather permitting of course.
