A few days ago, I was killing time down town while Li'l Bandit was playing a paid gig, and I saw this little baby possum in the grass by the sidewalk. Weird. Also, if you're wondering what (not so) Li'l Bandit looks like these days, here he is, hanging from the rafters of one of the buildings at my shop:
This bird is about to go America all over everyone's asses. That or grab a fish. One of the two. This was not the worst morning coffee I've had.
I'm just back from a trip to Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo. Here are a few pics: Berat, Albania. View from my guesthouse bedroom window, Theth, Albania. "Kosovo is Serbia - Crimea is Russia" mural, Mitrovice, Kosovo. Sorry! Mitrovica, Serbia.
Having otters visit our campsite looking to score an easy stringer of fish was a first. This area was burned by a big fire in 2011, we were there in 2012 when it still looked completely torched and the woods are in the process of growing back. Not sure how this happened, usually you would see the trees gradually transition as the fire went past but there was a clear line between alive and dead here. Maybe all the trees that were on their last legs after the fire finally dropped. Some heavy storms came through this summer and knocked a bunch of the dead standing trees over, usually the Forest Service is a little more official but this was still appropriate:
This poor motorcycle. Spoiler I watched this fat bastard for 10 mins. Only for a moment at a time would he not be leaning on the bike in some way.
As some of you are probably aware, I just got back from an African Safari with my mom. I took around 2500 pictures and videos, and have spent the last day or two getting them in order. I've selected a few of the good/fun ones and put them together into a slideshow video on YouTube, in case you're interested in what it was like. Yes, there is a ton of Hippo coverage... but that's because they were so fucking hilarious. We spent HOURS sitting there watching them while having drinks, and they were only about 50 yards from our tent on the river. I have to say that they were one of the big highlights of the trip. Needless to say, if you aren't as easily entertained by them and their flatulent nature as I am, there are a few quick links in the video description that will let you hit some of the high points in the show. Enjoy, and feel free to ask any questions you may have (in the WDT thread).
Okay, folks, it's time for the poorly spelled sign of the day/week/month. Question: If the owner of the place was too dumb to know how to spell "burger," why didn't the printer catch it?
Because their job isn't to spell check, it's to print what the customer ordered. Most (smart) companies will have multiple people look over something before it goes to print. But they're gonna print what you want. Sometimes places misspell things on purpose to be stand out. Or because they're canadian. Whatever. It's kinda like why you see all those misspelled tattoos. The artist didn't do it, he just spelled it as the customer wanted. Now a lot of artists are gonna catch something obvious, but their focus isn't on the spelling, it's on making art and not giving you AIDS.
Yesterday I was gardening in my backyard and out of nowhere the dog gets all excited and starts sniffing and pawing at a spot next to a planter barrel. I get a closer look and it turns out to be a rabbit nest full of babies. Shouldn't be long until their eyes are open and they are scurrying around the ferns.
So I saw this on my way to work this morning. Yes, that's a Dodge Charger being supported by a power line guy-wire. No, I didn't see it happen. Unfortunately.
Strasbourg, France Strasbourg Cathedral, which was the tallest building in the world for over 200 years.
We went to Cannon Beach today. Despite trapping two teen boys and a toddler in the car for almost five hours total - so worth it.
A few photos from Easter Island; the quarry where they carved out the Moai statues: The evening view from our Cabanas: Sunrise over the Moai at Ahu Tongariki:
This guy arrived Sunday. Photo was taken when he was an hour old. It's still sinking in and I'm enjoying getting to know him
Okay, folks, it's that time again: POORLY SPELLED SIGNS! Here's the weirdest thing about this sign: Yes, it's misspelled, but they have another, older sign that says the same thing, SPELLED CORRECTLY. It's not like they made this sign, then realized they fucked up and made a new one. Nope. This was their second attempt.
