I have LGBT folks and younger women on my team that have had safety issues in FL and Texas, including getting guns drawn on them and someone following them to their hotel and trying to get in their room, and the police didn't do a fuckin thing. For my purposes, when they say "I ain't going back", I don't win anything by arguing with them.
Fine. That’s not the same thing as “shitty politics,” but I’ll take your word for it and quit belaboring the point.
This is Cape Coral where my cousin and Aunt live. The elevation is 3'. Storm surge could be as high as 8-12'. This could be bad. Real bad. Damn near entire city could be under water.
I know some people staying on Siesta Key. Same shit. DeSantis keeps saying if you're staying, just go to higher ground. WHAT HIGHER GROUND?!?
2nd story? My cousin's house is brand spanking new and thankfully, due to new code laws, their house has storm windows and is built up. The bottom of their windows are higher than the neighbors garage. edit - Also, Cape Coral has more waterways than roads, so even if you're 2 miles from the coast, you're essentially still on the coast.
wouldn't wanna be in that 2nd story when the roof comes off. People forget that these higher category hurricanes are essentially tornadoes with their wind speed, except spread over miles and miles.
I am of the opinion that hurricanes should have theme songs. For example: Spoiler: Katrina Spoiler: Ian
my preference is to find family, friends, and co-workers with the same name as the hurricane du jour and just tease them for that. Sadly I don't know anyone named Ian. I'm sure they're wet as shit though.
Wife's grandfather would have stayed. He would have driven rebar in his lawn, front and back, and run ratchet straps over the roof. I know, I've seen him do it.
Tow straps actually go over the roof every ten feet or so, then heavy duty ratchet straps in front and back to tie it down to the anchors. Then he'd just have to worry about his pool over flowing. He'd go out and siphon it down every little bit.
Emptying a pool is a great way to have it pop up out of the ground. Water forces and pressure differentials be powerful, yo. https://www.nbcnews.com/video/familys-pool-pops-out-of-ground-after-its-drained-55163459743
It’s now been 25 years since this movie came out. Since then, has there since been a funnier scene filmed than this?
I don't think storm surge has ever gotten him. He was about a mile north of the bay in 70ish year old neighborhood, must be that high ground they speak of.
