You could always just... not go there, and not pay the covers. I can't for the life of me decipher a phrase like " throwing covers on a whim for no reason but to extract extra revenue.... for no reason other than they had a line." That's literally why any bar, anywhere, ever has a cover.
Or if there is a band or other entertainment that is getting a cut of the door. Chicago isn't a city with a lot covers. Honestly, even a lot of the "clubs" in River North don't even have covers. Some bars do, its well established. When a cover appears out of nowhere, at a bar you've been to 10 times before in similar situations and there is no cover, its a WTF moment. I'm sure some people won't go and pay the covers, some will. It will be the first time I won't be watching a big Cubs game in Wrigleyville, oh well. But continue to be an arrogant prick about the topic. Yea, its a decent spot, iconic for sure. They actually had a $100 cover last weekend and it was still crowded. Nothing is changing for this weekend.
If people do pay they're not being unreasonable. They're maximizing profits. Being in a bar isn't the same as buying gas. It sucks, but it's completely reasonable.
Thats a fair point. I'm just annoyed thats all. And MoreCowbell, apologies for snapping above. I'm just sick of everything around this. Despite being a diehard Cubs fan, I kind of hate Wrigleyville, but you embrace it when the Cubs are rolling cause its fun. And now at the GREATEST point in my Cubs life, Wrigleyville is just reminding me why it sucks and why I normally avoid it. And then having people, who dont go to bars to begin with, be like "this is why I dont go to bars/watch games on my couch/etc..." It just needs to be Friday night already.
The Weather Service is predicting the wind blowing out to right at 15-20 with gusts to 40 at Wrigley tonight. Good times.
Then Heyward over Schwarber is probably the right play even if he had been medically cleared. Which, by the way, what exactly might an outfielder do that his knee is not ready for that a baserunner couldn't? (Not questioning the doctor, just don't know the answer) He had to change direction and hustle back to second the other night, and handled that okay. Are they worried the repaired ligaments wouldn't hold up to another collision or something? I figured the start-stop, base rounding, lateral changes on the base paths was more taxing.
From my understanding, another collision is exactly what they're worried about. I'm with you thinking running the bases would probably be harder on the legs then playing defense though.
So Jose Fernandez died while legally intoxicated and with cocaine in his system. Imagine that, a person from Miami with coke in their system. On a boat.
I have 0 doubt Maddon knows what he's doing, but why pull Lester there for Edwards? Lester was pitching really well. Stay with Ross batting, who has taken some good cuts, and then pinch hit for Lester in the 7th. Have Edwards/Montgomery ready if Lester gets in trouble. Then go Chapman to finish it off. But, that's why he gets paid the big bucks. In Maddon we trust.
HOLY SHIT HERE WE GO. GAME 7, 2 Cy Young winners on the mound. This is going to be nuts. I cant breath already. Lets go Cubbies.
John Smoltz should get a special award. This time of year, usually everybody is talking about how Joe Buck is the worst. Smoltz is doing a really good job of tempering his awfulness. When he fills in commentary, he fills the space so nicely that Buck doesn't have time to prattle on.
If the Cubs lose this game it going to be all on Maddon. I've never seen so many questionable moves. EDIT: From my keyboard to God's ears. Shit.
And here comes the tarp. Of fucking course. And Maddon is still a fucking idiot. Suicide squeeze on a 3-2? What the fuck?
It was a safety squeeze, but still dumb. Baez had a much better chance of hitting a fly ball to the outfield.
Wow, what a series. There is no better GM in baseball than Theo Epstein. Ok so he's not the GM, but we all know he put this team together. I'm a Yankees fan, but I have nothing but respect for Epstein.
