My guess would be, because most of them are in Thailand where if you're gonna fight you'll be doing it in Muay Thai. While MMA is popular in many countries around the world there's still places where people for the most part don't really know what it is. Sure a lot of these guys have great standup but where in thailand are you going to learn wrestling/grappling? That's why and i'm purely speculating without any research here, I bet if you looked in K1 you'd see a lot of Thai guys. I also bet if you give it a couple of years you'll see some guys transfer over. It just has to be made worth their while to go from being paid fairly well fighting in the most popular sport in Thailand to taking time off and training to get paid less fighting in Japan for example.

Also until recently 155 was the smallest weightclass in the UFC and a lot of these guys would have trouble getting that big.

All feels right now that Sonnen got TKO'd. Him champion would be like Dana Carvey's Ross Perot being President

(I was sorta tanked by the time the fight was on, so some of this might not be factually correct)

I'm torn. I love me some Silva, and he's amazing to watch. But as soon as the fight started, I was screaming for Sonnen, and I don't know why. Chael beat the shit outta Silva in the first round, and then in the second he tries a spinning back kick and falls over, and then it was over.
So...... I kinda feel like Silva got handed the fight, and Sonnen was a stupid dick who shoulda stuck to the game plan that he used in the first round.

Once again. I have no idea why I was rooting for Sonnen. I don't really like him, and I really like watching Silva. He's amazing. I guess I just wanted someone to actually challenge Silva for a couple of rounds.

Sidenote: What the fuck was Griffin doing after the fight, running out of the ring like that? Everyone in the place knew that he won. Did he think he lost? What the fuck? Even my Fiance was perplexed.

This is a pretty old video, but I randomly stumbled on it today. I've seen his book in stores, but I didn't realize that Forrest Griffin is hilarious in interviews. His assessment of fighting Silva is awesome.

Why have I never heard of mmacandy before?
Where do I find girls like this?
How do I kidnap them given they are physically stronger and better trained than I am?
What do I do with this erection while at work?

    This is a bit late.

Did anyone else watch the fights on saturday? I mean the one where BJ Penn and Shogun Rua completely crushed my dreams. Also, Henderson completely destroying fuckwad Diaz.

Side note: Moving to Long Island for a few months, looking for a place to train with a lady friend. Was looking at Serra BJJ, Ray Longo's, and NY Top Team, in that order. If anyone has any feedback on any of these schools, I would be super grateful.

I still watch every card. Fuck the Diaz brothers. How much of a piece of shit do you have to be to repeatedly taunt your opponent with a middle finger[causing the broadcast to cut out every time you do it] while getting your ass kicked for 25 minutes? I don't have a problem with a little trash talk but not to that extreme and not when you're losing. Benson Henderson is a freak. I'd say Penn and Shogun are both done for. Shogun hasn't beat anyone of note in the last few years. I think he's still only in his early 30s so he will be around due to his fanbase from his Pride days. Penn is in the same situation, 1 win in the last few years. If Penn doesn't retire again he will still have some more fights though.

MacDonald is a malevolant assassin. He humilated BJ Penn, and could have killed him after he was dummied at least three times choosing instead to taunt and hurt him for the entire fight duration. Penn is done after that.

And Henderson was awesome. That guy doesn't seem to have any weakness. He took that disrespectful little shit to school.

Boetsch got screwed over. Fuck that fight. If he didn't get blatantly poked in the eye he would have won. Philippou got dominated the whole fight until the poke he threw. Miller/Lauzon was a fun fight to watch. Miller dominated 90% of the time but Lauzon fought like a boss and threw a few good subs. He might need a blood transfusion after that, though.

Main event? I guess I could care less. Not a big fan of JDS or Cain. I believe it's not in the best interest of the UFC to see a belt holder get totally dominated through 5 rounds like that, though.

Overall, the last 3 fights made for a decent card. The Leben and Okami fights weren't anything special.

Anyone got thoughts on the Weidman v Silva matchup? Personally I think Silva gets taken down easily enough, but man he is dangerous off his back. I don't think Weidman has the experience to submit him. Although... Silva's black belt is from Antonio Nogueira, not a name that really springs to mind when you think of BJJ trainers. Thoughts?

Chael couldn't take down Anderson when his back was on the cage, and Chael is on a different level than Weidman. I think Anderson KO's him in round two, probably gets hit with a takedown round one and held down a couple to no real effect.

I really don't want Silva to lose. I thought Munoz would take it to Weidman. Weidman almost ended Munoz's career. He'll give it to Silva but I think Andy has proven time and again that he'll find a way to win.

Munoz brought his beating on himself though. He was injured when he fought, but couldn't pull out because he needed the money if I remember correctly. I really can't see silva losing here.

The more I think about this the less chance I think Weidman has. The comments on this are great. Also, the differences in their media workout stills crack me up.
