Rant: The bank we financed our geothermal through sent us the first of documents to sign to pay out to the company. I skimmed through it, e-signed it, and then realized the interest rate was astronomical. We were told, and have in writing, 4.99% and they have 17.99% on the document. Thankfully my wife hasn't signed yet, and won't. We NEVER would have agreed to that interest rate. I'm hoping it was an error, but I've already talked to our local bank about an alternative option at a slightly lower interest rate (4.35%). EDIT: I talked to the bank, and it's apparently two separate loans. This one is "18mo. same as cash" so the interest doesn't accrue until the 18 month mark. No big deal, we'll pay it off, but it'd been nice if someone told us this.
Rave: dad has two more weeks of chemo/rad then a break then an MRI then more chemo. rant: Fucking insurance companies.
Rave: House has gone up over 100k in the last year due to COVID and people wanting to leave NSW and Victoria for Queensland and I've got a lower interest rate sorted as well. Rant: Women are complicated and confusing and I don't adult or people very well.
Rave: hubs got a job offer with pay and start date established. Just got the formal offer now. Thank fucking god. It all happened super fast. Better pay, better promotion and raise potential, don't have to move.
RAVE: Had a great day at work yesterday... culmination of a few long weeks of work. I was picked to lead a new group, a technical Skunkworks team, reporting into a GM/SVP, with the mandate of providing strategic advice and technical validation to the C-Suite. Yesterday was our first real meeting and brain storm with that leadership group, and it went better than I could ever have imagined. They were blown away, and the CEO said "I'm glad to see that we've obviously picked the right team for this role." My game plan of "don't get fired" for the next 2 years is still in play.
Rave: I discovered a new mineral yesterday. Sure it had been predicted to exist, but I still found that it. This was my ultimate career goal, so it is all downhill from here though. Rant: Since it is technically an analogue of another mineral I don’t get to name it MineralyMcmineralfaceite.
Rave: First week at the new job doing Staff Famil done and dusted, already feels a lot better than being in Defence. Multi-Pitch Abseiling for the next two weeks then a shadow on my first camp. Life is good.
Rant:. She passed early yesterday. I'm glad it's over for her, she deteriorated so fast. They ended up finding a tumor in her brain that started causing seizures and other neurological symptoms that started a few days ago.
RANT: I was at the store and the guy in line in front of me was going on "They be seeing me driving 100-120mph out here, but they don't be messing with me because they know I'm a good driver. A lot of people be wishing they drive like me." Out in the parking lot he got into his shitbox Hyundai with a fart can and started revving his engine at me, like I was going to waste my time and gas racing him. In a related development, yesterday 9 people died in an accident here because some ignorant asshole thought he was a good driver...and 8 innocent people are dead because he was very, very wrong.
RANT: Antarctica cruise has been postponed a year due to the Argentinian Covid protocols being put in place, totally killing a lot what the trip was about. Oh well, we can wait a year. RAVE: That 5-6 weeks vacation time will instead be translated into dragging the Tin Can across the country and fishing with friends, all while doing some work via the Starlink. Best of both worlds... lots of time away from home and relaxing, with minimal vacation time being spent.
RANT: Still on the search for employees. Had one interview last week and I offered this 1 year newbie what a 10 year journeyman makes and he just texted me and said he's passing on the job.
RAVE: We made a home insurance claim on our broken furnace from last month, just for shits. They approved it and we’re getting the money back, minus a $500 deductible. My FIL loaned us the cash to pay for the new furnace, and we can just get that off our consciences quick.
Rave: We we’re convinced our cat was dying of cancer. He had been losing weight and is anemic. The vet was also sure he was sick. Turns out he’s just fine with a little inflammation of his pancreas, but nothing serious. I’m relieved after being bummed out all week.
Rant: I woke up this morning, turned on the lights and was walking out of the bedroom. I usually say good morning to whatever dog is sleeping on the bed at this point; today, it was the 14-month-old lab, Ray Lewis. I bent down to pet him and, lo and behold, he had brought a treat in from outside sometime during the night to eat later: a poopsicle. Which had since thawed and was laying beside him on the bed. Cue me fucking pissed off and stripping the bedding 30 seconds later. I then walked through the house to make sure he hadn't done it again and BOOM. Stepped right on another one, on the living room carpet. I cleaned the yard on Sunday and we've since had roughly 10" of snow, so I don't even know how the fuck he's finding this. I guess I shut down the dog door overnight until this phase passes? Ugh.
Similar Rant: just vacuumed up three spots of vomit that I cleaned up with borax and had to scrub the carpet in another spot from a dog with an itchy butthole. I can't wait for some sort of hardwood or LVP floors.
Rant: Wife has Covid... again. We both got it while on our vacation in August. I started feeling symptoms on the flight back and felt not quite like ass, but pretty close for about a week. Double Rant: Waiting on my test results. I schedule my test immediately after my wife got the positive result. (Not rapid tests or home tests). Pretty sure I already know the answer because I feel like stomped shit this morning after feeling pretty bad yesterday. I got the J&J vaxx on Nov. 27 so it hasn't even been 90 days. Also got the antibodies treatment 3 days after we returned from vacation in August... so I'm going to be a little pissed when I get a positive test result. Minor Rant: all of the above made us cancel a trip to visit our friends in Colorado this weekend (their daughter's first birthday). Coincidentally, this is the same couple we went on vacation with in August. Edited to add: Just got the results back... yep, I got the 'Rona for a second time. I feel worse this time around, more like the flu this time... this is such bullshit.
Rant: After feeding the goats this morning, I slipped on the ice and hit the ground hard. In the moments after, i was worried I broke my arm or shoulder and wouldn't be able to play guitar in the coming weeks, which are very busy for the band. Particularly a show in NYC this weekend. Rave: Nothing broken, but I'm sore. This has me thinking of making some changes around here, which I'll put in the Homesteading thread Rant: I have to go to NYC this weekend. ( I agreed to be a team player, and I'm sure once there I'll have a good time. But I'll be happier when I'm back home. )
