Rave: The Falls Festival for New Years was fucking amazing. Some of the highlights were Thundamentals, Hermitude, Crystal Fighters, Violent Femmes, Cat Empire among others.

Rave: Got drunk, made some wicked friends, had an absolute blast being a menace and had an all round good time.

Rant: Almost definitely fucked a very good friendship with the person I went up with.

RANT: Ever look at someone and think "I'm pretty sure you're a sociopath"?

Well, that happened this week when my cousins tried to tell my brother that he can't be so nasty to his girlfriend and he replied "Whatever. She doesn't talk back to me."

Girlfriend got drunk on New Year's Eve and got sick. Evidently this sent my brother into new heights of anger.

I tried to warn the girl. She said "He's not that bad. It's rare that he gets really nasty."

Let the games begin. Can't say she didn't see this shitstorm coming.

RAVE: Never been so happy to touch down in the south this morning...a thousand miles away from what might occur.

Rave: Boomer fucking Sooner! I've been doubting this team all season and they managed to pull of a massive upset. I still can't believe it.

RAVE: Got another raise at work. Between this one and the one a few months ago it equals about $8000 more a year.

RAVE: Weekend trip to a spa resort with the GF

RAVE: Cruise to the Caribbean next month

RAVE: Cruise out of Florida so I'll be able to show The GF where I grew up and she'll get to meet the grandparents

RAVE: Weather in central/Northern California has been great. 69* today. (Highs should be mid-low 50's)

RANT: Hardly any snow in the mountains

RAVE: Don't ski or snowboard and hate the cold.

RANT: There won't be much snow melt and the lakes will be low this summer.

    RAVE: Don't own a boat

    Rave: Morning sex.

Rant: Someone stole my garbage can last night. Or possibly the garbage men were overzealous and thought it was garbage.

    Rant: Suburban woes.

Rant: Expecting 6-10 inches of snow between now and Monday. Where my school is (about 15 miles southeast of me) is expected to get hit a bit harder. The high Monday is -15. The high Tuesday is -2. Why is this a rant?

Monday is a "teachers only" day at school, and I'd bet my left arm I'll still have to try to go in. I may call and take a sick day, because driving to my school from home may literally be impossible, as most of my drive is through corn fields, which means and epic amount of blowing and drifting snow, making those the worst roads in the area. Why not a personal day? School policy dictates that personal days may never be used before or after vacations to extend them. What bullshit.

Rave: If the forecast is accurate. I see no way school is not cancelled Tuesday, given a high of -2, and temps in the morning hovering in the -10 range, when most kids are supposed to be waiting for busses. I can't imagine the school wants to risk that kind of liability. Plus they have 6 "make up" days built in to the schedule already, and 2 "buffer days" so they can cancel twice before we have to start making days up. Here is hoping they use them. Luckily, I also have all my materials at home for prep, too, and I can post everything to my website for my students to download, so no need for paper or copying.

Placed fourth in a local poker room's winter championship tournament. Won about $1,300. Not a bad day.

Stokeage: Can now comfortably ski pretty much any intermediate slope entirely switch, and some expert slopes. Huge progression over just starting to ski switch at the end of last season.

Non-Stokeage: Didn't do my standard speed-testing lap, came up short on a backflip and split the nose of my ski in half. Womp.

Extra-stokeage: Went on a road trip today to check out secondhand motorcycles. Found a quality bike. Life is good

Rave: Back home after three weeks in the US. It was a good time, but there were some mind fucks. That Pogues song, "Fairy Tale of New York" was right, the cars there are big as bars. So many fucking SUVs. And people bagging my groceries? Don't touch my shit bitch.

Rant:Jägerette got a contract gig at an old job for 5 weeks. She will be making bank, plus she is doing some remodeling work for her old parents, and is getting paid for it, so we have a ton of extra income.

This is a rant because I am here alone for 5 weeks in the crushing, lonely darkness.

RANT: Its -15 degrees out, feels like -35. I can't even process what that means.

RAVE: Working from home which means I will be taking my next conference call from bed and doing fuck all most of the day.

