At this rate, the Yankees will have 162 more wins than the Red Sox by the end of the season!

We're probably there 4-5 days before the F1 weekend to pass tech, do testing/practice, set up our pits, qualify for entry (minimum lap times), etc., and probably check out 1-2 days after.

Details aren't set yet, but I'm hoping to get them all sorted by the end of next week.

Let's just say accommodation ain't cheap.

My understanding is that when people who wear monocles blow you, they become moderators. An intriguing prospect, but one I must ultimately decline.

In other news, Ballsack should take note: this is how you leave a message board.

I've a bunch of friends who are married young. What's the point? Some of them are in the military, which provides incentives to get married. Getting married for short-term financial gain must be one of the dumbest things you can possibly do; but I guess when you see dollar signs, a fancy car and a big ring at a young age, not much else matters. And I'm not kidding about the car talk: "oh, I knew this one couple who were getting separation pay, and you should have seen the car they were driving!". Jesus. Cars and soldiers mix about as well as oil and middle eastern dictators, except oil is at least a source of income for the dictators. Some of them, notwithstanding the military benefits, are of the high-flying type A personality: need to get a degree, need to get a man/woman who checks off all the right boxes, need a ring on the finger because that's how life is supposed to go.

The one who got married the youngest was rather into Orthodox Christianity, and there were powerful religious and cultural pressures for him and his girlfriend to get married young. Well, he was young, she was a few years older. And smoking hot. I give him credit for that. But I've tried having long conversations with people getting married and the discussions never answer what I want them to. They can't explain why they need a five-figure ring, they just give bullshit about "well in fifty years you'll look at the ring on your finger and realize how much so-and-so means to you...". I ask them how they can know that so-and-so is The One. They answer things they like about so-and-so, but to me it's an epistemological question. They (by which I should say "we") are too young and inexperienced to be capable of knowing, even if we think we do.

I'd say a minority of the married-youngs (two or three people) have enough life experience under their belt that I wouldn't question their motives. They've done things with their lives other than university, they're well into their mid-twenties, all that.

    I particularly like this video:

The obvious part is the typical feminist message of women being independent and having a job for its own sake. And that's a perfectly laudable thing, teaching young women the value of independence and how they shouldn't want to just have someone else pull them through life. But there's a subtle twist here, and I don't think the girl realizes she's done it. You should have a job (ideally a career) before you get married because you need to see that life is a pretty long haul. Philalawyer makes the point about law: you can suck it up and get through 3 years of law school no problem because it's a short term goal with a defined end point and a big, giant fucking carrot at the end of the stick. But actually practicing law, day in and day out, for the rest of your life with the end stage being retirement in 40 years? That's a whole different deal, actually living life. Being partway through your university education - which is, let's face it, the high school of 50 years ago - and declaring yourself old and wise enough to make that kind of decision is naive folly at best, and stupidity at worst.

Then again, I've never seen my parents so much as hold hands my whole life, so my views on marriage are a bit warped.

How about "hot-lap-in-the-Porsche" head? Not sure I'd be able to maintain my rhythm in the corners but I'd give it the old college try.

If you ever saw the violence of a hot lap, you'd know that there is no way in hell that I'd let my dick anywhere near anyone's mouth during a hot lap.

    World According To Garp indeed.

I feel a need to defend getting married young. Few things you should know:

    1) I am married (duh)
    2) I am 28, wife is 26
    3) We have been married almost 4 years (meaning we got married when I was 24 and she was 22). She was still in college at the time.
    4) We've been together since high school.

We got married because we wanted too and we felt it was the right time. Neither of us regret it. We were paying for her school, in as much as I was working full time and paying for our living expenses while she was going to school on student loans, which we're still repaying. There was no peer pressure from family or friends to get married or not get married, and it wasn't something we went into lightly. We discussed kids (2), religion (we'll go to her church regularly when we have kids, then let them choose whether or not they want to go anymore after they turn 16), money (she makes more money than me, always will, but we'll both work), and all the other pitfalls of marriage. We didn't go into it stupidly or blindly, and it wasn't something we rushed into.

Long story short? Yes, a lot of people who get married young are stupid, and half of them end up divorced. However, we're not ALL stupid, we don't all go into it lightly, and we're not all idiots.

FYI, Montreal would be shitty for me, as it's not like I'm there for the laughs. It's usually a 6am-11pm day, every day, and you're usually too wiped to go out and do anything. All you want to do is sleep.

Especially since we've go one of our clients there with us, and are supporting his car/effort as well. We basically have twice the work, and have to babysit on top of it.

No, look at the announcements in the User CP.

That thread is a cluster. We've already hit the old board of the old board.

Anyway, I think for the next day or so:

Oh. Then yes, I agree, they're idiots.

Like I said, there was no pressure from my friends and family, but when I used to tell strangers that I was married when I was still 24, I'd get looks of astonishment and people asking me if I was retarded for getting married so young. Family and friends were cool, but people I just met gave me shit. Very weird.
