Alt Focus: Marvel's Jessica Jones It was okay until they explained the main villain's power. It was just so stupid because he was really what made the show watchable and was wayyyy to powerful of a villain for the people fighting against him. After that I just got nit picky about the shows inconsistencies and it ruined it for me.
I thought I was the only one. The first time I heard it was, of all places, on this board. I thought it was "Netflix" and "Chill," that 'chill' was like another streaming service. Then I googled it and felt really behind the times. In unrelated news, I am an idiot sometimes.
This is a popular shirt in Cincinnati right now. Three Ways don't mean the same thing here either. *Skyline Chili reference for those of you that don't know which is everyone not Kubla Kahn.
I'll go with, in no particular order: House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, The League, Daredevil, Magnum PI, Rockford Files, That 70's Show (Seasons 2-6), Arrested Development.
Yes, I'm double posting, get over it. Forgot to add Orphan Black, which I just started. Also love Sherlock and Luther, the most recent Luther is On Demand. As to Sherlock, I'm actually going to the movies next Tuesday to see the Christmas Special (which is set in the time Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote Sherlock).
Fucking love both Luther and Sherlock. I don't watch any procedural police shows on normal TV, but Luther had a different feel. I think the BBC just has a great way of doing programming, and I'm an Anglophile, so that probably contributes.
It's not a great show but I enjoyed The 100. I think the third season is starting in January. I'm not sure why I liked it, the effects are bad, but I did.
I watched the first episode of Luther. Honestly, as far as Elba's characters go I like Stringer Bell better. He's a crack dealing scumbag, but he's less corrupt as a person than John Luther. I'm not calling Luther a corrupt cop mind you, but his personal corruption runs pretty deep. I don't like the character, and I'm meh on the show so far. Agreed on Sherlock, though. Best. Best man speech. Ever. I started watching Continuum, and I'm really enjoying it so far. I like the moral ambiguity of the 2070s' government being tyrannical, but the revolutionaries opposing them are even worse, and the series' heroine is one of the stormtroopers.
Thats what I like about him, he's a great anti-hero. The first episode or two are different than the season. He really grows and becomes interesting as the series progresses. I'd give it a bit more rope.
F is for Family and BoJack Horseman are two examples of their really good animation. Funny, heartfelt and brutally honest in their portrayals of the characters.
I can't believe I forgot about this, but another cancelled sketch comedy show that was absolutely brilliant was Mr. Show with Bob and David. When I was in high school (and I used to smoke weed) I used to love getting high and watching this on HBO. Kubla, back me up here; I know this is your favorite show.
I see someone mentioned HBO's "Deadwood" which is definitely my favorite. Same for "Band of Brothers". Encore's "Spartacus" series is worth binge watching every time it's on. Historical, lots of ass kicking and great storyline. Not to mention the Romans were a decadent bunch so titties and gratuitous nudity galore !
Lately I've been binging How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, and Futurama for my 30 minute comedy fix. And, like a lot of shows, I just stop after they peak (HIMYM as soon as Zoey shows up, Futurama end of season 4, before the "movies," and Scrubs I just skip seasons 6 and 7 and go right to 8). I'll also say Archer, Fargo, Daredevil, and Justified as great binge watches.
But . . . it lives! Well, sort of. Netflix revived a new version of it called w/ Bob & David, that started a couple months ago. I haven't heard if it's been renewed for another season.
Not on Netflix, but if you have Hulu, Undateable is fucking hysterical. Chris D'Elia and Brent Morin are amazing and its all taped live in front of an audience, old school style. The cast is made up of a lot of stand up comedians so there is a tremendous amount of improv and attempting to make each other laugh. And the creators kept it all in, so there is a lot of completely natural and character breaking laughter that feels like a SNL sketch gone wrong at times. The most recent season currently going on NBC is actually live in studio each week and has completely shattered the 4th wall. Its great stuff. Brent Morin's special "I'm Brent Morin" on Netflix is hilarious as well.
Did someone say Battlestar Gallactica? I've binged a lot of series over the years. Sons of Anarchy is great, as is Justified. Hell, Rescue Me, The Shield, The Americans, basically anything FX has done in the drama world. I was a huge fan of Lost and used to rewatch the whole series every year before the new seasons would come out. The Wire, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead... these are obvious ones. For comedy, you know what holds up surprisingly well? That 70's Show.
It really does. Its one of those shows like Seinfeld where you can just catch an episode here and there and still enjoy it. I never really understood King of the Hill until recently, now I love it.