RANT: After this past wedding and the holidays, I have nothing immediate coming up to circle on my calendar, which sucks. Its fun to have stuff to look forward to during the soul sucking misery which is January and February in the Midwest.

RANT/RAVE: Met an awesome girl at the wedding. My friend purposely sat us next to each other figuring we'd hit it off. It was never going to go anywhere seeing as she's never leaving Columbus and I'm never moving there among other reasons, but still would have the potential for fun. Had a blast throughout the wedding, any afterpartying plays were derailed by her dancing and hanging too much with her sister and mom towards the end of the reception (how DARE you choose family time celebrations over a decent enough dude you've known for 4 hours) and her decision to head home instead of heading to our hotel party. So that was lame, but I was at least pleased with the fact that my friends know my type well and continue to look out for me. And that those kind of girls still are floating around, unlike the same shit that I run into daily.

RANT: This officially closes the book for me on weddings being the worst as a single dude. This was a direct set up and that's the only reason it worked at all. My other single friends were just kind of sitting around drinking heavily. The bride is impossibly friendly, social, and well liked. She had EASILY 50-60 female friends between 25-30 in attendance. I swear on all that is holy, a grand total of 4 of them weren't with serious BFs or husbands. And 3 of those were not genetically blessed. Couple that with there being way too much attention on me and my endeavors by my married friends, and even the groom's parents who are great, but had also known about the plan as they've known her forever and wanted updates. Too much attention just fucks those situations always.

RANT: I don't like the way 2014 has started off. My dog is in surgery right now to remove a sock from her colon. She's 6 and the dumbass has been doing it for years and shitting them out with no problem. Because she is getting older, she's not passing it like she normally would. Apparently it's also extremely common for dogs to do this. The vet had plenty of stories about crazy stuff they've taken out of dogs. Time to become the sock Nazi. Just have to find a way for her not to get them out of the laundry.

    RANT: $1000.00 vet bill.

MEGA RANT: The house is not the same without her here.

tiny rave: I can make payments.

Can I jump on the weather bandwagon?

Rave: A foot of snow fell yesterday and it was a balmy 31 degrees outside, perfect for sledding and snow-venturing. Boyfriend and I were even smart and dug our cars out and scraped them off in the brief window between snow and sub-zero temperatures late last night.

Also Rave: Monday Snow Day and Tuesday Cold Day.

Rant: It's -2 and falling. The low tonight is -15 with a wind chill below -40. Our radiators are fighting a losing battle and it's about 56* in my apartment right now. There's soup on the stove, but I might have to bake cookies as an excuse to leave the oven on for a while.

Rant: I just spent 90 minutes chipping the 2-foot high driveway windrow of solid ice that the plow left behind, the bastard.

Rave: Don't need to go to the gym today. I did about a million squats combined with reverse grip bent over rows.

    Rant: My bum is sore.

RANT: I had to turn down tickets to the National Championship. That's right. I had a ticket to this goddamn game and had to turn it down because my boss wouldn't give me the time off. I took two weeks for the holidays and she wouldn't let me take three extra days. Did I mention I've been a Seminoles fan for 20 years and the boyfriend's an Auburn alum and this may never happen again? I hate my boss.

RANT: Probably wouldn't have mattered, because I have the flu.

RANT: Auburn just scored. While I usually root for AU during the season, not against my beloved Noles.

Rant: It is 6 degrees here, and I should have already left for work. My car is in the driveway, not a garage, so I am dreading going out. We also lost our water in our townhouse. I hate football but went to FSU and loved my time there, so I should have just used it as an excuse to make the trip out west for the game.

Rave: Tonight, I am taking the Jeopardy! online contestant test once again! I hope that it leads to another audition.

Rant/Rave: I am starting graduate school tomorrow, so I can kiss my free time goodbye.

Rave: Last few days have been a blast, drnking beer, catching up with friends and family, playing with my nephew.

Rant: I've driven close to 3000km in the last few weeks and I've got another 1500km to go on the way home.
