This might be because we have no clear culprit and no one who's taken responsibility for the attacks yet, but I feel that since 9/11 the American collective psyche seems to have taken a giant step forwards in terms of maturity. There's shock and disgust, certainly, and a minimum of political posturing by the usual cunt demagogues, but compare it to what happened in the wake of the World Trade Center attacks. The sabre-rattling alone after that probably caused earthquakes in neighbouring countries. I feel that it's a lot less "kill them all" than it is "we will endure", this time around, if that makes sense. Stoicism beats posturing any day of the week, in my book.

About 6 weeks after 9/11 during the whole anthrax scare, I was on vacation with my sister and I ended up having to go buy tampons for her at a small mini-mart. As I was paying, instead of doing what most normal clerks do--ignore it--he decided to tell me how the local DJs were prank calling people. Apparently they were calling random people asking if they heard what happened down at the local post office, "Did you hear, yeah, they were infected with Tampax. Get it?" The get it afterwards killed me. Like I couldn't make the connection between anthrax and Tampax. Not at all awkward and thanks for bringing attention to the fact that I'm ONLY buying tampons. Appreciate it. Sorry off focus. On focus: On my facebook this morning there was a post showing one of the medals and this whole story about how this runner didn't get to finish the race and met this guy who did and gave her his medal because "You're a finisher in my eyes." People will believe anything on facebook.

When ever I see a picture in my facebook timeline with the grey text that is half hidden due to length I know some serious Derp is going on.
Unpopular opinion alert: I hope whoever did this was an anti-government small town white guy. Just so there isn't some massive cultural blow back when he gets caught that leads to racial prejudice and profiling. If it is a white guy, national debate goes to mental health, gun control and too much information being available on the internet. On top of that, he'll be circled as a lone wolf and his actions won't be placed upon white people as a whole. If it is a brown person, it goes to "We need to watch all these brownies, they have a history of violent acts and are easily persuaded by terrorists." Or whatever else. They won't get the lone wolf designation. Racial profiling/discrimination will increase, as it already is a problem, and something like this adds fuel to the fire. Case in point with Adam Lanza, there are stories right now about how he was bullied as a kid at Sandy Hook, which lightly pushes the debate towards bullying. No one is asking "Why are all these white people constantly shooting schools up and blowing up buildings? What's up with that? Maybe we should double check them when they walk into schools? Maybe we should double check them at airports?" That will never happen.
Basically. Because every single redneck white dude that lives out in the woods doesn't immediately get circled on a map at FBI headquarters after that. Muslim people are still getting 3-4 glances at airports and they sure as fuck can't tell someone to watch their 3 pieces of luggage so they can run and get a pretzel hot dog around the corner at the airport.

Damn White House press conference going on that just reiterates what we all already know, and it's getting in the way of reporters writing articles I can post about the following three things that have happened in the last hour or so: - officials found several "suspicious" letters around several senate buildings - they then found and detained a suspect who was acting weird, not really answering their questions, and had a backpack pull of suspicious letters he was apparently trying to deliver... Building is basically on lockdown - CNN now reporting that there have been recent "significant" developments in the criminal investigation of the Boston bomber case ... I'll post links to all once I get them **edit**law enforcement saying "significant developments" -- that's all I got right now. Sounds like either an eye-witness or a major clue as to who possibly did it.
