The thing I love most about this episode is that it tossed out everyone's fears of the story turning into a God vs. Devil / Good vs. Evil storyline. Jacob proved their not dead, so they're not in hell. And you really can't say Jacob is good, how many lives has he tossed out the window bringing people to the Island, just so he can prove his point to the MiB about people being good? That's not his job, his job is be the cork that keeps MiB on the island. I loved that we now know what that white stone was that MiB tossed out into the water that Jacob had Ricardo give him. It's the little things in this show...
I don't think the MiB is the evil that the island is containing. I got the impression that Jacob and the MiB have some sort of guardian duality going on, and the MiB is sick of playing Cerberus. My theory is that they both have different, but neccessary roles that keep the evil contained. I think the MiB has come to the conclusion that it wouldn't matter if they let the evil loose, because people are already bastard covered bastards and the world wouldn't be any different if they did. Jacob disagrees, and is trying to prove his stance by bringing people to the island. If the MiB was the evil that the island was containing you would think that he would have been trying to kill Jacob for a lot longer the 150+ years since Richard arrived. I got the impression that the MiB's decision to go all Cain happened shortly before the Black Rock landed.
I was wondering how Widmore knows where the island is. He somehow knew its location when he sent the freighter there. However, the island has moved since then. And, based upon his downright frigid relationship with Eloise Hawking, the one person who could know it's location (The Lamp Post), it doesn't seem that she was going to tell him anytime soon. So how did he know in which direction to point his sub? I'm guessing it was Sun. Remember when Sun gave Widmore her card in London and proclaimed, "We have common interests."? And, later, when Widmore had her pulled away in the airport, she stated the common interest was to "kill Benjamin Linus." Now, I don't think offing Ben is the common interest anymore. However, the island certainly does tie them. Widmore wants to find the island, Sun wants to bring Jin back from the island. I'm guessing, after Eloise told Sun how to get back to the island (via the Ajira flight), Sun immediately called up Widmore and struck a deal with him: "I'll tell you how to get to the island if you can promise me safe passage back home with my husband, say, on a submarine." It's a win-win for both parties. Sun gets Jin back, Widmore gets the island back... maybe.
I give it a 0% chance that this isn't the case. I don't know about Hurley being the "winning candidtate", because apart from presumably being a sort of warden we don't know exactly what Jacob does, just that the island is the cork and that the candidates are supossedly for Jacob's replacement. I'm not on board with the entire series being a biblical metaphor, but if you look at Hurley there's some striking similarities to Job. He really is one without sin, yet throwing the first stone wouldn't cross his mind. He thinks he's cursed as his world falls apart around him but still is an all around good dude. He came back just because "Jacob told him to". Will that still be the case when/if Jacob says he's a test, a game piece? That Libby was?
Sun wanted Ben Linus dead because she blamed him for Jin's supposed death. When Ben was able to convince her that Jin was still alive (thanks to a ring Original Recipie Locke brought with him through time) that pretty much removed any motive she may have had with earning Charles Widmore's good graces. I think their loose alliance never really got off the ground, all things considered. Also, I can't imagine any way in which Sun would be able to leave bread crumbs for Widmore to follow anyway. The educated guess is that Widmore used the Lamp Post despite his cool relationship with Eloise (Desmond's shooting implied that she'd reached the end of whatever "wisdom" she may have been wielding); the real question is how or why Widmore wasn't able/allowed to use it in the past.
Well at least we know what the "package" behind the locked door. We were right. Spoiler So how does Desmond keep MiB on the island? This should be interesting.
Fuck yes you did, buddy. So are we to assume from the sappy Scottish bagpipe music in next week's promo that Desmond is kaput? I'll be very sorry to see him go. He's my favorite character.
Clearly not. I think it was just meant to let us know that it's a Desmond episode. i can't help but think next week is going to be fucking awesome.
Every Desmond episode is awesome. I hope he doesn't die. Claire and/or Kate should die though, like yesterday.
