dude.jpg There's a guy behind home plate in St Louis who is wearing a blonde rocker wig, mirrored sunglasses and a striped tank top. I'm not sure if he's trying to be funny or that's just a Cardinals fan.

    $42m, isn't it?
21 for this and 21 for next season?

    Fuck ARod.

    This is happening in Cleveland:

    1st Inning
Machado homered to center, Kim scored.
    2nd Inning
Machado homered to left, Jones and Kim scored
    3rd Inning
Machado homered to left center, Jones scored

    After 3 innings he's 3-3, 3 HR, 7 RBI

Meh. When he hits two grand slams in one inning like Fernando Tatis did, let me know.

ARod had already collected 15 million this year from the Yankees. He is still owed something like 6 million for this year and the 21 million for next year. I just wish he had a longer contract to drain the Yankees even further.

Ah. I just meant total for this season (and his lack of productivity) and next.

I need to make a trip to philly to hit that ballpark. We've gone to Baltimore and DC for those parks...need to hit at least one more before we leave this coast.

Until yesterday, it was just as rare as Tatis' feat:

"According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the only other player to hit three homers in the first three innings of a game was Carl Reynolds on July 2, 1930"

Obviously I don't live in Texas so I hardly have a representative sample, but you're the first Texans fan I've ever heard say that. Am I just hearing the dickheaded minority, or am I right to think that your position is kinda rare?

I just hear relentless badmouthing of him for his injuries (missed 40% of all games), contract (absurd), poor performance (0.4 WAR over three years), and their belief that all this happens because he's lazy and fat.

Fuck Hal Steinbrenner more though. They didn't have to sign him to such a stupid contract, and not letting him get to 700 when the Yankees have no shot at the playoffs is just plain vindictive. As a Red Sox fan I've obviously taken my fair number of shots at him over the years, but finishing at 696 after only being allowed a smattering of at bats all year just feels wrong. Maybe it's just that I have less of an anti-steroids boner than most.

Arod loves him some Arod. Won't he just "special assistant" his way through this year and next, then sign to the highest bidding non-contender in 2018 after the All-star break? He won't get into the HoF any faster than Bonds, so eligibility is moot. He can play 80 games and hit 4 homers, and that lousy team gets the attendance boost as he tries for 700.

He'd be 42-43 at the time, and hit .204 this year. He's toast. It's probably unlikely that anyone wants to give him the at bats.

you're hearing a very vocal minority.
I criticize the contract because it was a bad one. JD is usually very good at these things but...eh. That's not on Prince.
There's a stretch last year he carried the team with his bat. When his power and contact dropped this year i knew he was injured again.

A c-spine injury is no joke. Anyone whose critical should try it sometime.
But yes. There are the ass clowns who blame it on his weight and work ethic. They're ass clowns.

What you're saying makes sense, and you're probably right. However, this is Arod. He won't have a bunch of "alumni" events to go to because he's not loved, and he won't get in the HoF. What will he be thinking about in two years? He'll be thinking, man, I'm going to die with nothing but a weird, tarnished legacy. I wish I at least had 700 home runs attached to my name.

As much as I dislike ARod, this is spot on. It doesn't surprise me though....look at Canseco and Bonds. They both had something left and no team would touch them. I'm pretty sure Canseco could've made it to 500 HR's, but no one wanted him to reach that number. Bonds could've padded his ridiculous numbers for some team...his last season he had a .480 OBP, a 1.045 OPS and 28 HR's. And no one wanted him? Yeah right.

The only consolation in all of this is that it's costing the Yankees a fuck ton of cash and making them look like real assholes. Something that potential free agents might look at and think "Are they going to pull this same shit with me?"

Let him hit his 4 HR's and then shuffle him off to the bus leagues for the rest of his career.

I agree that this seems vindictive, but I can't imagine it influencing free agents to not come to the Yanks. They typically don't treat their players any worse, or any better, than any other team. And you have to factor in what a huge douche ARod has been over the past 13 years. Twice caught for using steroids, he sued everyone he could two years ago, including the Yankees, the team doctor, and the players union. All to cover up his own lies about his involvement with steroids. He threw his cousin under the bus to save his own skin. He has been a massive, yet talented, asshole since his arrival. Look at the bush league stuff he pulled in the Red Sox series in 2004.

To attempt to draw parallels between Arod's relationship with the Yankees and how they would treat anyone else is ridiculous.

Suppose he gets 6-8 at bats between now and Friday. How funny would it be if he got 2 home runs? Or, 3? He hit a HR as recently as the middle of July and did have back-to-back games with a HR in April this year. It's very, very unlikely (especially since may not get any at bats), but that would be some hilarious drama for sure.

Agreed. ARod created his own problems with his behavior. He's a giant dick, and he's reaping what he's sown.

I personally wish he didn't exist at all. What an absolute shitstain, I could care less about how good of a player he is. Good riddance to the Lance Armstrong of baseball.

Eh, I have mixed feeling about A-Rod. On one hand, no sane person can deny he's a douche, despite the last 1.5 years or so of acting like a model citizen. On the other hand, I have this tendency to defend supposed "cheaters" from all the hypocritical bullshit that gets flung at them*. I do like how the Yankees are FINALLY getting into rebuild mode, and am really looking forward to them hopefully not fucking it up in the next couple of years.

*Barry Bonds being a prime example; the way he got blackballed was Bullshit with a capital B. As ToyToy alluded to in an earlier post, Bonds's last year playing he put up numbers more or less synonymous with Mike Trout's rookie year. And Bonds was willing to play for the league minimum. Could you imagine all the GM fighting it out to sign a veteran with Trout's numbers for the league minimum? But magically there was "no interest." A goddamn shame.
