In other news, the Mariners picked up Adam Lind. Yippee. At least he tends to usually have at least a .300 OBP most years. Oh yeah, and Wade Miley, at least he'll eat up innings and could possibly put up decent numbers at Safeco.
Cubs sign Jason Heyward for whats rumored to be 7 years and under $200MM. Great value and that shrieking sound you hear is the "Best Fans in Baseball" screaming and wailing and calling him a traitor and money hungry. This has been a fantastic offseason for the Cubs, if they can find another reasonably priced arm for the end of the rotation, my word.
Cocaine. It's a helluva drug. Autopsy shows Tommy Hanson died from cocaine, alcohol http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14343994/autopsy-shows-tommy-hanson-died-cocaine-alcohol
The Cubs are fast becoming my second-preferred team to win it all (next to My Beloved Yankees of course) simply because Cardinals fans will go INSANE if that happens.
Yowza. Reds deal closer Aroldis Chapman to Yankees http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14454106/reds-deal-closer-aroldis-chapman-yankees
HOUSTON -- Hall of Famer Monte Irvin, a power-hitting outfielder who starred for the New York Giants in the 1950s in a career abbreviated by major league baseball's exclusion of black players, has died. He was 96. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14556678/monte-irvin-hall-fame-slugger-dies-age-96
About a month old, but I'm putting it up anyway because fuck Pete Rose: http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2015/12/30...te-rose-finally-gets-his-appeal-and-loses-it/ One more time! http://sportsworld.nbcsports.com/set-the-record-straight/
So, the Nationals signed Murphy and Cespedes. It's like they just whacked the Mets in the face with a penis.
I've seen they've made Cespedes an offer, but it makes no sense. Where would they play him? They've got Harper, Werth, and Revere in the OF already.
Braves eliminated from playoff contention in 4 games this year. I'm actually glad I don't live in the area because I'd be really tempted to go to the stadium and start punching front office people.
I will say I'm mighty tempted to take a trip down there just to go to this event: Chipper Jones and Freddie Freeman "Chipper Rescues Freddie" ATV Bobblehead Might have to look on ebay afterwards to get one.
The Nats also have Ben Revere. A move that somewhat pissed me off, I LOVED the guy as a lead-off man for the Jays. A clutch base-hitting lefty. I think the Jays are again a serious contender, fucked if I can predict it right now. I can only cheer it on and hope.
ESPN has some fun articles re-imagining baseball. Today they looked at international markets. 32 teams would make a lot scheduling sense; 4 divisions champs, no wildcards, no constant interleague play. So I took a swing at adding Tokyo and Mexico City AL North – Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Minnesota AL East – New York, Boston, Baltimore, Cleveland AL South – Texas, Houston, Tampa Bay, Kansas City AL West – Anaheim, Seattle, Oakland, Tokyo NL North – Chicago, Milwaukee, St Louis, Cincinnati NL East – New York, Washington, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh NL South – Mexico City, Atlanta, Miami, Arizona NL West – San Francisco, Los Angeles, Colorado, San Diego
I just can't see Tokyo as its a travel NIGHTMARE. People complain about London as a potential NFL destination due to the travel, and that would be a walk in the park for a league that plays once a week compared to a 12 hour flight to Tokyo with far more time changes. One or more Mexican cities make sense. Bit longer flights than currently, but time changes are in line. San Juan also makes a lot of sense if PR can ever figure itself out economically.
