Here's my work buddy who's relativey new to stand up, so enjoy if you like amatuer stuff. And no, I don't work at a call centre. Old joke I guess.
Anyone catch the CC 1 hour special "Godfrey: Accidentally Black?" He actually dated the choir director of the church I went to as a kid growing up. He of course dumped her and moved to New York. His transitions are painful to watch, I feel like he holds onto topics too long when not telling a story, and there is a lot of "you know what I'm saying." The jokes he hits, he hits well. He can do a variety of different voices, can do great facial expressions and cover all sorts of topics. You can watch parts of his comedy here. http://comedians.jokes.com/godfrey. I'd like YouTube but CC only has 1 video up of this special.
Whenever I think this board has gotten so circular we might as well dispose of the pretense and spend our days massaging eachothers prostates, something like this or the anime thread happens. That was fucking awesome Celos.
I found out today that Patrice O'neal had a stroke sometime last week. You may have seen him on the Charlie Sheen roast. From TMZ: 'O'Neal's pal Jim Norton made the announcement on the air this morning ... adding, "We wanted it to come from us ... we don’t know how he is. We don’t know how he’s going to be."' I hope he's alright. I don't know if anyone is a fan but if you are there's an email set up to send him and his family well wishes. It's loveforpatrice@gmail.com
Celos' post lead me to seek out more from Tim Minchin. Holy hell, the guy is hilarious and super talented.
This is true. Here's another beat poem. Not as brilliant as Storm, but definitely worth a watch: For those of you looking for more, Ready For This is probably the place to start. Some of his earlier stuff has the balance of emotional/sappy to quirky/fun a bit tilted. On the last one he's spot on.
Is there anybody else on this board that performs stand-up? I'm curious if we could turn this into a constructive-criticism/gig hook-up for like-minded members. Would anybody else be interested?
Tim Minchin is hilarious, seen him at Reading Festival 2011 (UK). Never been really into Stand up until recently but he was awesome.
Louis CK's new special is $5 and you can download it over his website. It's definitely worth $5: Louisck.net
https://buy.louisck.net/statement This was pretty cool. I haven't bought it yet, because I don't know if my incredibly slow internet can manage. But, fuck yeah, I'd give Louie C.K. $5.
Seems he's done pretty damn well with it, just 4 days in. At least I tend to consider $500k gross "pretty well", don't you? Net profit so far is about $200k, after what he paid to make it, PayPal charges, etc. This is 4 days in. Kudos Mr. CK... good on you. https://buy.louisck.net/statement
All I can say is I'm really fucking happy to see people like Louis CK and Adam Carolla really embrace new technology and take a chance and tell the monolithic and stupid institutions that would normally control all this stuff to fuck right off.
Agreed, it's been fascinating the last couple of years watching comedians work around the system to get content into people's hands in the non-typical manner (or to reach people that never would have heard their material otherwise). For instance, tv host/comedian Chris Hardwick started The Nerdist podcast because a TV pilot didn't get picked up. He parlayed that into a burgeoning podcast empire, a book, the Nerdist TV show, and a comedy tour with Jonah and Matt from the podcast.
