“The End Of The Fucking World” Just watch it. It’s hilarious, subversive and amazing. Eight 17-minute episodes you can blaze through in a night of comedic gems, with two wonderful teenage leads who are simply perfect and the models of generic teen angst. I promise you it’s a winner. 9.5/10
If anyone hasn't seen it yet, I highly recommend Brockmire. I just found out that Season 2 starts up April 25th. Booyah!
We don't have a "Don't Recommend A Show" thread, so I'm putting this here. I watched Workaholics every now and then, and those guys would crack me up. So, when Netflix told me Adam Devine and the same dudes had a new "film" out, Game Over, Man!" I figured, sure, why not. Plus, it's got Daniel Stern, Fred Armisen, Neal McDonough. I watched the first 20-30 minutes, and it was pretty much the same schtick from Workaholics. Then, in about a five minute window, I saw two penises - one of which was severed with a knife and shown close up, detached on the floor - and two dudes making out. I don't know what happens after that.
The show is four years in the making, directed by True Detective’s season one show runner. Yeah, it has my attention.
One episode to go in Season 2. Anybody else watching? Season 2 improved on the first. Julia Garner is impressive as Ruth, who has gone through quite the range of shit to deal with - which is saying a lot for this show. I hated Charlotte last year, and even more so this year. Most of the characters in this show have few redeeming characteristics, but she seems to be the worst. Is that intentional, or am I missing why I should like her?
Season two was far better than the first. Wendy has grown incredibly as a character this season. She went from miserable headcase last year to a master manipulator and power-player, one of best improvements I’ve seen in a role. It really should be a great season three.
Now on The Netflix Norm Macdonald Has A Show. I've watched the first two episodes and love it. It's not for everybody, but it has this perfect blend of silly and smart, to me. One minute he makes an elementary school-level jab and the next he's making a sincere comment about poetry. It feels like it is almost completely without any real structure, but not in some local cable access way; yet, the lack of structure is part of what makes the guests open up differently.
Hardy Bucks. Trailer Park Boys in Ireland on Netflix. Doesn't hit the high notes of Trailer Park Boys but still very fun and short seasons make for quick watching. I do really like to learn stark differences in vernacular and sayings. What's the craic boys?
Just binged Sex Education and You, both on netflix. Sex Education is soo delightful and hilarious. There’s a lot of super awkward sex that isn’t sexy, but that’s the point. I’m just sad there are only 8 episodes. The soundtrack is also excellent. It’s one of those shows that, if a friend watched it and really hated it, I would start questioning their judgement about everything. Like when one of my best friends disparaged my favorite 24 hr drive through donut joint and I had to ignore her food recommendations for at least a year. You was insufferable, I’m pretty sure the show is objectively terrible, but it’s oddly really compelling. The characters are almost universally unlikeable but I still couldn’t stop watching the stupid thing. All in all, very consumable/bingeable/entertaining trash.
So what you’re telling me, is that no one who frequents TiB likes Future Man? I am both shocked and appalled. Season 1 is better than season 2, but I don’t know why no one I know seems to have seen it. It’s the perfect mix of everything I love: sci-fi, pop culture references, time travel, Eliza Coupe, dicks. I know I haven’t been here in a while, but how does this show not have its own thread? It falls perfectly within this board’s wheelhouse.
I've watched season 1 and really liked it, I'm part way through season 2 and so far it's not as good, but still totally watchable. Spoiler: Season 1 Possible Spoilers The plot line in season 1 where Wolf ditches the mission to stay in the 80s, follow around Corey Hart and become a coke head celebrity chef is by far my favourite part of the show
Season 3 starts April 3. First episode is available now for free at https://www.ifc.com/shows/brockmire/full-episodes/season-03/episode-01/clubhouse-cancer and on YouTube. I am not in any of Season 3, but it looks like it's going to be good. I watched the first episode, and they've got some great cast additions this season.
