All Toronto wanted to do was beat Texas, so their season has been a success!

The Indians radio guy was amazeballs last night talking about Bats and how he used to be a home run king and now all he is is a king of whining.

    And I laughed.

    Ain't going to happen.

"While actor Charlie Sheen, who played Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughn in the movie "Major League" offered to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before one of this year's World Series games, Major League Baseball said the choices have already been made."

    No marbles.

Two teams with serious championship droughts is a great World Series. I hope the Cubs can finally end it (still not over). I think the have the best fans in the MLB, and I think no team deserves it more.

Agreed. Cubs offence vs. Indians incredible pitching (they spanked Toronto batters in the ALCS) is going to be great. But they have good vice-versa as well. I haven't been this excited for a World Series since 1993.

I hope they get to fly the W. Nothing against Cleveland, but I want this to happens for the Cubs. I love their fans, and I picked them to win it before the season began.

Then again, winning the pennant is a HUGE victory. I remember going just as berzerk the first time the Jays won the American title as I did when they won the WS back in 1992.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that it looks like Schwarber is going to be on the Cubs' WS roster. We'll know around 10 AM when rosters have to be submitted.

Kenny Lofton will throw out the first pitch. That's cool, he got absolutely hosed in HoF voting. Once on the ballot and gone. I still think his career makes a strong case for being in Cooperstown.

    EDIT: mlb.com confirms it:

Schwarber on Series roster, may DH in G1

Its more remarkable that the Indians pitching has been so good when its come from pitchers that weren't expected to star. Lets hope there is a regression to the mean.

Winning the pennant was ENORMOUS, but unlike last year, where that alone would have been euphoria, the city just wants it all. Saturday night we went apeshit for about 30 min, but then were like "4 more". Should be an amazing series. Dream world is the Cubs clinching in 5 on Sunday night at Wrigley. But realistically I want to say Cubs in 6.

The added issues is I have a TON of friends from Cleveland due to my college years. And they went from fun sports fans to talk and commiserate with to arrogant fucking morons with the Cavs and now Indians. One actually told me the Cubs are overrated and they can't see them winning more than 1 game against a superior roster. That was actually said without sarcasm or joking...

Schwarber is a fantastic story. And I like it. Its low risk, high reward for me. Don't have to worry about his rust in the field, he's been with the team in the dugout, in the locker room the whole year, so its not a chemistry issue. If he's not seeing the ball well or he's behind on speed due to his time out, then they may a change going forward. At best he's hitting the cover off the ball like we're used to.

Dear God, talk about price gouging:

"A number of Wrigleyville bars are looking to take advantage of the expected crowds by offering food and drink packages that run several hundred dollars each, as well as implementing cover charges that also run more than $100.

Casey Moran’s, across Clark Street from Wrigley Field, is charging $250 for an appetizer, dinner entree and drinks from 7 p.m. until 10:45 p.m., according to Kim Smith, the bar’s office manager.

The food and drink package, though, does not include a table to sit at. A four-person table runs an additional $500. A group of four who wanted to eat, drink and be guaranteed a place to sit would split the $1,500 bill four ways.

Those not interested in the food and drink packages still must pay $100 to get in the door, and that cover charge is expected to go up as the weekend nears, Smith said."

Do these people realize it's free to watch the World Series on the TV?

That's not price gouging. that's market opportunity. Gouging is when you take advantage of people that are trying to buy every day living items, like gas and food. Those places will need more staff and security, and also are charging for their proximity to Wrigley. Yes, you can watch the Woodstock video, but it's nothing like having been there. And, if you can't get in to Wrigley, being next door is the next best thing for the communal experience. Plus, it may be another 108 years before the Cubs are winners again, so this may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Those are pretty valuable.

In 1992, when the Braves played the Pirates in the NLCS, and Sid Bream famously slid in on Cabrera's hit, I was at the game. I was a poor college student at the time, and had gotten a free ticket from my dad. Somebody offered me $500 for the ticket as I was walking to the stadium. I am so glad I turned that down. Then, after the game, I partied in the mob scene in Buckhead afterwards, with people hanging from billboards and doing the chop and rocking good times. Lots of people saw that game on TV and the news coverage of the mob scene. That was nothing like being there. (I was also with my dad at the deciding game 6 in the 1995 World Series, which was also on free TV. Now that my dad is gone, I would have gladly paid $500 to create those memories.)

Its bullshit however you want to phrase it. Coming as a Chicago resident and a HUGE Cubs fan, Wrigleyville has always been predatory bullshit. Order a beer for $5 and the next one might be $7. Its all predicated on taking advantage of idiots from out of town or the suburbs. Its fun for random games to drink before and after, but I avoid it like the plague otherwise.

One of the bigger bars, Old Crow, is NOTORIOUS for throwing covers on a whim for no reason but to extract extra revenue. I went there for a Blackhawks playoff game one year and midway through the afternoon they tossed a $10 cover on for no reason other than they had a line. They were charging $20 for Game 6 last week and the POS bar across the street was charging $60. The fact that they are charging $100 covers for a non-clinching game is fucking stupid. Food and drink packages that are price inflated? Thats fine, thats just smart. But covers and table taxes? (One dive bar is charging a $50/hour table charge in addition to cover and food and drink costs).

I'll be finding a bar within a few blocks, which still will be packed, that will let me migrate near Wrigley if need be, for celebration.

Kind of like how you and I can buy the exact same car, but pay different prices, depending on how much bullshit we accept from the salesman? I just mean it wasn't specifically "gouging," even if they are being dicks. And, that watching it on TV is a totally different experience for World Series games, which has higher, often unquantifiable value. I don't have any Wrigleyville experience, so I'll take your word for it, though, if they're extra dicky there.

I went to the bar kitty-corner from the front entrance of Wrigley (Cubby Bears I think?) we have a fun time there, but it was not during baseball season.

No Schwarber in LF at Wrigley for the WS, the doctor did not clear him to play defense today.

    Bummer.
