if you're out in a group, armed, after curfew, and not a cop, then you're a problem that deserves to be handled quickly and without fucking around. if they get shot by or otherwise interact violently with the cops, they've got nobody to blame but themselves when they come out on the losing end. darwin in action, if you ask me.
no good outcome has ever come out of defying police directly, especially when you're already in violation. like arguing with an umpire, the defiant one loses every time. there's always tomorrow to protest, get some sleep even.
that has nothing to do with the current situation in ferguson, or what i was talking about. there are tons of videos of cops acting improperly, especially around senior government officials, and it's not at all the same thing. i don't see this guy in the video you posted (a) being out after curfew in a place where a state of emergency has been declared, (b) part of a group, or (c) armed, as was mentioned in the report. if he was, fucking rights there would be some serious felony stop, tazer, bean bag, rubber bullet, attack dog action going on, and i'd be ok with it. if you try and provoke a response in such a heightened environment, don't be surprised when you get one. let's try and stay on topic and at least within spitting distance of a relevant context.
ahh... totally missed that, and didn't recognize the video, and didn't feel like watching any more than the first 3 seconds of it.
latest i heard was that there is now a kkk rally planned for that town in missouri. my wife's naive response to this news summed it up quite accurately: "there's still the kkk? i thought they were gone. that's not illegal yet?"
i think it is also important to keep in mind the context. the koreans during the watts riots largely went unscathed because of the fact they were armed.
agreed, and there's the now famous "nike double ak" pic floating around as well of the shop owner that was in front of his store protecting it from being looted. (edit: just saw it's the same guy as the pic posted). http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/08/16/th ... guns-lack/ i have absolutely no problem with that whatsoever. the impression i have from the twitter/news articles is that there were groups of armed men out walking around, which, to me, is a totally different thing.
an interesting twist in events i haven't taken the time to search out other sources but this seems to changes things a little. if this is true; he scuffled with a cop, ran, was told to freeze, turned and charged the officer whose weapon was drawn. mind you, mr. brown is reportedly nfl offensive tackle-ish in size. this whole thing just seems stupid to me. why walk down the middle of the road? why curse and disrespect people over something as simple as jay-walking? why escalate a jay-walking scenario to a physical altercation? why fight back against the cops? why not stop when told to stop? why charge a cop with a weapon drawn? why not taze this guy? wyrd bið ful aræd
i have zero doubts there are armed people out in the streets looking for trouble. i'm curious to see photos of how big these groups are. i like seeing these photos so i can see comparisons between watts and katrina for example.
national guard has been deployed by the governor. http://bigstory.ap.org/article/police-deploy-tear-gas-impose-ferguson-curfew this is a good way to get your dumb ass shot just like netdata said.
the narrative is beginning to make more sense. a corrupt police department shot young man who probably was a thug in real life. despite the very real probability that mike brown did rob a store, intimidate and threaten a store clerk, and then go on his way, his shooting was enough spark to ignite a tinder box of anger and frustration in this community. the bigger picture, and the one that i'm happy to see come to light, is the increasingly militarized police presence in our country. it is no secret that the leo complex in ferguson has done little to help. they have attempted to shut down the media. they have escalated the problem to no-end. the confrontational nature of the police has lead even the most ardent pacifists (the police are here to help) to question the nature of law enforcement in a country that is feeding local police departments munitions and other equipment as quickly as it can be reclassed and repainted. the comparison to ferguson to iraq or afghanistan is pretty damn real. it wasn't too long ago when i was accused by at least one board member of wanting to "murder" the police because i have speculated that someone will eventually justifiably kill a corrupt leo and the leo will deserve it.
except the fact the police came out and said his shooting had nothing to do with the robbery, the guy that shot him didn't know anything about the robbery. so the narrative isn't making any sense. glad that everyone is taking away from this story the whole military police complex problem. all the white people in america are just so constantly being harassed by the police. all the white people just being stopped and frisked in the street randomly. all the white people getting shot in the middle of the street and the police covering it up! oh wait... the bigger problem here, the one that should be focused on is the racism that even allows people to think that the takeaway from this incident is the militarization of the police force. hello! there is a portion of our population that can get shot and killed (unarmed) in the middle of a street, then left there to rot for hours. and how does the autopsy make the friend's story bullshit? the guy said the police started shooting at him, then he stopped, turned around with his hands up and kept getting shot. also if his friend's story is bullshit, the one thing michael brown didn't have is a weapon and/or the need to get shot in the head. where is this military police complex taking place by the way? i live in the middle of the goddamn city of chicago, third largest city in the world, and probably has a large police budget as well. the only time i've seen more than three police cars was at dunkin donuts, during lollapalooza (or other city event), police station parking lot, and this time my single white female friend's purse got stolen. why does this seem to be such a big deal in the smaller rural areas than the larger cities? never once heard anyone from an urban area discuss about the militarization of police. hell, i wish we could get militarized police on the south/southwest side of chicago to fix the gang problem down there. the longer this story goes on the angrier i get, not at what's actually going on with the situation (because its the same goddamn shit), but all of the reactions to it. it took 30 seconds for the real issue of this story to get covered in layers and layers of distracting dog shit because people can face racism. this thread is the perfect example of it. it took what? 2 posts before everyone was sounding like dixiebandit and "oh my god police state!" "militarization of the police!" i had to physically walk away from a girl because she was freaking out about the fact a white journalist from the washington post was detained for 45 minutes. "oh my god! did you hear about that reporter?!?! the police took him to a room had him sit down for 45 minutes with no explanation! police state! police state!" seriously, this militarization of the police is a what people are afraid of? they're afraid of an army of goddamn police with apcs, sniper rifles, riot gear etc... fuck that noise. there are a people currently who are afraid of one goddamn police officer with baton and a 9mm. there are a people who have to be currently afraid of a police officer with arms that can put a dude in a goddamn choke hold! oh we forgot that story already?!? of course, its been a week and he was black. how about we focus on the shit that happened in the first goddamn place? how about that? let's stop the police from beating up, shooting up and killing our minority population. also let's fix the underlying problem that leads to that. then we can tackle the next problem.
not really, it could very well just mean he was slightly wrong about details when there was shooting going on around him. it still doesn't explain why the body was 30 feet away, or contradict johnson's claim that "brown turned around with his hands in the air and said, "i don't have a gun. stop shooting!" the officer then shot brown several more times, killing him." it's seems a bit much to expect someone in the middle of a firefight to be 100% accurate regarding which bullets landed where.
hahahaha. the world tries to be empathetic and you are too eaten up with bearing your cross to realize it. of course race is an issue! what part about police corruption did you miss? let the spotlight focus on asshole cops and see where it goes. you may like the outcome.
because your post was drenched in empathy, my equally sincerest apologies for missing it. i caught everything about the police corruption, but its interesting how the police corruption doesn't lead to any white kids shot in the street and left for hours. so maybe the police corruption isn't the core problem.
