I will be in Lisbon from the end of January until July. If anyone swings by, I'd be happy to grab a couple of beers or volunteer my couch for crashing. For this purpose, check out http://www.couchsurfing.org I've had nothing but awesome experiences through that site, really great if you're travelling on a budget or just want the quickest way to delve into local (sub)culture.
I'm officially moving to a small town outside of Casper, WY. Anyone close to there? I'm not planning on being there for more than a year or so, but hoping to make the best of it while I'm there. If anyone knows anything about the area or lives close it would be great to hear from you.
Hola Amigos, I know it's been a long time since I rapped at you, but I've recently moved to the Boston area. I'm looking for a few things, so if you can help me out, well that would just be super! Cheap Housing Decent indoor basketball run Decent home poker game Fun, etc. Part-time work* *This might be where I'm able to help you. I'm fairly well-versed in online-marketing and SEO, so if you want some advice for a site, hit me up. I'm looking to build a freelance portfolio too, so if you want any actual work done, I'm quite willing to listen, especially if it's something fairly straightforward like article syndication or link-building. Thanks. Oh, and if you want to geta drink or something and listen to my only-sometimes sensical ramblings, that's cool too.
As far as housing I would either go to Allston or Cambridge - maybe Somerville. Allston is disgusting but it's fun. Cambridge has a lot to do, and is a lot funkier than most Boston neighborhoods (Beacon Hill, Back Bay, etc.) Somerville is much farther out there, but it's a nice quiet neighborhood with good local restaurants and bars. Davis Square is pretty cool. For fun - go to the Green Dragon in Faneuil on a Friday or Saturday, and for a good local pub with darts go to The Sevens in Beacon Hill.
Anybody in Phoenix want to meet up in Westgate tomorrow night and get blasted? I'm here on vacation and damn is it awesome. Saw the Coyotes dominate last night. Going to see the Suns play tonight. And a damn fine game of golf earlier this morning. Fire me a PM if you're in the area!
Alright Connecticut people, it's that time of year where this state gets to do the one thing it doesn't suck at: good food for cheap. What's your favorite or maybe just usually most expensive one on the list? Edit- Also, who the hell names a restaurant Firebox?
I hardly ever eat in the Hartford area, so the only one I can speak on is the USS Chowder Pot. They make, as you would assume, some pretty kickass chowder, and they've got decent seafood as well.
Kinda makes me wish my install was now instead of early December so I could partake. Then again I'm glad it's done and I don't have to deal with the Anti-Christ anymore!
Max Downtown and Trumbull Kitchen are both great - and both owned by the same person. Trumbull Kitchen was the first restaurant in the "Max" dynasty and I believe he has six or seven restaurants at this point. Max's Oyster Bar (West Hartford), Max Amore (Glastonbury), Max's Grill (Springfield), etc. Trumbull Kitchen is more casual and has great sushi, Max Downtown is a little more upscale - but the food is great in both. The bar crowd at all the Max restaurants is tremendous. $.02
While not fun, per se, definitely check out Primanti Brothers Believe me, it's a Pittsburgh staple, and incredibly delicious.
Calling all job seekers, which there seem to be a lot of around here: the company my husband works for has a ton (seriously, a ton) of open recs. It's an interactive advertising agency, and they are mostly hiring account managers, production managers, web developers, and creative developers. Jobs open in SF/NYC/DC if you're an American citizen, London if EU citizen. Have a 4-year degree, like technology/cool design, and be a quick study. Previous experience in the ad industry helps a lot. Alert: there will by smug hipster types in the house. There was aggressively ironic wearing of tux t-shirts at their holiday party, I saw it with my very own eyes. PM me for details. If your resume/cover letter rocks, I'll have my husband send you straight through to a good contact. (It's quite selfish, he gets a decent referral bonus... so don't be shy!)
Thank God I'm home and don't have to listen to crazy Steelers' fans...Oh wait... Anyways, it was a great getaway. I ended up at a little Italian restaurant called the Common Plea for a romantic dinner on Saturday. The Veal Promiscotti was the greatest thing I've ever eaten in my life. It's pricey ($160 for 2, 3 drinks apiece), but well worth it. We also ended up at Fatheads Friday night, and Deluca's for breakfast Sunday morning. All worth it, and thanks for the help!
I'm moving out of my apt at the end of April, and I'm wondering if anyone in Dallas knows of a duplex/condo/space in the Lakewood area or off of Lemmon OR in Uptown that needs a renter. Just taking a shot. I'm spreading the word because I'd rather sublet/be in a cool, cheaper space than live in an overpriced apartment.
I might be going to Atlantic City next weekend. Never been there, and the extent of my knowledge is based entirely on Boardwalk Empire. Is there anything I should see? The better casinos? bars? So I don't waste my time figuring out what is best. Thanks.
I'm going to be driving up to Salt Lake City on Tuesday, and will probably be there between one and two months. I'm heading over from Los Angeles, so I figure things will be pretty different. I don't know what my work schedule will be like yet, but if anyone wants to grab a beer, or has any reccomendations for bars or restaurants, that'd be awesome.
Heading to New Orleans this Sunday March 6th and will be staying with my brother until Thursday. If anybody is around and wants to grab a beer, I'll be in the CBD. Hit me up.
