Transformers: Age of Extinction The title of this movie is only tangentially related to the monotony of nearly 3 hours of the same scenes over and over again - cars and trucks turning into robots, smashing each other, and turning back into cars and trucks, ad nauseum. It would be cool for an hour and half. 165 minutes is way too fucking long. Just when you think it's over, it's not, the dialogue was written by a 12 year old, and there are scenes in the movie that have no bearing on the rest of the film. I was actually editing in my head as I watched. I would give it a 2/10, but since Shia Ledouche wasn't in it, I'll give it a 3/10.
Guardians of the Galaxy was fun as tits. It crams a LOT into one movie and they don't have the advantage of well known (or developed) characters. But, it was funny, gorgeous space shots and generally well done. Marvel has another billion, this shit was great.
Snowpiercer The first two thirds of this movie were pretty good. A really interesting take on a future dystopia with an cool premise. The last third bent the first two thirds over a railing and fucked it with a broom handle. I dont even know if I really understand it. The Wilfred/Ed Harris said that an equilibrium needs to be kept, but why the subjugation in the first place? And where does this "predetermined allotment" come from? The following were not explained well or at all: -Okay so there was global warming and some terraforming to fix it went awry and created a new ice age. But what does that have to do with the train? What did that kid starting a railway empire have to do with them being them only survivors? How did it actually get from A to Z? -As stated above, why subjugate the tail-end of the train and why does that create an equilibrium? -Why the fuck did that Asian guy and his daughter blow the fucking door off a moving train when they could have, ya know, slowed it down or something? A train that big and long would have taken 20 miles to stop, but at least it wouldnt have been taken out by an avalanche that kills every single person on it anyway. -What the fuck kind of ending is that? Okay so they see a polar bear and everything is all good? Theyre completely fucked no matter what. Either theyll freeze to death or the polar bear is going to eat them. I dont know how this is scoring 95% on RT, but its a 5/10 at best.
Guardians of the Galaxy was fantastic. I enjoyed it much more than Avengers 2 and the Ironman sequels. It was fun to see characters I knew little about, but that Marvel made you care about them rather quickly. The raccoon, Rocket, could have come across as cheesy, but they killed it with him. Dave Bautista actually did a pretty good job as Drax, which surprised me. Fun movie all around. 10/10 for its genre.
Guardians of the Galaxy - Absolutely fantastic. So much more fun than so many movies I've seen recently. I desperately want a Groot. The character development was excellent, and the space shots were beautiful. Definitely watch.
Just piling on . . . Totally agree with GotG reviews. It's great. Saw it tonight and want to see it again. The last time I wanted to pay to re-see a movie while it was still in theatres was when I was in high school. I addition to being fun, great action, compelling effects/ imagery, solid acting and clever writing/ dialogue, it was impressive how much they got in through the plot movement in that short of a time. Blockbuster of the year.
I'd just like to Dogpile onto this one - Saw Guardians of the Galaxy last night and it was a fucking great movie. I think it's probably going to set some box office take records, at least for the year - and it's deserved. Story, visual effects, casting and character development, really the whole package delivery was just superb. I loved it - and laughed my ass off.
Holy shit Guardians of the Galaxy was amazing. I was for some reason just crazy excited about this movie and it lived up to my expectations. Even better my wife originally had no interest in it and absolutely loved it. This movie is going to make some bank!
Guardians of the Galaxy I thought it strange for Marvel to already front one of their oddest teams, none the less this movie is a great time and although it lacks the monster action set pieces The Avengers had this movie is just as fun. Much like James Gunn's other films it has enough funny lines for two movies, with Dave Bautista just perfect as Drax The Destroyer and Bradley Cooper's vocal/capture performance as Rocket is an absolute riot. Lots of fun, as Marvel inches closer towards the Infinity Gauntlet ever so slightly with each "Universe" movie. This is a grand and completely worthy addition to the film series. 8/10
In my opnion, not having the monster action set pieces was one of the things that helped this movie knock it out of the park. They didn't need them and it would've taken away from the subtle touches they used in the big space imagery and creation of other worlds. In the Avengers, when huge things go ripping through sides of massive skyscrapers, I find my mind wandering to models and CGI and recognizing that I'm watching a special effect. In GotG, much like Star Wars when I was 9 years old, I found myself absorbed in the reality of where the characters were, instead of thinking about how some pimply-faced kid was coloring in backgrounds on a Macbook pro in the hole of some ILM cubicle. 8/10 is way too low for this film. I can't think of 20% worth of improvement I would do or hear a reasonable argument for. It was a solid 10/10 for me, simply because it had everything I expected, and more, in an action comedy.
I should add, that the soundtrack for GotG fucking kills. Looks like I have a new jogging mix: http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/Guardians+Of+The+Galaxy+Awesome+Mix+Vol+1/99116275 The broad age range of appeal of this movie is great, too, on that note. The "Awesome Mix Vol 1" is a big enough part of the plot to be its own character, yet half the audience for the film has no idea what a cassette tape is and probably has never made an awesome mix tape. I saw one comment that Sony needs to manufacture replica Walkmans. Somebody ought to at least make an iPad mini case that looks like that Walkman with the Awesome Mix Vol 1 in it. You could package it with a set of old school looking Koss headphones that you get in a bundle for downloading the soundtrack from iTunes.
just saw guardians of the galaxy and it was excellent. even my moving hating, comic book hating, action movie disliking gf thought it was a damn good movie.
as a side note to gotg being a solid 10/10 movie, if you get a chance, absolutely see it in imax 3d. it's fucking pretty.
Gone Girl was spectacular. I only read half the book, so I didn't understand the true craziness that is the book/movie. Absolutely see it if you get a chance.
Gone Girl Although not Fincher's best film, Gone Girl was great. Due to possible spoilers, I won't say much other than Rosamund Pike was amazing and Emily Ratajkowski's titts were spectacular. 8/10
Re: Gone Girl I really liked this movie! I had read the book a couple years ago so it wasn't fresh but I still remembered the premise. Despite that it held my attention easily and still was excited for the twists and turns. I thought the acting was perfect. Rosalind Pike in particular couldn't have been better
The Equalizer - I like intense Denzel. Not a feel good type movie. Good date movie. 2 hour advertisement for Home Depot, power tools, and why Russia and sex trafficking are bad.
