Was determined to get to Bronze III yesterday. About 15 mins into the first qualifying match we're behind 3 kills. Our top gets pissy and goes AFK. Oh he didn't disconnect or anything, he simply stood on the fountain and shit-talked while we tried to win 4v5 for the next 10 minutes. What an asshole. Speaking of which, fuck people who play ranked and say "I don't know how to ADC/jungle/whatever" or "I don't own a support champ." Really? REALLY? You got all the way to 30 and didn't bother to purchase one champ of every role? And now you're playing ranked? Fuck you. And finally, fuck you Riot and your matchmaking. Had a team yesterday where three people had 4, 12, and 17 wins ranked. Someone on the other team had 4, and then no one else below 50. It was a frustrating day.
In a quest to play the contrarian to the champs I like, I wanted your take on the following. Don't dismiss it offhand, let it marinate for a bit before you poo poo it. Support Ashe. My build I've calculated out is pretty decent. Masteries are 9/0/21 Runes Q 2x lifesteal 1x movement M 9x Damage S 9x armor G 4x MR 5x CDR Items Normal support start building into Shurelya's Mikael's Frozen Mallet Zeke's BotRK Raudins/manamune So after level 6 is when things get really fun. I can spam volley every 2.5 seconds and constantly poke without ever running out of mana. I get my R every 48 seconds. After I build the FM, people can't run away between frost shot, volley and my AA. It basically keeps the enemy team from making any kind of push as they are constantly eating my volley and in turn we slowly just run them back until they are in their base. It's a very grinding type game, very little flash and hardly any big kills as I'm keeping all the enemies at a distance. Viable? Stupid? Situational?
Support Ashe is a thing. I can't remember specifics but it has been seen in professional play. It does require some coordination with your adc though. Strangers will probably think you're trolling. Also, just played an ARAM and rolled Lux. It was hilarious. 945 damage Lux ult on a 30s cooldown 20 minutes in. Got a penta at like level 8. After a night of being unable to carry my godawful teams in 3 normal games, it was definitely a good time.
I'm going to play an ARAM today. I think its about time, why the fuck not. I think I'm going to try to play ARAM, Dominion and 3v3 more, just to get some variety. I also might try a ranked game today and try to win. The weather is so shitty, and League is just so addictive.
Think I finally got my 10 ARAM wins for my Freljord icon. Really wish they had some kind of tracker so I didn't have to do it in my head. EDIT: Found out how to tell for certain. Open up summoner's icon menu. You'll see the icons of the 3 tribes. If you got your 10th win, the icon you chose will appear a 2nd time somewhere in the middle of the menu, without the little clock watermark on it.
ARAM is so much fun. I'd forgotten that this game could just be mindless fun. I haven't seen a single person rage in an ARAM game yet. I want to play summoners' rift but when I try and people are already trolling at champ select, my "fuck it ARAM" muscle gets all twitchy and I have to dodge. Then I play a 20 minute ARAM game, and have fun regardless of whether we win or lose. It's wild.
I keep disconnecting for some reason so I just decided to fuck it and dodge. Sorry Javane. I just don't want to be that asshole who lets himself join a game when he knows his connection isn't holding up that night.
I've only played like 8 games, but NO ONE TALKS in ARAM, so its less rage. Plus the games go side to side so easily, you have no idea who is winning or losing for real until the last second. What I can say is that it doesn't feel as satisfying when you win because you're really just throwing shit against a wall and hoping it works. Its fun, but its fun like a cheesy movie. No big deal man, I ended up taking the night off and playing Mass Effect 3. I'm almost done with it. Also, I betrayed myself, I played a ranked game two nights ago, and steamrolled. I thought I'd be cute and play a ranked game last night to see if I could get back in the game. Had to surrender at 20, as we got completely trolled by a Danish child. I wish it wasn't so soul crushing, its the feeling of helplessness that is just so pure and wrong.
Its awesome that custom sets are finally here, when it came down to actually creating them, I got fucking lazy about putting them in. I might have to take 30 minutes awhile eating to do it. I like you can name the boxes. Because mine are going to have great names. "Starting" "If you're getting raped." "If you're Boomraping" "If you're getting trolled" "Getting cocky?" Praises be to Jesus! The LA servers are closer to launching! No more "jajajajaja" being spoken as your carry tries to solo their bruiser. No more "jajajaja" anytime your tank runs in 3v1. No more "stfu noob, (insert spanish swears)" anytime you tell them to do anything that will help you win. YAY!
Just a note so you don't rage out of control, you have to click the save button before you leave the item set page or they all disappear. It doesn't prompt you either so make sure you always save.
I kept thinking, "Just wait until you get to ranked, the games will become much more organized and the player base will rise to higher levels of intelligence." Yeahhhhhhh..... It's even more maddening than playing in normal.
Have you read anything I've posted in the last 4 weeks about ranked? It's fucking brutal. Before not a lot of people play ranked because the stick and carrot wasn't as clear cut. So the people that played ranked really gave a fuck. Now people who don't give a fuck play ranked because now everyone wants pretty boarders and all that stuff. And those people fucking suck at basic tactics. I feel like they should impose a win limit on ranked. Like you need to have won 100 Summoners Rift Games at level 30 before being able to qualify for ranked. I still don't fucking understand how we're so far into Season 3 and there are people who don't ward as supports, don't buy Aegis, and just build AP when they don't have heals or aren't Sona/Taric/Nami. Come the fuck on.
Honestly, I blame the XP boosts you can purchase. I've seen level 30 people with something ridiculous like 30 wins or whatever.
Trolls everywhere... Is there a reason I get 9 points for a win and -23 for a loss? I don't understand how this whole point system works.
And PenetrationStation doesn't believe me when I tell him how bad Bronze is. He keeps telling me, and all these fuckers who never had to play in the dregs of Bronze just say "You have to be super aggressive." Yes, but that's your lane. No way you're going to win 1v5 unless the other team stood at base the entire time. When you play with these trolls that don't do THE MOST BASIC shit. It doesn't matter how good you are. When your team not only feeds your lane opponent, but hands over buffs, let towers blow, never take free objectives, and are always out of position, you're playing 9v1 and that shit is brutal. Its based on the elo of your opponents. In both cases you were playing against people you were projected to beat. So if A Gold person plays a team of bronze and low silver, they can loose like 75+ points.
I take a somewhat more pessimistic tack. I assume those people have lost 100+ games and only registered 30 wins on the way to level 30.
The elo of your team versus your opponents matters, whether you are Duo Q matters (although I can't say precisely how, but I think the higher ranked player has more to gain and more to lose versus the lower ranked member of the duo q), and the biggest factor is "elo clamping." I know for sure that this happens near the top ends of the brackets, like silver I, Bronze I, etc.., but it may happen near the top end of individual tiers. As you play games, if you win more often than you lose, your MMR (match made ranking) increases. If you lose more often than you win, your MMR decreases. If you go on a streak of winning five games in a row or something, but your MMR is significantly below where the normal outcome of +20 LP would leave you in elo, the system "clamps" your LP gains so that your LP does not rise too high above your MMR. This accomplishes two things 1) accounts for a system that never lets you drop divisions and 2) prevents meteoric rises and falls in elo. It's a steadying factor to prevent small sample sizes from skewing your elo. If you are losing more LP on losses than you gain on wins, your MMR is too low for you to advance. You just have to win games at a greater than 50% clip to increase your MMR and remove the clamp.
