A couple things this episode left me thinking about: the significance of the jewelry box that was left to Claire, especially how the camera seemed to focus on the mirror aspect of it, and also, in the sideways-world, while Locke was asleep in the hospital when Jack was checking on him, Locke said something to the effect of "push the button ... I wish I hadn't left you" (is that right? I haven't had a chance to rewatch yet). That struck me as ... odd. Thoughts?
I'm pretty sure he said "I wish you had believed me," which is what he wrote to Jack shortly before his death.
So I was right from the beginning, Jack is the Candidate and will be the next Jacob. Amazing episode, next one should answer a lot!
HELL FUCK YES The finale has been expanded to 2.5 hours, apparently it was announced on Kimmel last night. There's going to be a clip show on the 23rd from 7-9, then there's going to be the finale from 9-11:30, then a Kimmel special Aloha to Lost or some shit. http://news-briefs.ew.com/2010/05/04/lo ... alf-hours/ And had a gun held to her head. Again. When the box was opened it played "catch a falling star." Which is a song that Christian used to sing to Claire in the original timeline when she was a baby. I believe in the original timeline she had talked about her father giving her a musicbox that played that song. But in the timeline the two had never met when Claire's mom was in the hospital. Remember that whole plot about how Charlie saw the original timeline when he nearly died, and then Desmond saw the original timeline when he nearly died? And then Desmond ran down Locke in order to make him see the original timeline too? That's sort of been the obvious place the show was driving, however we still have 3 candidates left alive, and I'm still thinking it might wind up being Hurley.
Ok, so Flocke can't just turn into the smoke monster and kill them, he has to blow them up? That was his plan the whole time to get them all together?? I'm pretty sure that the watch Lock took off that guys wrist would not respond or have the feature to count down time super fast if the wires were disconnected. Awesome, awesome episode. If Sayid hadn't ran the bomb to the back do you think it would have blown? Stupid Sun should have made Jin leave because someone has to raise their little girl, but the scene was touching nonetheless, and that is coming from a guy who couldn't stand Sun. Where is CW, Ben and Alpert? Amazing episode, genuine emotion and a fantastic ride. Locke and Jack's back and forth in the alternate reality was excellent as well.
Gee, I'm sure you were the only one that guessed Jack. I had been guessing Bernard the whole time so I guess you got me.......................
I don't think it would have blown if they didn't touch it, but since Sawyer messed with it that put it in the "kill each other" case Jack was talking about. So if it would have just stayed in the bag or nobody messed with it, it probably would have stopped like the dynamite. Flocke figured with Sayid and Sawyer on board, one of them would mess with it and make it their problem.
Wait, what show are you watching? He can't kill them. That's why Jack said not to pull the wires out. The creepy kid said he can't kill them, remember? He also couldn't kill Jacob. You have to assume these people are safe because they're candidates. Dynamite not blowing up after Jack lit it ring a bell?
I'm watching the same show as you, why did he put them into a sub with a backpack of c-4 if he couldn't kill them?? I didn't catch on that he was banking on them screwing with bomb or that one of them would run to the back of the sub. I guess you got that right away?? I remember the dynamite not exploding however I'm pretty sure the c-4 blew up last night. I guess I see the point that they screwed around with the bomb killing each other, or rather Sayid killed himself?? I didn't think it was close to that easily explained.
If you want to get all nitpicky, start with the fucking submarine that apparently only needs one guy to operate it. Christ, some kayaks aren't even that easy to drive. And call me silly, but I refuse to believe Jin is dead. If this show has shown us anything, it's that Jin-Soo Kwon is one INCREDIBLY hard motherfucker to kill. He's survived raft explosions, freighter explosions, ill-advised paramilitary missions and a slew of other deadly encounters that would take the life of the average round-eye just to give death the metaphorical middle finger each time. But, if he is dead, it's only because Jin decided it was time to take a knee in the backfield and run out the clock. Of course, I don't blame him; if I had to choose between dying and living in a world where Kate Austen simply won't die I'd go down with the boat, too.
Jack explained it in the scene. He said that Locke wasn't allowed to kill them, and that the only way that bomb would go off would be if they messed with it, making it so that they were effectively killing each other. Flocke had to manipulate them into it, like he did Ben into killing Jacob. It was all part of the exposition of the scene. Not sure where Widmore is, but Benn, Miles, and Alpert are all likely on Hydra island somewhere after being the ones who actually planted the C4 on the plane. What makes you say that? Sayid saying "It's going to be you, Jack"? Pretty sure he was talking about the fact that Jack was going to have to be the one to pull Des from the well, seeing as he himself was about to be little tiny pieces of Sayid. Of course, I'm still putting the odds at Jack 90%, Hurley 9%, Sawyer 1%. You're silly. What with the whole "Jin and Sun's hands locked together underwater minutes after the compartment had flooded, then slowly drifting lifelessly apart" thing. You know, just sayin. At least we won't have anymore fucking awful Jin and Sun themed episodes.
Dude, this guy has cheated death more times than Ted McGinley's acting career. If anyone is going to end up shoving an unexpected souvenier dagger through Smokey's chest I'm betting on the Korean guy. I'm just saying...
They never got the silent clock so you don't know if they're dead or not. Oh wait, wrong show. I agree, NO MORE AWFUL SUN/JIN episodes. Thank god. I still think Hurley will be the final candidate. I think this is just a ploy to make you think that Jack will be the candidate. They wouldn't have had that much buildup with Hurley to say, "nope, you're not going to be it". He's the one who sees all the ghosts, I think it's gotta be him. JJ and crew are just playing Houdini with us now, misdirection, misdirection, misdirection. I'd expand more but I'm at work and far too lazy.
Whoa now, I don't believe that was the work of Ben, Alpert or Miles for the simple fact that I can't conceive of where they would get C4 from. My thinking is that Widmore put it there.
Sawyer messing with the bomb would have been him killing them all, but as we found out with Jack and Alpert with the dynamite, you can't kill yourself either. I'm thinking that without Sayid taking the bomb and running away, it wouldn't have exploded, since Sawyer can't directly cause his own death. And unless I missed something, how did Locke know that there were survivors from the sub?
Would it have been in bad taste if they played "yellow submarine" at the end of the episode?? I think Flocke knew that there were survivors because if he kills them all he will feel "something" that would allow him to leave the island. We never really knew which Kwon was a candidate did we?
I'm guessing that in the event all the remaining candidates were killed something cataclysmic would happen, since it didn't Locke knows someone lived through it. Nope, though it would be oddly hilarious if it was in fact Ji Yeon who was the candidate Kwon.