I know they did the shorter seasons to cut the filler out and stick to the story. But at this point, with only 7 episodes left, I kind of wish they did have a full 24 episode season and use the filler episodes to explain some of the things they will never get to (as opposed to bullshit like Jack's tattoos). Anyway, good episode. It's good to know that Sun wants a good dicking in the sideways world and that Desmond is (hopefully) about to fuck shit up. And it was good to see Mikhail again, even though he can never catch a break with that eye of his.
Smokey needs not only Jacob to be dead, but all the candidates to be gone from the island before he's officially uncorked. FLocke also seems to need the candidates to choose his side of their own free will, or he could have just carried Sun off.
That was my take too, although Doc Jensen seems to think FLocke needs to kill all the candidates, or at least see to it that they die (assuming he cannot kill them).
I can't stand Sun. I can barely stomach full Sun episodes. Having Sun bump her head and not be able to speak english has been one of the most frustrating things since the episode with the couple and the diamonds and Hurley's episode of repairing the van. Does anyone have an idea why the pilons prevent Flocke from getting in the area?
1) Smokey has never been able to pass through the sound barriers, we learned that pretty early on in the show. 2) Jacob said he would have someone to replace him so MiB wouldn't be able to leave. However if they are still candidates they haven't replaced them so if they leave the island that most likely means none of them would be replacing jacob hence MiB can leave. I get the feeling hes not allowed to kill the candidates.
So did Widmore know Desmond was special from the very beginning and he didn't want him fucking his daughter because he knew eventually he'd have a very important/dangerous role to play on the island, and he'd eventually have to seperate the two of them?
Juliet was more a specialist baby doctor than Jack to be honest. Another thing, Im going to go against what I said earlier and say Ben will end up on MiB's side. Now that Widmore is clearly Team Jacob, and with Ellana's verbal takedowns on Ben every 5 minutes, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he changed teams. It's also looking more and more likely that it was a major character that was shot in the other boat during the time flashes last season. There's going to be a lot of outrigger trips to the island it seems, so somebody could cop a bullet. I'm going to call Frank
The flaming arrows were 1950's version others. That was explained when 1950s Widmore (or a compatriot, I don't remember which) said that they heard the call to meet at the river during the attack. The boat shooting, on the other hand, I'm waiting for every goddamned episode. Smokey and Sayid were on the water this week (though Sayid was only on the boat for a limited time). We're gonna see when that happened when we see someone get on the boat with an Ajira water bottle. That tells me it's most likely Fake Tina Fey and crew that gets shot. The question is, do they have someone we care about on board. Jin, for instance. This isn't a spoiler, Darlton said not everyone was gonna live a year ago, I think it's time for some of our mains to die. There's only so many eps left, and I think their deaths would be more meaningful in a one on one than a mass killing. I'm calling it now. In the next three eps, at least two main characters will kick it.
Sweet Jescob let it be Kate. Apart from possibly motivating Sawyer, which is fucking lame and frankly irritating after the Juliet blowup, when was the last time she was of any use whatsoever? I'm tired of her cuntly indecision fucking with my shirtless hero's mojo. Also, if MiB just needed to see the candidates dead that could have been arranged easily enough several times over, even without him being able to do the deed himself. Claire/Sayid don't seem like they'd be that opposed to it right now. I'm thinking Flocke is not the evil to be contained but maybe a part of a warden duality. I can't recall what story I'm remembering specifically but I don't think the theme of an ageless guardian who can't rest until they find a replacement is unique anyways. What I'm saying is, isn't it completely possible that Flocke does just want to leave, that he's tired of his job, and that replacing Jacob fucks all that up?
One of my friends suggested this theory to me and I feel like it is worth writing down. He thinks that when Sun hit her head, part of her consciousness from the flash-sideways world entered into the current timeline. Seeing as she didn't know English in the sideways timeline, it could be true. He didn't really elaborate and I can't imagine that being the case, but I think its worth throwing out there.
