If you're into stand-up comedy I highly suggest The Green Room with Paul Provenza on Showtime. He gets 4 comedians and they just bullshit, tell stories, and talk about comedy. It ends up being pretty entertaining. I just watched the episode with Dana Gould, Kathy Griffin, Franklyn Ajaye, and Greg Proops. I never thought Greg Proops would be the guy to smoke a joint on t.v.
Started a show called Head Case the other day off of my brother's recommendation. It was on Starz and it playing on Netflix now. It is a show about a Hollywood therapist that treats big named stars, which make cameos as themselves. The last one I saw had Alanis Morrisette in the office talking about being addicted to masturbation and using a little pistol she carries as a dildo. Funnier than the last few seasons of Entourage Ill tell you that much.
BBC America has been killing it lately with their Saturday comedy block. "The Inbetweeners" is hilarious, "Come Fly With Me" can be funny if you're in the right mood, and "Friday Night Dinner" is brilliant. I think Simon Bird may be one of my new favorite Brittish people.
The Fades. The Fades is a British supernatural drama television series broadcast on BBC Three and BBC HD. The first of six episodes aired on 21 September 2011. In the series, an English teenager named Paul has nightmares and seems to see dead spirits, or "Fades". So far so good.
Anybody tuning in to Terra Nova? Humans head back 85 million years due to deteriorating environmental conditions in 2149 in order to "get it right." 85 million years ago comes action packed with Dino's, teens with abandonment issues and Sylvester Stallone meets Daniel Craig as the lead. I give the 85 minute (see what they did there?) first episode a solid to above average "Meh." I dig the effects, the main character's story is interesting, but the show is constantly one angsty teen frown away from being a family problemfest rather than a cool look at humans trying to cut it 85 million years ago. Also, what gives with the guns? As usual, humans have the tech to make mindbending travel/planet destruction possible, but we can't take down a Dinosaur? I'll tune in for a few, mainly because I'm a sucker for historical/technological CGI. Final Words: Unless Steven Spielberg did more than just open his checkbook, 7/10 is the best this is going to get.
Not sure if these have already been recommended but Strikeback: Project Dawn is fucking amazing. Its a bit like 24, except with a hell of a lot more violence, bad language, gratuitous sex scenes and all the naughty things us TiBbers love. Definitely worth checking out. And if it hasn't already been mentioned, Luther is worth getting. It's got Idris Elba in it as a psychologically damaged Detective who doesn't play by the rules. Cliche I know but its a bit like if House was black and even angrier. Sirens is a comedy/drama revolving around a group of paramedics. For an hour long show it maintains the funny quite well. Kayvan Novak (Waj from 4 Lions) is consistently hilarious. Fresh Meat is a relatively new show from the creators of Peep Show and follows a group of students who share a house. It's still in its infancy but so far shows potential to be quite good.
I'll strongly endorse this. They are currently on their 2nd season, and there's a ton of violence, nudity (naked chicks being eaten out in a soft-porn kind of way, lots of tits and ass, etc), and no fear to kill off major characters. It's at the top of my current download/watch list.
Did anybody watch American Horror Story? If the show keeps going like this, it might deserve a thread of it's own. Not sure how long they can sustain it but the pilot was messed up. Seems to be dealing with darkness and scariness on two levels, realistic life issues and supernatural haunted house stuff. Dark, twisted and surreal and I kind of liked it. I like the cast too.
I've only seen episodes when they come up on the On Demand for Comcast, but Todd and the Book of Pure Evil is pretty awesome so far. It's like an R rated, comedy, stoner version of Buffy. The idea of the show is that a group of high school kids are trying to find a book of pure evil that turns the wishes of the students into some of the most fucked up plot lines I've seen in a "teen comedy drama" One episode features a bully who is exposed for having a small penis and he wishes for a bigger one. His dick turns into a giant dick monster who turns people into stone if they look at it. There is almost a 3 minute scene where the main character is fighting a giant dick while bantering back and forth about the virtues of small vs big. I'd highly recommend it.
Started watching AHS thanks to the thread and it is pretty scary brilliant. I know they have like 80 years to play with on the plot but i just don't see the sutainability past one season. Still though, trying to solve the terrible puzzles is pretty entertaining (albeit disturbing). Spoiler Unless they get renewed and just end the season with everyone dead and start a new season with new charactors or a different location/house/plot. Violet is the only one left alive.
Has anyone been watching Hell On Wheels? It comes on right after Walking Dead. It seems to be a decent show so far.
Don't know if I really recommend it but if you want to see why the marijuana legalization has been so ineffective in california watch Weed Wars on Discovery. If these clowns are the ones making the legal push, no wonder it never goes anywhere. The co owner is named Dress because he wears women's dresses but isn't a transvestite or LGBT, he just thinks they're comfy mmaaaaaayyynn. Also what loophole do these people get through to claim it relieves all the ailments they claim? How does the FDA not ground these people into dust?
A few picks from the UK Sherlock has started airing its run of 3 shows. The first one has just been on and it is perfect. If you loved the first season, you'll love this. If you haven't watched the first season, slap yourself in the face and watch them now. You won't be disappointed. Black Mirror is a collection of 3 dramas all focused around the impact of technology in our lives. Suspenseful, satirical and hugely compelling. I really can't recommend them enough.
Have to say Storage Wars has really sucked me in. Every time it's on I watch it. Less history provided than Pawn Stars but far far less scripted dumbness. The main buyers all have different and fun but not over the top nuttiness like a lot of these by the number reality shows. It's funny they bid each other up they really kill their profit margins and I have a hard time believing they make any money. One dude always seems to spot oddities be bid to the moon by other people and still find a gem. Fun show.
YUUUUUUUP! Barry, the eccentric collector, is great and I like Brandi's boobs (not counting the one she's married to). Darrell's a complete jackass and Dave's just plain annoying. Somehow, that's good chemistry.
I'm failing at google. Anyone know where I can Torrent 'Storage Wars'? I have a friend who runs a storage center place who'd love it - but I can't find a decent download.
Best I can find is on individual eps on Kick Ass torrents. I just DVR it. They also have a Texas version I have yet to see. Next up Cajun Pawn Stars Storage Waring in New Orleans. For anyone that's interested the first episode of Luck has been online as it was previewed back in December on demand. Luck is David Milch's, of Deadwood fame, new series about horse racing staring Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte, and a slew of others. First episode was directed by Michael Mann. It was intriguing and looks like it has potential but I don't think it was as strong a start as the cast and creators would made you think. The soundtrack seemed odd as it would randomly start playing eclectic songs at weird points. I have high hopes that it becomes a hit and they green light Milch's Deadwood movies.... Please god please.
