Reno I am working in Reno for the next week plus it looks like it is going to be an ongoing gig requiring me to come out here for a week at a time a couple of times a year. I need suggestions on places to catch a drink in the downtown area as I do not want to go broke hanging out at the casinos or strip clubs. (not that there is anything wrong with that.) Does anyone on the board live here and would like to catch an Aces game or watch some basketball at a watering hole?
I'm going to be in NYC the next few nights, crashing at a family member's place in Manhattan. Anyone have recommendations for bars and late night stuff / down to meet up for drinks?
If they want to do the tourist thing I really enjoyed Windsor castle. It feels like a museum full of pieces that were either gifted to the British empire, or just straight up taken by the British empire back when you know...they had an Empire. Jeweled scabbards and status and other war spoils next to amazing drawings by DaVinci. For my money I would skip the Roman baths and Stonehenge, but the 'London Eye' is a big attraction. Never been but I hear it is the best view in London. http://www.londoneye.com/
Don't know much about Westmin, but Soho is a crowded tourist trap filled with punks and punk poseurs. It has lots of famous "it" dive bars and It's an interesting view (I spent little time there) but it's noisy and packed. We stayed in the area of the Apollo Victoria theatre and it was clean and quiet at night. My favourite thing to see while there was the Tower Of London (tell them to buy the after-hours tickets to see the Tower lockdown). It is not to be missed. Do not confuse with the Tower Bridge tour, its boring, overpriced and shitty. London Eye will cost them $100 for one turn around the wheel, isn't worth it at all for the price OR the huge goddamn line. Take a couple pictures of the giant hunk of shit and KEEP WALKING. Hampton Court is the nicest of all royal castles. It is galvanizing, perhaps the most flawless place you'll ever see. Buckingham is crap, not even impressive to see in person compared to other places in the city. Also, I guess the new Shard London Bridge Tower (tallest building in the city, shaped like a thin pyramid) gives great views and isn't too expensive. This is a PRICEY city.
I'm going to be in Washington DC from July 15-18 for work and I'm looking for either restaurant recommendations or things to do in the evenings. I'll be ~6 blocks from the White House. Any help would be appreciated!
Birch and Barley/church key is the greatest place in the world if you are a beer snob. It is hands down my favorite thing about dc. Amazing food. Better beer.
I have no idea if this place is any good, but last I looked a few years ago there was only one and now I see there are several locations. The chef who owns it, Spike Mendolsohn, has been on Iron Chef and tried twice to be the Next Iron Chef. http://www.goodstuffeatery.com/capitol-hill
I'm going to be in Miami next weekend for a conference and have Thursday and Sunday morning to see the area a little bit. I also have a couple nights free where a group of us will be on our own for dinners. I've never been. Are there any sights or places to go that are absolute musts? Any great dinner places?
$100? Was this an inflated rate with handjob included? Tickets are just under $30, $25 if you get them online. Stunning views of the city, especially at night. It was overcast and dreary the day we went, shocker, but it was still a couple of the coolest pictures we took all trip. Make sure to caution them not to play 3 card monty on the bridge nearby as long as you're giving a bright and sunny overview of the city. Definitely go up to Camden Town if they like quirky shops, the market is very cool. Regents Park is pretty cool just to walk around. But while you're up that way, definitely don't go to the Sherlock Holmes house. Tremendously disappointing and we didn't even bother with the tour.
I wouldn't call this place a must see, but if you're in to burgers you might want to check this place out. http://www.bnbjoint.com It's called the Beer and Burger Joint, and they have two locations, one on South Beach and one in Brickell. Awesome burgers and you can get your fries fried in duck fat. If you're in to Cuban sandwiches you might want to try Versailles on SW 8th Street. I'd stay away from the trendy clubs on South Beach, but you may want to hit up Mangos or the Clevelander just to people watch. YMMV
All of this. Wimbledon is a decent visit. They can hit up Westminster Abbey and Big Ben/Parliament in one short walk. If they're into museums, the British Museum is incomparable in scope, and the Tate is well worth it too. Perhaps in the same trip as the Tate, drop by the Globe. The Tower of London is also a good time. Hampton Court is a short ride away, and an interesting visit. Buckingham Palace is kinda so-so from what I remember (sure, funny hats on ten guards, but then what?). However, if the Royal Family is out of town, you can go inside and maybe that's worthwhile. Picadilly Circus is famous and all, but it's just big/loud/bright. If you've seen Time Square, there's nothing especially interesting about it.
So long shot, but I'm in South Korea (just east of Ulsan) for a few weeks. If anyone is up for a drink, hit me up.
I just left there like 2 months ago. There is at least one other board member in S Korea though and it's a small country. sure you make it down to a Busan, it's the second biggest city in S Korea and it's right on the water. Hyundai Beach is pretty awesome and there is a solid night life there too.
I'll be just outside of New Orleans for work next week. Any recommendations for good places to eat/drink?
The company I am currently leaving now has a Network Engineer/Administrator position. The company is a managed services provider, and is located just north of Albany, NY. It has decent pay and a nice bonus structure. You would be interacting with quite a few different clients, all of which have excellent rapport with my company. Let me know if you know of anyone in the area that might be interested in the position.
Gonna have some free time in Chicago Saturday afternoon. If anybody wants to get lunch or a beer or something, lemme know.
I'm heading to Boston for the weekend of 1/25-26, staying in Back Bay. I'm not the most active of members here anymore but if anyone wants to grab a beer or five and shoot the shit with an Aussie idiot, lemme know. I don't have any concrete plans apart from absorbing some big-city time after two months in Central Maine.
Going to Orlando next week for work. Looking for places to eat/stuff to do besides hang with the mouse or play golf. Staying over by UCF but I'll have my own rental car.
Going to be heading up to Boston for the first time this weekend. Any suggestions on "must-do" places to visit, eat at, etc.? I know because it's going to be St. Patrick's Day weekend, pretty much everything is going to involve drinking, but I'd like to fit in some non-alcohol related activities if I can.
