Last two episodes have been really solid. Yeah Elich Bachman is hilarious. The whole weed in the garage thing was pretty good. I'm glad the Richard character took a bit of a backseat in this one to let the other ones grow.
This show is really starting to find it's legs. The overall story is interesting enough, and all the side characters are getting funnier and funnier. The highlight for me so far has been the Bertram/Dinesh relationship. This episode I was loving how depressed Dinesh got about being competitive. I'm starting to really look forward to watching this every week.
This show is really improving and I'm really enjoying it, but I can't help but feel like they're missing some opportunities. I agree with some of the above comments that the main character is a bit too awkward. I think he's a really accurate portrayal of the super awkward early Mark Zuckerburg interviews (the physical resemblance helps as well), but I don't think he's very funny. I can't think of any scenes so far, where he has really made me laugh. I'd say the actors who play both Big Head and Jarred are doing a better job of being really socially awkward whilst also being humorous and endearing/relatable. I think a large part of the reason the last episode was so good was because the main character took a bit of a backseat. Having Gilfoyle compete with Dinesh was great, those actors have such a good deadpan style of humour. It brings the show back down to earth, especially when the episode's main plot-line focused on a mural of Erlich banging the Statue of Liberty. Also, I get from a script perspective why they had Big Head join Hooli. They want to continue to show us the Nucleus threat and parody the Google culture, but it's a shame that it means we get so little time with the Big Head character. He was in the last two episodes for only a couple of minutes and both scenes were a bit shoe-horned in.
I though this episode was probably one of the funniest joke wise. The scene with Erlich in a bathrobe bitch slapping that little kid was outrageously funny. I loved that he threatened to kill his mother and rape his dad. Dinesh's pros and cons list for having sex with Gilfoyle's girlfriend was great, the con of "Possible Gilfoyle STD" had me cracking up. The single pro of "ejaculation" was brilliant. The self-driving car thing with Jarred was a bit over the top at first, but it was really worth it for that last reveal of the island entirely built by self running machines. Another continuation of the show's theme of parodying how our supposedly great and life-changing technology is constantly screwing up (thinking of last episode with the various communications systems to Gavin Belson constantly dropping out). My main criticism is that the central plot with the cloud genius kid didn't really go anywhere. It was just a manufactured drama of him screwing up the system and then it being resolved by the episode's end. Also it was a bit lame that they introduced a new female character whose only role was as eye candy. There's a lot of potential humour for these awkward guys to be interacting with well developed female characters.
Theres been a lot of criticism that the show lacks any real female characters that arent on the fringes of the show. But then again, Silicon Valley is basically 96% men, so Id say its much better than just throwing in some unrealistically good looking programmer chick the way that a regular network would. This last episode does acknowledge that somewhat by having Richard's ex show up and throw in another curveball. I would had to see this show kowtow to the Diversity Nazis. The Guilfoyle-Dinesh relationship is awesome. The comedic timing and dynamics between those two are really starting stand out on their own.
Dinesh is my favorite character. He's hysterical and his dead-pan delivery and looks are tremendous. That interaction with the blond took a completely different turn than I thought it was going to as I figured it was going to involve stealing secrets or code or something, especially when they were both asked for Java help. The Cloud Atlas joke was fantastic as well.
The end was hilarious, actually, the whole episode was. Glad to see this show has found its timing, I really think it could be great. Ehrlich just kills every scene he's in, the whole 'bar tab' thing was subtle, but had me in tears.
Yeah, they did a great job this episode of making fun of how few women there are in SV and humorously acknowledging the show's lack of women. Agreed that throwing in unrealistic female characters wouldn't be an improvement, but Gilfoyle's gf in last week's episode just seemed a bit absurd. Why was she walking around a bunch of awkward programmers in a hot nightie? I wonder if we'll ever even see her again? This episode was another good one. As everyone has been saying Dinesh and Gilfoyle are just too funny. The idea that Dinesh is sexually attracted to Guilfoyle's code was great. The shock of the crash tackle ending was also really funny. I'm excited for the Nucleus/Pide Piper show down in the finale.
Hooker and Angel are the only two females I have ever personally met on the Internet. So, yes. Spoiler I keed. Bees, You think her wearing a babydoll in front of them is weird, and not the hilarious Church Of Satan segment?! "Who the FUCK are these people? What the FUCK are we doing here?"
Personally, I think they played the effect of her presence on the guys very well. Their strained awkwardness and inability to focus or avert their eyes was pitch perfect. And the Dinesh Guilfoyle relationship gets better every episode.
She also played a supporting role in a few episodes of House of Lies. She's slowly starting to pick up some speed. Hopefully she can make up for that horrible commercial with Grant Hill.
The season finale took the dick joke to a height, length, and girth that will most likely never be surpassed. Apparently Mike Judge even checked with Stanford engineers to make sure the math was right.
Wow that dick joke was inspired. The deadpan way that everyone approached solving the question of how many dudes Erlich could jerk off in 10 minutes was amazing. I really enjoyed this finale and can't wait for the next season. The only thing that seemed a bit weird to me was Monica wanting to go on a date with Richard. I just haven't noticed any chemistry between those characters at all.
They nailed the last scene. Richard puking into the trash when faced with his future is probably how most of us would react. Be careful what you wish for.
That was the funniest thing ever involving math. Deadpan dead-perfect. Urlich is such an awesome character, completely fearless and ruthless. Loved him horrifying the reporter. It was great to have a solid new adult comedy series again. I think it's the best thing Mike Judge has ever done.
That dick joke was the most accurate representation of what it's like for nerds to hang out. Well done, Judge.
